SCIENCE
EXTENSION

Science Extension is a Class By Daniel
for people

who LOVE science. Every
Friday the students get to do

really fun science
experiments. They have
looked closely at really
creepy creatures and even
got to do science with FIRE.

Classroom science

This year during Classroom Science, Waikowhai students were on
an adventure of learning. All students got to participate in some
awesome experiences such as watching REAL LIFE baby chicks hatch!

Dissect lamb brains! AND dissect chicken hearts!
The students also learnt how fast and slow energy can burn among

lots of other exciting activities.
It was a wonderful year of science!

Kaitiaki-Trees For Survival

This year at Kaitiaki the team have
been working very hard, helping
the environment. They have made
the earth healthy and they have
planted new trees to help the
environment! They even went to a
fun planting day on the 23rd of
August where they got to plant,
learn about farming and even met
some cute cows!

SWIMMING

6th March

On the sixth of March the Waikowai
Intermediate Swimming Team went to
Diocesan School pool to compete in
Central Zone Swimming Sports. The
stands were crowded with rowdy and
supportive schools but Waikowai was

by far the loudest. The swimmers
were really fast and did extremely
well. Grace and Kevin made it to Inter
Zones. Grace made it into the 50
meter Backstroke and Kevin made
it into 50 meter freestyle, backstroke
AND butterfly. Fantastic effort! Well

done team!

Where they played several tough and
challenging games against other schools,
with everyone fighting for first. Overall the
year 8's came 9th and the year 7's came 7th.

All the girls played exceptionally well
and had positive team spirit the whole day.

Congratulations girls, well done!

The softball boys had a mind blowing day and played better than they
expected. The results were breathtaking for both year 8’s and year
7’s. It was a nice hot day at Wesley Intermediate and because the
boys did an amazing job, they made a trip to Mc Donalds for a nice
cold frozen fanta. The boys made our school very proud and had a
fun day, which is the most important thing. A special Congratulations

to the year 7's for placing 2nd!

Boys Hockey was a wonderful experience for all. With Mr
Ganda at the heart of the team, they worked hard and placed
third overall only to lose to many highly- skilled weekly teams.
Looking at past years this one is a relatively good year for boys

hockey.

Hip Hip Hockey! It was a successful day at North Harbour
Hockey Stadium as our hard-working hockey girls pushed their
way through the tournament coming 8th out of 16 teams overall.
They were lucky with the weather and had sunshine mostly all
day with a splash of rain. Their amazing coach, Mr Ganda, guided

them in the right direction of play. Fantastic job with great
results girls!
