Mata Virtual Learning Journey Experience – 2020
The virtual learning experience has not only been exciting but memorable. We had to move
from a blended environment to a virtual environment without any notice. I began this journey
by reminding you of what we had already accomplished as it relates to technology. Digital
learning has always been a focus at Mata. Prior to the pandemic, our focus was creating
podcasts and using videoconferences apps. These tools were very useful in the virtual
learning experience.
This experience required all of us to come out of our comfort zone. New digital tools were
introduced, and we had to create engaging activities for students and sta . For most of us, our
workday for the virtual learning experience was longer than our normal workdays. There was
no handbook to follow for our virtual teaching.
The unknown can be scary. But, I approached this experience with an air of con dence that
we already had the skills to succeed from our technology PLCs at Mata, and I also began to
re ect on my own personal and professional experiences. I needed to be digitally strong for
us to be successful. I begin to tell myself that I was prepared for this experience, and it was
my job to empower the sta and students with digital tools and resources to allow them to be
successful.
Thanks to the ILT and Admin sta for their support. Not only did they host video conferencing
meetings, but they assisted with the training, created videos, and provided wonderful teaching
resources. Thanks to all of you for being team players. We were all able to learn and
celebrate many achievements in our virtual world because we were willing to share and
collaborate our ideas with one another.
What a success it was! The students and sta at Mata have done an AMAZING JOB! We got an
opportunity to explore some very powerful applications like WeVideo and Storyboard That,
etc.! We have embraced digital tools in a new way. Our digital toolbox is loaded with new
tools, and the best is yet to come.
Please take the time to review and explore the software applications and tasks that were
completed. I’m sure you will use the tools you’ve acquired to make your blended classrooms
even more engaging. Have a great summer!
