FROM PRINCIPAL’S DESK

The Department of Printing & Packaging Technology (PPT) with its enthusiastic students and enterprising faculty
have come out with the third volume of the annual magazine 'Adviteeya'. This year, Adviteeya brings forth bytes of
experience and knowldege from the alumni of this department coupled with technical articles and inputs from the
Printing & Packaging Industry.
It is a matter of great pride for SIESGST that the PPT department is celebrating 10 years of existence. This indeed is
an accomplishment in itself because it is the only department in the whole of asia pacific belt offering an industry
oriented 4-year Bachelor of Engineering degree in printing & packaging field since 2005-06. Coupled with
collaborations with the Printing & Packaging Industry, our students are groomed to become dedicated professionals
& posses the required essential background to survive in this highly competitive industry. We look forward to a
positive response & valuable inputs from the industry to take this course a notch up & peg it at top. The graduates of
Printing & Packaging Technology have been well received by the industry and the feedback has been very
encouraging!
Another marquee event planned by the PPT department this year on February 27 is the pan-India Job Fair, which
again, is a first-of-its kind initiative, bringing fresh and experienced printing & packaging graduates face-to-face with
companies/conglomerates from all over India.
This magazine represents the Zest, Creativity and Imagination of our Printing and Packaging students. Adviteeya is
a magazine, truly, second to none! My heartiest wishes to students and the faculty of PPT department.

Dr. Alka Mahajan
Principal,
SIES Graduate School of Technology.

FROM HOD’S DESK

Dear Readers, it gives me an immense pleasure to present the third edition of Adviteeya. The motive of
showcasing unparallel vision through Adviteeya is still the main focus. The Department of Printing & Packaging
Technology is completing its successful tenure of 10 years in providing quality education, hands-on training and
apt industrial exposure to the future players/drivers of the industry. Keeping this in our mind, we thought of
dedicating this magazine to all pass out students and current learners who are a part of this wonderful journey of
growth. This idea was chipped in by Prof. Mrs.Rashmi Bhat and was very well received by everyone. On behalf
of my team I also take an opportunity to earnestly thank her for co-ordinating the Adviteeya magazine this year.
The articles & interviews are contributed by our alumni as well as existing students. They have highlighted their
experience not only during their tenure in our institute but also emphasized how the course has helped them to
make a mark in the ever growing and dynamic Printing & Packaging industry.
I also take this opportunity to thank our paper sponsor Srinivas Papers and Print Sponsor Superlekha Press.
With their support the “vision” comes into existence in a form of a magazine.
Hope the contents are invigorating, informative, illustrious and inciting to all the readers.
Kudos to the entire team of Adviteeya!!! As I always say, “Unparallel contributions & efforts is nothing but –
Adviteeya”

The flexible packaging market in India has grown rapidly over the last three decades and currently accounts for 29% of the
consumer packaging market. Significantly better packaging economics, improved product features, developments in high-
barrier films, multi-color printing and high speed filling lines for reels and pouches are some of the factors that have aided
flexible packaging in gaining a significant share of the consumer packaging market.

More than 87% of the flexible packaging material is in printed form. For printing various technologies such as gravure, flexo
and offset is being used. Major printing in India is still done through gravure cylinders to achieve high resolution graphic
designs in multicolor. Flexible packaging converting industry in India is fragmented with a large number of small & medium
enterprises. Gravure cylinders in various sizes are being used by these enterprises. To reduce design to pack timelines, efforts
are made by various stakeholders including gravure cylinder makers. A fully automatic cylinder production line is becoming a
reality andAcuprint is the first to implement it successfully in India.
