President AIOS AIOS Desk AIOS Desk
Dear AIOS members, Dear Colleagues,
Let me first of all wish you all a very happy X Mas and happy new year. I Hony. General
pleased to say that the local organizing committee, under the expert Secretary
guidance of our Immediate Past President Dr. Rama Murthy and Dr.
Narendran and Dr. Rodney is doing a great job in the preparation for the
conference in 2018. We the governing council have visited the site 4 times
and we are quite happy with the way arrangements are going on. We are
sure it is going to be a great conference, science wise and entertainment
wise. The salubrious weather of Coimbatore at that time will be a great boon.
The family members can keep themselves occupied with shopping and
sightseeing activities as there are many places nearby. The venue is close to
the airport and so should not cause any problems. We have an arrangement
with indigo airlines. Kindly book your travel through our web site and hotel
accommodation as well. We have many stalwarts coming for the conference
from different parts of the world. Sure this is going to be a scientific feast.
Food in Coimbatore is generally excellent and the arrangements being
made by the LOC will ensure you remember palatal experience for a long
time. I again wish you all a very happy new year and am waiting to receive
you all along with the LOC
Best wishes,
Dr. Santhan Gopal

Dear Friends, Happy New year to you and your family!
The much awaited AIOC 2018, in the Cotton city of Coimbatore is just around the Distinguished guests and participants of “All India Ophthalmological Conference
corner. With it's vibrant amalgamation of industry, education, heritage, health care, 2018”, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, it gives me great pleasure and
culture, scenery, salubrious climate & friendly citizens you would find the city privilege to welcome you all to the 76th Annual Conference of All India

science & social interaction will make your sojourn an enjoyable one. CODISSIA, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Chairman Organizing A very welcome to each & every one of you. Organizing Secretary With its state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities, CODISSIA is one of the largest
Committee trade fair complex in India and has been hosting some of the most notable events
Regards, and conferences in South India.
Dr. D. Ramamurthy It is my pleasure to be your host at this grand venue in Coimbatore. The classic
Chairman - AIOC 2018 South Indian city of Coimbatore awaits to welcome you. Coimbatore is the second
largest city of Tamil Nadu, and is known as the Manchester of South India. Situated
in the foot hills of The Nilgiri Mountains, Coimbatore has a pleasant climate,
peaceful atmosphere, increasingly cosmopolitan outlook, rich cultural history and
textile enterprises. Coimbatore is also in close proximity to other tourist places such
as Ooty (Tamil Nadu) and Munnar (Kerala), and is surrounded by scenic spots,
wildlife parks and ancient temples. The pleasant weather, warm traditional
hospitality and sumptuous south Indian cuisine will definitely add charm to the
experience.
The Organizing committee is working tirelessly to offer you a unique blend of socio-
cultural events, food delicacies and opportunities of fellowship to ease your nerves
after the grueling scientific feast to make you feel 'home away from home'. You, as
our revered guest, will be our sole focus of attention.
I wish to welcome you to Coimbatore, to share and explore newer aspects of
Ophthalmology. Hundreds of brilliant and excellent speakers will take charge of the
stage and contribute to the academic fest. And last but not the least; it's a great
opportunity of meeting colleagues and making new friends and forge lasting
bonds.
Once again on behalf of the LOC, I welcome one and all to Coimbatore, the
Manchester of the South and to experience our “KONGU” Hospitality.

Culinary of Coimbatore
Coimbatore cuisine is predominantly south Indian with rice as its base.
Most local restaurants still retain their rural flavor, with many restaurants
serving food over a banana leaf. Eating on a banana leaf is an old custom
and imparts a unique flavor to the food and is considered healthy. North
Indian, Chinese and continental cuisines are also available. Idly, dosa,
paniyaram and appam are popular dishes. Coimbatore has an active
street food culture and various cuisine options for dining. Arisi Paruppu
Sadam, made from a mixture of dal and rice is a recipe that existed from
fourth century CE and unique to the area. Kaalaan is a popular dish
prepared by simmering deep fried mushrooms (usually chopped
mushroom) in a spicy broth, until it reaches a porridge like consistency
and served sprinkled with chopped onions and coriander leaves.
