This year we have been focusing on getting to
know the Carlson Unit students better. It has
been amazing to find out more about how they
learn and communicate in different ways. We

have been taking turns at doing a shared
reading program with the students. Everyone
that has participated in it said it was a very

enjoyable experience, especially getting to
know all of the Carlson unit students. The
students involved got to read, help and teach
the Carlson unit kids. For the first time, a few
Carlson students came to Athletics Day and
had a race, where the Gandas each hopped
into a wheelchair and competed in the race.

The rest of the school was yelling
encouragement from the stands. It was a very

exciting day for everyone!

Trees  for
Survival
On a chill, misty Thursday morning,
the Trees for Survival group Matthew
Anna D
passionately arrived by a flash bus
to the farm in Matakana. Even though
the fields were muddy and at times
there were rain showers, they used
every bit of energy to help the owners

plant their trees. Overall it was an
enjoyable experience and each person
found an interesting fact about nature

on the trip.

Science extension is a group lead by Miss deGraff. This class is a
great opportunity for students who enjoy conducting scientific
experiments. This year, students have been working on rocket
experiments, and learning about circuits. We were lucky enough to

hatch 9 adorable baby chicks in an incubator,
and interact with them. We also learnt the process of how eggs
hatched, and even got to dissect an eggs. It was an incredible
experience for the lucky students of Waikowhai Intermediate.

Thank you Miss deGraaf!!

tough teams. Resulting in a 5th placing for the year 7 boys team and a 4th placing
for the year 8 boys team. Congratulations boys, what a fantastic effort!

                                                   The ball went!
                                          On the radiant morning
