take-away point from this is evident: clear
communication of a vision precedes vigorous
implementation of a vision.
♦ IMPLEMENTATION PRODUCES RESULTS
After a strategic vision has been effectively
communicated, action must be taken to make it
happen. A successful multi-stakeholder strategic
planning process will identify a path forward to
achieve the vision and deliver its intended results.
The same collaborative approach employed
to create the vision should also be utilized to
implement it.
A nice vision designed by a diverse team of
people means nothing without action behind
it. Look no further than professional sports for
an illustration. A soccer, basketball, or baseball
team with talented players can have a vision to
win a world championship. However, consistent
action is needed to work game plans, nail down
victories, and come out on top. Results matter.
James, author of a Biblical New Testament
book named after him, underscored this
dynamic when he penned the following verse
in the second chapter: “Even so faith, if it hath
not works, is dead, being alone.” The best
collaborative strategic vision a company or
community can have is worthless without taking
action to implement it and yield results.

In Flint, the driving issue two decades ago was youth violence. Community

→ CULTURAL DIVERSITY. AND INCLUSION.
Proliferated by the pandemic, the rise of globalism and technology
has created an incredibly lucrative investment opportunity. In cultural
training. Cultural understanding and synergy are no longer nice-to-
haves. They are necessary. They are competitive advantages.
Diversity and Inclusion. These are big buzz words in the industry right
now. And they should be as they are very important in today’s times.
Many large companies are hiring for diversity in race and gender,
amongst several other categories. But why, so often, is culture left
out of the equation? Should it be? Definitely not. And here’s why.
The word “diversity” carries a connotation of variety. It pertains not just
to race, gender, religion and so on, but to other areas less focused
on such as age and experience as well. If we want to have a truly
diverse organization, we must make sure to be diverse not only in
one of these arenas, but in all of them.
And diversity pertains to culture too. Cultural diversity is just as
important, if not more so than diversity in the other categories. Why?
Teams with higher cultural diversity have been shown to produce
extraordinary results. This is because culturally diverse teams have
the power of drawing upon a variety of perspectives and problem-
solving approaches. Which leads to more creative and effective
solutions to problems.
46. FDI ALLIANCE INTERNATIONAL
When the culture of each member of a team and/or organization is
understood and respected, these differences transform from barriers
to synergistic catalysts.
Many organizations have made great strides to hire and retain diverse
talent. But that alone doesn’t mean these organizations are inclusive.
Diversity is an excellent start, but inclusion is what is really needed to
move organizations to the next level.
At present, we mostly see diversity WITHOUT inclusion. Many
organizations employ members from various groups, yet many of
those powerful voices are never heard. We are on the brink of an
extraordinary change as organizations become aware of this major
problem, and look for solutions to fix it.
So how can organizations become more inclusive?
In order to be truly inclusive, an organization must listen to and factor
in the thoughts, opinions, and solutions of all of the diverse people,
on all levels, whom they employ. This can be as simple as asking for
feedback in a meeting, to having a dedicated process set up where
all employees can provide input. And then those thoughts must be
considered and applied to the decision-making process.
As organizations become aware of the dire need to better understand
and utilize cultural diversity as a competitive advantage to both survive
and thrive, we will see a rise in inclusion as well.

ABOUT THE CRDC
Our region is one of the largest per capita manufacturing centers in the United States.
Centrally located in the Midwest along the Mississippi River, dozens of manufacturing
companies have chosen this area for access to three Class-1 Railroads (UP, CP and BNSF),
several interstate trucking routes and local barge operations. Clinton County is home to
Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), LyondellBasell, Nestle Purina Pet Care, Custom-Pak,
West Rock, Guardian Glass and many others. Three business parks currently have land
available and all of them are located in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts.
Clinton County also has two federal Opportunity Zones, which offer
