Artist statement

Hey. I am Khoo Chyuan Shing, the
illustrator of this storybook.

The purpose of creating this story
book is to instill environmental
protection awareness in children
while they are still young.

Hope they can stay kind to our earth
and protect our environment so the
beautiful creatures in this world
can live happiness in their habitat.

Otherwise, they will only become a
‘myth’ that we heard before.

I dedicate this book to all the
innocent and kind children who
love the ocean and the nature.

Once upon a time, mermaids and
pirates lived together in harmony.

1 There was only peace between them.

Untill one fateful day, a mermaid
was captured by a pirate. The intention
of this capture was to sell the mermaid
to a wealthy businessman. However, the
mermaid manage to escape.

Eventually, the escape of the mermaid
had caused the pirate to lose his
opportunity to close a business
deal with the businessman.
The pirate was angry about it
and wanted to seek vengeance
by destroying Atlantis, the
home of mermaids.

The mermaids then opened up the
package, freeing the elves that
was trapped inside.

The elves polluted the ocean by
creating wastes, causing the
mermaids to lose their home.

However, the mermaids were furious

6to see their beloved home destroyed.

Believing in an eye for an
eye, the mermaids casted
a tsunami upon the island

7 that the pirates lived on.

After suffering great damages 8
from tsunami, the pirates were
finally able to understand how the
mermaids felt when their home was
destroyed.

The pirates had begun to regret
their awful actions.

The pirates wanted to apologise to
the mermaids for their wrongdoing,
but the marmaids were no longer
staying in Atlantis.
Sadly, Antlantis was no longer
habitable for the marmaids as the
pollution cused by the elves were
very serious.

Realising how selfish their action
were,the pirates were determined to
make up for their mistakes.
They started to clean up the wastes
that were polluting the ocean.

The pirates hoped that the ocean
could one day become clean again
so that the mermaids could come
back to their home.

And then, they might have the
chance to sincerely apologise

11 to the marmaids face to face.



Once upon a time, the mermaids
and the pirates live peacefully.
The peace between them was broken
by pirate's selfishness.This caused
the mermaid to lose their home and
started to revenge.....
