6 6 Message from the Dean Through this report, I would like to share all the success that IMK has achieved in 2018. In research part, IMK offers a lot of research opportunities such as in engineering mathematics field, statistics, theoretical physics, numerical analysis, applied mathematics, operations research etc . Through research activities, IMK also succeeded in producing high quality research publication and thus helping UniMAP to achieve a key performance index set by the Ministry of Education. In addition, IMK has been involved in various community programmes through consultations and organising some activities or seminars in local and international levels. Several partnerships and close relationships with internal and external departments or agencies can be enhanced through this activities. Hopefully further excellent achievement will be realized in the following year. Since the establishing of the Institute of Mathematical Engineering (IMK) in 2007, the IMK has progressed brightly further to this date. IMK initially is the centre that offers mathematical courses on engineering degree programmes. Then, it was followed by offering of mathematical courses for business and engineering technology programmes. Apart from offering service courses, IMK also offers their own programmes at postgraduate levels specifically MSc and PhD (Research) as well as MSc (Engineering Mathematics) Mixed Mode.

The purpose of this report is to provide information and achievements obtained by the Institute of Engineering Mathematics in 2019. 8 8 1.0 INTRODUCTION Institute of Engineering Mathematics (IMK) is a centre for planning and monitoring the curriculum of Mathematics and Statistics to all engineering, engineering technology and business programmes in UniMAP. It undertakes exemplary teaching and research across a number of disciplines. Each discipline explores opportunities to support and enhance our subjects, providing exciting interdisciplinary research and innovative approaches to teaching. Our areas of expertise cover Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematical Physics, Simulation and Operational Research. Our scientists are active in internationally recognised research across the disciplines, advancing knowledge in the established fields, alongside novel developments in emerging areas such as fuzzy modeling, computational intelligence applications, computational fluid dynamics and multi-characteristics quality control. 1.1 Mission, Vision and Objectives Mission Leading efforts and commitment in teaching, research and consultation in Engineering Mathematics in Malaysia Vision Excellence in teaching, research and consultation in Engineering Mathematic Objectives Planning and monitoring the curriculum of Mathematics and Statistics to all engineering, engineering technology and business programs in UniMAP. Offering high standard academic programs at Masters and PhD levels. Be a center of engineering mathematics that focuses on the development and use of mathematical and statistical approaches to solve engineering, engineering technology and business problems. As a reference center that provides expertise in the field of mathematics, statistics, theoretical physics and related software. Conducting training programs for the campus community and outside UniMAP in related fields.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) A Master's degree in Mathematics / Engineering / Science / Computer Science/ Engineering Technology from any institution of higher learning recognized by the University Senate or any other equivalent qualification to Master's degree recognized by the University Senate.
