ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I would like to give special thanks to my family, friends, peers, and
professors for supporting me throughout my creative career. I want
to start with where it all began. Diane Heath and Eugene Clark ignited
my passion for art and design and paved the way for me to achieve
my dreams of attending art school. I will always have a special place
in my heart for both of them. I would like to acknowledge my senior
thesis professor, Scott Gordley, for guiding me through my senior thesis.
His insight has led me to reach my full potential as an illustrator and
designer. Scott Gordley, along with many of my other professors at
Ringling, have helped me greatly in becoming the successful artist
I am today. I will be forever grateful for the time I spent learning and
attending classes. I would also like to thank my friend and peer, Maddy
McElwee, for assisting me with my designs and giving graphic design
expertise to my book design and layout. I would like to give another
thank you to Matthew Morgan for helping to create the exterior store
design of Freesia in Sketch Up. Finally, I would like to thank my family
and friends for continuously supporting me through life and alongside
my creative career. I am truly thankful for their endless positivity
and love. My parents have always supported me in many ways and
I don’t know how to thank them enough for their guidance and advice.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Artists have an incredible ability to see the world through their own
lenses and create a piece of artwork that displays a new form of
beauty. I value this talent in myself as I am able to bring elements of
my life into personal works of art that people can appreciate and
connect with. I incorporate vibrant shape language and elements
from nature to create warm and inviting themes in my work. I focus on
developing fresh designs that are both beautiful and visually exciting.
When creating my art, I draw inspiration from everyday life. I love
spending time with family and pets and immersing myself in nature.
I incorporate all of these elements into my work to bring a sense of
happiness to my audience. When creating pattern designs, I draw from
elements of nature and include the joy those elements represent for me.
In some of my most recent work, I brought the whimsical feeling
I experience when I see dragonflies into my pattern. I made the shapes
free and random, with sparkles of light. The designs of the dragonflies
are imaginary and loosely based on life. I always strive to create a
new take on classic elements. I work digitally in Adobe Photoshop
and Illustrator. There are endless possibilities with digital artwork and
I like to challenge myself to incorporate what I have learned
traditionally and translate that digitally. I work diligently to create
a level of sophistication and beauty in my work through powerful
linework and muted complementary colors. My current thesis project
incorporates all of the elements of my personal work in the creation
of cards, patterns, and graphic designs in celebration of the joy
and beauty of life.

Freesia’s storefront draws inspiration from European cafes that implement distressed brick and
comfortable outdoor seating to provide customers with a wonderful place to enjoy fresh air and
coffee. Large arched windows allow natural light into the store while creating a facade for ivy

FROM CONCEPT TO FINAL DESIGN
When creating my work, I follow a series of steps that help me to design successful
illustrations. I start my creative process by sketching small thumbnails of ideas.
To generate more ideas, I like to write lists of inspiring words and implement mind
mapping. Next, I research and look for imagery to use as a reference for completing
my final sketch and finished work. I use Adobe Photoshop for linework, value studies
and color studies. After I decide which color study works best for the design, I
block in the colors of major elements. For this step, I either use Adobe Photoshop
or Adobe Illustrator depending on the style I desire for the finished product. After
critiques from my peers and professors, I add more contrast to my design and
tweak any other elements that will make the final piece the best it can possibly be.
