A PL ATINUM CLUB

Ron Peterson FROM THE PRESIDENT

President, As we wind down from the holiday season, I hope you were all able to enjoy quality time
with family and friends and did so in good health.
Board of Governors
As I reflect on the extraordinary 60th Anniversary Year, I am reminded of the attributes
that make The Center Club so very special, many of which were epitomized so vividly at
the November 12th Gala. The sold out event was attended by 315 individuals from different
racial, religious and political backgrounds. Members of all ages, and their guests, enjoyed
a unique experience. The level of excellence in service, ambience, food and beverage
offerings and entertainment would be nearly impossible to replicate anywhere in the
region. As guests arrived they were greeted by an electronic violinist in the parking garage.
Formal photo ops were offered on the winding staircase. The business center was decked
out with a whiskey bar within a speakeasy! The The Dr. Martin D. Jenkins Wine Room was
flowing with wine tasting opportunities. Food stations were strategically placed throughout
the two floors and never ran out of sumptuous offerings. The main bar as well as the 16th
Floor bar poured an endless variety of adult beverages. Live jazz was available on 15 and a
dance band played all night long on 16! What an extraordinary event! The Gala was without
a doubt the pinnacle of the 60th Anniversary Year. If you were not one of the fortunate
attendees, I hope you had the opportunity to partake in at least one of the other special
events offered throughout the anniversary year.

On behalf of the Board of Governors and the entire membership, I commend General
Manager Kevin Bonner and his entire team for maintaining such a high level of excellence
throughout the anniversary year when so many unique events were provided for the
benefit of our members. Thank you to the entire team!

And speaking of excellence, you should know that once we got past the Omicron phase
of the pandemic in February of 2022, we began to see a major upturn in the number of
special banquets and weddings held at the Club. The combination of beautifully renovated
facilities, superb service, world-class food and beverage offerings, safe and convenient
parking, and the best views in the city now makes The Center Club the “go to” place for
special events. As a practical matter, this has been very good news for Club revenues.
In addition, we have had the good fortune to see stabilization in our membership in 2022,
with a particularly low rate of membership attrition. Early renewals of membership this past
October were also at an all-time high.

To accommodate the return to these higher levels of activity, the Club has done very well
recruiting new employees. In fact, The Center Club appears to be increasingly recognized
as a preferred place to work within the region’s hospitality industry.

All of this good news means that as we look at the preliminary year-end financials,
we can report that your Center Club enjoys very sound financial health.

As we all look forward to the new year, I extend to each of you my very best wishes
for a healthy and prosperous 2023. Please take advantage of the many new programs
and experiences the Club has to offer. Also, do not hesitate to bring to our attention any
prospects you may have in mind for membership.

I hope to see you in person at The Center Club in 2023.

WELCOME BACK
HEALTHCARE CONNECTIONS,

VETERANS INITIATIVE
& CRAFT BEER CLUB

We are thrilled to bring back these three Interests Groups for our members to enjoy
and participate in even more topics and experiences.

Healthcare Connections, chaired by Jeff Rosen
and Robert Wells, returned in October with a panel
discussing Health Equity. It was an engaging discussion
and we are looking forward to periodic events from
this group.

Veterans Initiative, chaired by Sam Kimzey, will hold
unique, monthly events. This Interest Group is about
bringing the unique perspectives of military veterans
to The Center Club. The Initiative is a forum to discuss
a range of topics such as current events, the intersection
of industry, innovation, and the modern military, projects,
and history with veteran speakers, authors
and businesspeople.
Join this group on Wednesday, January 4 for an informal
mixer to get to know one another. You need not be a
veteran to join this Interest Group. See page 6 and 8 for
details on the first two events and register in advance.

Craft Beer Club, chaired by Erik Moore and Buzz
Scheffenacker, makes its return debut on Thursday,
January 19. With quarterly events, this Interest Group, will
provide tastings with educational components on just
some of the various beers available. Their first event will
feature a guest brewer from Guilford Hall Brewery.
All are welcome, for more information, see page 7
and register in advance.
