Akiva is a former paratrooper and veteran of the Israel
Defense Forces. He earned his Bachelor of Science from the
LeBow College of Business at Drexel University. Akiva works in
commercial real estate at MSC Retail.

More than 150 Holocaust survivors from the Greater Philadelphia area attend-
ed the Jewish Family and Children’s Service (JFCS) event, Café Europa, in
recognition of the Day of Liberation, the ending of Hitler’s Third Reich. Café
Europa is an annual tradition in which agencies host luncheons, dances, talks
and community events for Holocaust survivors to meet over a meal and form
a community.

Judith Creed Horizons for Achieving Independence (JCHAI) held its annual
spring gala at the National Constitution Center on May 10 to raise money and
support adults with disabilities. JCHAI programs are designed to provide adults
with disabilities the skills needed to become productive contributing members of
Philadelphia’s economy.

volunteers who dedicated 50,000 hours to 95 area nonprofit agencies.

The Etz Chaim Center for Jewish Studies will hold its anniversary gala on June 12 at the
National Museum of American Jewish History. Joshua Landes, son of the late Beth Sholom
Congregation Rabbi Aaron Landes, will be one of the award recipients, receiving the Ohev
Yisrael award. Other honorees include Dov Simons, who is receiving an award for being an
ambassador of Jewish education, while Melanie Lieberman and Beth Rivkind will receive
the Aishet Chayil awards.
