Gimme Shooz, A pecialist Shoe Shop in Billericay.

Having your childs' feet measured can prevent long term damage and here's some things to
look out for.

What should I do if my child Pronates?
First off, remember that some pronation is normal. A toddler’s body is always growing and
changing. A slight ankle roll while standing or walking doesn’t mean you need to rush off to
a doctor. What you should keep an eye out for is pronation that is excessive and symptomatic.
This means watch for pain, developmental delays. They’re all symptoms of a bigger issue.

What problems does it cause?
You may see the effects of pronation even before your child
starts walking.
Developmental delays with pulling to stand and cruising are common.
And then there are the clumsy steps. The gait of a toddler who pronate is often Sloppy or
immature compared to other kids the same age. Additionally, your child may be slow to
master gross motor skills such as:

Running. Bending. Jumping. Climbing stairs. Standing on one foot
Pronation can also leave your child exhausted. His or hers muscles work harder due to the
body’s poor positioning. This may be why your child is more
inclined to sit rather than run and play.
Keep in mind that pronation isn’t just a foot problem. Its starts a
chain reaction. That inward ankle roll can cause knees, hips and
back to shift out of alignment. If left untreated, expect pain in all
three area. Aculbertson. “Pronation in Kids - Answers to Questions You're Asking.”

Half Term Fun

Riverside Leisure Centre’s popular ice show returns to the rink this Easter
with a glittering version of Beauty and the Beast.

A cast of more than 50 skaters from Chelmsford Riverside Ice Skating Club will bring their magical
production to the city for the first time since 2018.
Show postponed during pandemic
Beauty and the Beast had been scheduled to run back in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic led to a series
of postponements. With restrictions now eased, the annual ice show makes its comeback this April, with 8
performances across 5 days.
Sarah Smith, the manager of Chelmsford City Council’s leisure centres says it’s great to have this joyful
skating showcase back at Riverside.
“We have really missed the ice show. It’s brilliant fun for families and a key opportunity for talented local
performers to put on a complex production at the rink. We are really pleased that Beauty and the Beast will
finally make it to Riverside after a tough couple of years for our skaters and we can’t wait to see the club in
action again.”
Classic family show on ice
As ever, this classic fairy tale on ice will entertain the whole family, with colourful costumes, catchy songs and
dazzling dance sequences. Show director and choreographers Chloe Gribble says rehearsals are going well.
“The young people who skate with us can’t wait to perform to a live audience again after coming so close two
years ago. The ice show is a highlight in our club calendar, and it gives us an opportunity to show the city what
we can do. We hope our performances might even inspire a new generation of skaters to join us after they’ve
been to one of our shows.”
Tickets on sale now
The run starts with an early evening performance on Wednesday 6 April and concludes with an afternoon
show on Sunday 10 April. There’ll be both matinee and evening shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Tickets for Beauty and the Beast on Ice start at £13 for adults and £10.40 for both under-16s and anyone
eligible for a discounted ticket. Under-2s sitting on laps go free. Visit the ice show web page for more
details: www.chelmsford.gov.uk/iceshow.

The Royal Gunpowder Mills Reopen this Easter with a Bang!

The Royal Gunpowder Mills are re-opening their doors with a bang
On Sunday 17th April. On Easter Sunday and Monday, and each
Sunday and selected bank holiday until the end of October, 300 years
of intrigue and history are ready for the adventurous and curious to
explore.
A short film detailing the story of these historic mills sets the scene,
before visitors become immersed in an exhibition that explains the
site’s intriguing past. And, where else can you find a rocket vault to
explore… Understand what makes a rocket fly, before you create and
launch your very own air powered rocket!
Professor Nitrate’s new and exciting outdoor science show about
gunpowder, explosives and rockets is sure to grab your attention as it
takes centre stage, and don’t forget to pay a visit to the armoury with
its selection of over 300 historic firearms too.
Join a tractor tour around the site to see our iconic press house, the
huge blast walls and the Quinan Drying Stove where scenes from Jude
Law’s series The Third Day and the BBC’s Starstruck comedy series were
filmed. Learn about life at the mills; the people who worked here, and
how the police would search the workers for matches before starting
their shifts, to uphold safety. And, you may even be lucky to spot the
Royal Gunpowder Mill’s herd of fallow deer.
You can also take a ride on the narrow gauge Gunpowder Railway
to explore this site of special scientific interest further, before taking
advantage of the Gunpowder café’s delicious hot drinks and light snacks.
Or, perhaps you will prefer to relax in the grassy Queens Mead to enjoy
your own refreshments from home.
Unmask how the Royal Gunpowder Mills played an essential part in
the UK’s military history, national defense, mining and quarrying; and,
marvel at its renowned status as a top-secret research centre for Cold
War inventions and rocketry.
There really is something for everyone. So, whether you are
looking for a gentle stroll around a unique historic site, need
activities for children that include a playground, or are looking to
learn and understand more about the site’s unrivaled contribution to
science, this is an exciting day out that is not to be missed.

For more information visit www.royalgunpowdermills.com Tickets are £10
per head with £8 concessions for pensioners and under 16s. Ticket price includes:
Introductory film, Main exhibition, Rocket vault visit, Make and launch your own air powered
rocket, Professor Nitrate’s outdoor science show and a choice between a 30-minute Tractor
Tour around the site or a trip on the narrow gauge Gunpowder Railway.
