Dear Kinetic Kids Family, TRACEY FONTENOT & KACEY WERNLI

Kinetic Kids changes lives for the better. We Our goal has always been to see the child

our love of sports. Tracey grew up on the soccer fields only possible through the generosity of our donors,
while Kacey hit the tennis courts. We both appreciate participants, sponsors, foundations, corporations,

Physical therapy brought us together in 2001.
Working at Methodist Children’s Hospital, we saw Sincerely,

Belonging to a team, making friends, and having the 2
chance to be “in the game” builds confidence and
inspires joy in athletes and their families.

As Kinetic Kids has grown, so have our goals. Our
first baseball team in 2001 gave just one group of
children with special needs the opportunity to step up
to the plate. But then they wanted to score goals. Run
faster. Cheer louder. Swim longer. So as our Kinetic
Kids’ dreams grew, so did the need for competitive
programming! In addition to our recreational
programs, we now offer two competitive divisions that
compete in a variety of sports across our city, state
and country.

morning featured timed races, the Spurs’ Coyote, a llama petting
zoo, face painting and interactive games.

These kids Her older brother, Saul, had spina bifida. His
condition confined him to a wheelchair, but
grab your heart! Sabrina does not remember him complaining
about his disability or his wheelchair, “To him
— Sabrina Ponce, Program Director that was just an accessory, and he didn’t
let anything keep him from radiating love
and joy.” So, when she needed a 400-hour
internship to complete her undergraduate
degree, Sabrina knew Kinetic Kids was the
best fit for her, even though it meant moving
from Corpus Christi to San Antonio.

The internship was a great experience,
until it ended. Sabrina simply didn’t want
to leave Kinetic Kids: “Once you start, you
can’t continue without them. These kids
grab your heart.” So, she transferred schools
and volunteered while completing her
occupational therapy degree.

Nearly 13 years after her brother’s passing,
Sabrina remains committed to the special
needs community and to Kinetic Kids where
she now serves as a program director. “This
is somewhere the kids can be independent
and successful in sports they’re interested in,”
said Sabrina. “My favorite part is the kids, but
I love looking back at the parents because
their faces say it all, too. Some are teary eyed,
others are smiling with such joy in their face
because they didn’t think it was possible. It’s a
sweet reminder what Kinetic Kids is about.”

Equipment, Service & Resource Fair for Children with Special Needs

Families of children with special needs in the San
Antonio area can discover an extensive range of
adaptive devices, accessories and support services at
our Kinetic Kids EXPO. A free community event, the
2019 event featured more than 70 local and national
resources and drew almost 800 attendees who spent
the day visiting vendor booths, participating in
adapted sports and having fun in the kid zone!
