1. Students will be able to identify, define and understand the
three elements of a crime, the act, the intent (and the crimes
that omit the intent) and the concurrence of the two.

2. Apply the elements and be able to distinguish the different
grades of “the intent”, (mens rea); that demonstrates why a
person was or was not charged with a particular crime
according to state and federal penal codes.

Students will locate a newspaper article (In Texas):
1. Intoxication manslaughter
2. Statutory rape
3. Homicide
Read Chapter 3, Inside Criminal Law.
Students will be asked a series of questions that correlate with
chapter 3 readings and identify elements and concepts within their
article.
