THE LEGEND OF THE SNOWBUTTERFLIES

Once upon a time there was a village that had never
known snow.
As every year, the dinner was a long one.
Laughter and glass clinked filled the room, as the
children gathered to play off-ground tag in the village
square. “Look! Look!” suddenly said one of them,
pointing a finger above their heads. Looking up, they
all stopped sharply in their tracks: a twinkling cluster
of lights swirled in the sky in the middle of the stars.
With golden wings, a flight of a thousand of butterflies
emerged. Hearing the children’s shouting, all the
villagers soon rushed to the square to witness the
spectacle. “I recognize this light: it is the light of the
butterflies that bring the snow,” said one of the elders
to the amazed assembly.
The whole village cried out: “Bring us the snow!”.
The dawn was greeted with cries of joy. White as far
as the eye could see. The ground, the sky, the trees
and even the roofs of the houses, as if topped with
a thick layer of powdered sugar.
Everyone was going to spread the good news: today
was the most beautiful Christmas of all time.
