I like to do Robotics because we get to work in a team and listen to others’ opinions and ideas. We get to make robots and buildings. But if you think robotics is that easy you are wrong. Every time we make something we have another challenge in it and sometimes that challenge can change the whole structure of what you have built. Kritya Senthil Kumar Robotics Robotics is very fun because you get to work with your friends and classmates. You also get to make robots and get to play with them too. I have had so much fun doing robotics and it has also made me think about the four Te Rākau pou a lot more than I used to. Thanks to Miss Lobo I have learnt a lot and have represented my school in a robotics tournament. Navtej Vishwanath
Enviro When I heard about Enviro I was wondering what it was, then my friends explained to me and encouraged me to join. So I joined and it was actually really fun. I learnt so much about gardening. The interesting thing about Enviro is that sometimes they give you plants for your own garden at home. Sanvi Patel The best thing about Envio is planting and seeing the plants grow step by step. I started looking after the environment and then I was addicted to it. I love seeing the colourful flowers grow. Thank you Mr Milne and Mr Heke for teaching me. Kritya Senthil Kumar The green team was very cool because you can explore nature and learn new things. The Green team has taught me a lot of stuff about plants as they are important to protect. Without them we wouldn’t be able to live. The most enjoyable part was that I got to go on the nature trail. Deetya Chamallamudi I like Enviro team very much because it taught me how to wield a shovel and a dirt fork. It was home to many biological creatures balancing a fragile ecosystem. It gave me opportunities to tell people that butterflies have chrysalis not cocoons. Cocoons are for moths and I could also teach them that they do not hatch from chrysalis they emerge. Neel Raval
What I really love about netball is you need to know how to work with others and use the chance to pass the ball around to your teammates. Netball is about strategy, you want to think about how you're going to pass the ball. Remember it's not just you playing the game, it's a team sport. Thanks to Miss Cassidy and Miss Lobo for teaching us how to play netball for Marshall Laing! Olivia Koy I’m happy I joined Netball, not only did I learn a new skill, I also made new friends. Miss Cassady and Miss Lobo are amazing coaches, and helped me and my team improve our netball skills. I had never played Netball before and was quite doubtful about joining, but now that I've tried it I’m definitely going to join Netball at intermediate. Did we win any games? No, but it showed me how being in a team and having fun is what matters most. Safiyah Othman Saturday Netball This netball season was definitely one to remember. We’ve had an amazing team and have met and made new friends along the way. It has been an awesome experience and it definitely was a challenge. We always got up when we fell; and there was always a helping hand. It sure was hard work preparing for those Saturday netball games, but we just had fun with it! Every second was worth it! A huge thanks to Miss Cassidy and Miss Lobo for their effort to make this happen, and to teach us what we know! Both the teams, Kia and Tui all appreciate your effort and help. Anya Sharma My netball experience was incredible! At the beginning of the year I signed up not knowing anything about netball and my coaches gave me an opportunity! For this I am so thankful. Netball helped me with my strength, my bravery and my communication. It taught me how to get back up and build resilience. Everyone at Saturday netball AND my tournament were so welcoming and I was shown good sportsmanship from all the players. I love my supportive team, as well as my coaches. Thank you so much Marshall Laing! I am so grateful. Umaiza Azim This year one of the things I was part of was our school Netball team. It was my first time playing and I had great fun over the season. We lost quite a few of our games but this season has taught me important lessons and skills. We persevered after each game to try be better than our last games. Deetya Chamallamudi
Saturday Football Saturday football was very fun and I really enjoyed playing soccer with my friends. It's a big team game. If you just try and score yourself you won’t, so you have to pass, pass, and then score. You also have to have good sportsmanship and try to be humble. Tyler Osborn Saturday football taught me lots of stuff this season. I know how to play in a team and support them. Another thing I learnt is it doesn't matter if you lose or win, it's just about having fun and enjoying yourself. Sufyaan Bohania The football team has made me become a better player. I have created new friends in the team. I learn how to show teamwork, accept a win or loss and because of the team I have won the player of the season. Aslan Sekandar Starting Saturday football really helped me push myself to the limits and playing every Saturday - man it was tiring, but it made me fitter and helped me learn to collaborate with others. It helps with your life skills and especially if someday you want to go and play football. Mr White coaches every Thursday and Friday and he makes practice challenging and fun. Nakul Srilal
Kea Crossing There are many things I love about Kea Crossing; hot chocolates when it’s rainy, stopping cars, the sense of authority in general. Kea Crossing is really fun and involves lots of coordination. Your eyes always need to be on the road, the pedestrians or your partner. You need to make sure your signs open up at the same time. Sometimes if one sign opens before the other pedestrians think it’s already ok to cross and having our arms up doesn’t make any difference. Kea Crossing is a really fun activity and I have really enjoyed doing it for the past 2 years. Mira Ammathi Look right, Look left, Look right again. I do this every Tuesday after school; just a typical day at Kea crossing. The best part is when you have a buddy for the year and you go out in the morning or afternoon to Kimber Hall Ave or White Swan Road. You help kids and parents cross the road with the big lollipop signs. I have been a MLPS Kea Crossing monitor for 2 years and the job has taught me; time management skills, the resilience you need to cope with all types of weather, and a sense of responsibility. Skills that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Benjamin Robinson Kea Crossing is all about being on time and helping children cross the road safely. Little children might be scared of all the cars while crossing the road but they cheer up when they know that the Kea Crossers can help them. Children need to be safe while around cars because every year there are tons of car related injuries, so that is why we made Kea Crossing for the safety and wellbeing of children. Arham Ahmed Road patrol has taught me many safety protocols. I want Year 4s to try out something new and sign up for Kea Crossing when they enter Manuka. If it’s raining you can earn yourself a hot chocolate. If you decide to keep going until the end of Year 6 you get to visit Rainbows End as a prize for keeping our school safe. You can also get the satisfaction of being a leader by getting kids to cross the road safely. Kaveesh Kumar Kea crossing is a great thing to do for your school. When I do Kea Crossing I feel really happy to see the kids cross the road safely and properly. This is why I love Kea Crossing. Nithika Kugatheesan
Chess I like chess because you have to use your brain and take chess pieces and make the person frustrated when they are losing badly and learn new strategies to beat your opponent and use new strategies and find weakness. Dev Maisuriya In chess, you learn new strategies by playing others. I also learn new strategies by watching videos, like how to win chess in two moves but it never worked on anyone. Most people beat me in chess but I know what's my problem, I keep on listening to them! Asad Khan Chess has taught me so much on how to move the knight. I challenge people and even if I lose , I will get up and try again. I don't whine if I lose or say the other person cheated. And when I win I show sportsmanship. Akmal Mohamad Chess is an amazing sport. Some people think it's just a board game but it's way more than that. To play chess you need a lot of skills, tactics, critical thinking, resilience and especially sportsmanship. Chess improves your cognitive skills like decision making, geometric thinking, self confidence and problem solving so that is why you should enroll your child to chess because you will notice huge changes just in a few months. Arham Ahmed Chess club helps me to concentrate. It is also a really fun board game/sport. I can challenge my friends with some good tricks and strategies. It builds concentration and focus. I learn lots of new things from the chess club. Mr White is a very good teacher. I learn lots of new things from him, he is a good inspiration. Manraj Singh
