MARANATHA CHRISTIAN ASSEMBLY’S STANDARD
OPERATION PROCEDURE FOR WORSHIP
CCLI – Christian Copyright Licensing International
About CCLI
CCLI believe that the power of the song has become one of the essential aspects of inspiring worship
and Christian artist all round the world has blessed the church with God-centered songs that helps
worshipers look up to God. However, their songs are copyrighted to prevent infringement of used
hence the need of licensing of use becomes inevitable to protect and honour the artist, labels and
studios who created the songs by ensuring fair use and fair compensation.
CCLI understand the legal complication of playing songs in public places such as church premise,
crowd gatherings and social media, they have step up to become an administrative provider to help
church simplify the costly and confusing legal process of copywrite use to both the user and the
artist.
How does copyright affect the church?
Churches and Christian organisations increasingly use technology to create, distribute or display
songs, service sheets and content. Copyright owners should be fairly compensated for the use of
their works.
Regardless of region or whether it is an economic, moral, philosophical, or simply administrative
objective, CCLI helps you honour copyright law and the creative people who author these valuable
works.

5. Worship Leaders
a. Showing YouTube Videos in Church
i. You can we show YouTube videos in our church service such as movie clips, lyric
videos, latest viral sensation, etc. only with prior permission
ii. The written policy from YouTube’s terms of service specifies that content on the
site should only be accessed for “personal, non-commercial use” (5.L.) except
where “YouTube or the respective licensors [the copyright owner] of the
content” has given “prior written consent” (5.M.).
For more information, read Showing YouTube Videos In Church.

b. Streaming Church Services on Social Media
i. CCLI added the Streaming License as a supplement to our Copyright License. It is
primarily intended to cover the live service webcasts on your church’s website;
however it also covers third-party social media platforms, like YouTube and
Facebook.
ii. There may be issues to sort through, however, if you use these platforms. As
part of YouTube’s video upload process, they will ask whether your video
includes copyrighted content that you don’t own. Typically, for church services
that include music, the answer is yes. YouTube will then mandate that your
video includes advertising, and the rightful copyright owner(s) will receive a
share of that ad revenue.
iii. Facebook’s algorithms and search bots are particularly vigilant at identifying and
removing videos with potential copyright violations. In the case of church
services, Facebook does not initially account for videos that are covered by our
Streaming License. So it may require correspondence with their support team to
resolve.
