St Heliers School Yearbook 2023 57 It's been a blast getting to know you. So long and farewell and all the best on the next part of your journey. Do not procrastinate. Get your work done, study for that test, and then you can enjoy your time without concern. Choose your friends wisely. Seek out friends who are nice, responsible and who will be there for you when you need someone. Also, seek out friends who will be willing to be part of a study group with you, should you need one. St Heliers School Yearbook 2023 61 by Parmin Dadolahi Sohrab This picture beautifully captures the essence of St Heliers School Kakahi and our journey throughout the year. The Kakahi Whale symbolises our unity as a team, showing the experiences of the year 7 and 8 students. Our school's SHS Logo represents us as a family. The Waka is a powerful symbol of our collective effort, where we paddle together to reach our goals. Embracing Maori culture, the Koru is decorated with house colours. I have drawn a microscope to show we acknowledge the excitement of our year 7 and 8 students for our science classes, highlighting its importance to us. In the corner, the joined hands symbolise our diverse year group, where we collaborate harmoniously, free from judgement. I have also drawn two people dancing representing the importance of ballroom dancing and its experience to us. This picture truly embodies the year 7 and 8 community. by Charlotte Green It is about how through everything, we had fun and stayed happy. The beach in the background symbolises Aotearoa and our Waterwise week. It also represents reflection. The puzzle pieces represent how we, as a school, make a difference in the world around us. It also represents how we stay resilient through the bad times. Piecing Together 2023 This is my artwork, The St Heliers School Journey. The whale symbolises unity as Kakahi, and how we will always swim in the same direction. Rangitoto symbolises Aotearoa and how we love and care for our country. Science is a subject only Kakahi does, and it is really fun and interesting. Camp Adair was another amazing experience and we ought to cherish the moment. The St Heliers School Journey by Denise Poon
62 St Heliers School Yearbook 2023 By Jona Jaka My yearbook cover represents the different and unique elements of SHS and the Kakahi Team (Yr 7 and 8). Rangitoto and the ocean represent St Heliers and how it plays a big part in our school. The sailing boat represents the Kakahi Team - together as one sailing through our senior years. Each quarter of the sail represents something different. The camp represents our fun and challenging journey we faced. The sports represent the many sports teams we have in our school. The stationary elements represent the Kakahi team always being ready to learn. Lastly the SHS represents our school and community. The four colours on the boat represent our 4 house colours - Kikorangi, Kakariki, Whero and Kowhai. The orca whale represents the Y7 and Y8 team together as one. by Henry Fan The windmill represents St Heliers School. The cottage (teacher’s office) full of knowledge, provides power to the windmill. Students grow up and learn in it. The Pakeha represents both Year 7 and 8, who are driving the windmill. That means Year 7 and 8 make the school better. The colours of wind around the windmill represent four house colours, which are Whero (red), Kakariki (green), Kikorangi (blue) and Kowhai (yellow). All school supplies and sports equipment that are blown by the wind are what students need in their school journey. The background is St Heliers beach and Rangitoto Island, which are significant signs of St Heliers. The Growing Journey of the Windmill My artwork has outline of the SHS school badge with a banner in the middle with “Kakihi 2023 Yearbook ” and a Kakihi in the middle of the text. Under the banner there is a sunrise with Rangitoto’s silhouette. In the top corners of the image there is a tui that represents life fulfillment, and confidence showing that year 8’s can fufill their St Heliers School life and can continue to other schools with confidence and fulfilment. Above the banner there are three maori gods, Tane Mahuta, Rehua, Tangaroa, and Tamanuitera, each a house colour represinting equality between the houses. by Lewis Ishmael
