yearbook art competition

Oscar Monro I chose a warm coloured background not only because it had an
Room 14 aesthetic purpose but also it was chosen because soon it will be our
last summer at St Heliers school. The waterstream coming out of the
computer is representing when we did white water rafting and aslo
waterwise. The taiaha and the poi is for how much time and effort
we put into Kapa Haka this year. The mudslide, and flag was for camp
and I represented just a few of the camp groups. The two people in
the bottom left is showing the ballroom dancing we did this term. The
licenses, show not only the licenses themselves but also the progress
we have made throughout this year. The sign with AIMs written on is shown because it was
the biggest sporting event this year for us. The colour palette is there because we have done
so much art already this year. I put our school logo in the glasses as it shows that we will never
forget St Heliers school and we have become almost a family under that shield.

Amy Kayes I chose to base my cover on the waterfront, as throughout life at St.
Room 14 Heliers, we have been there on many school trips, from year 0-8. It
is a symbol and view that we all recognize and associate with SHS. It
also comes with many memories for all of us; whether it be just with we
friends or the whole of Year 8. I chose to make the school logo as the
main feature and also the sun, because it is/has been a major part of
these last 8 years, and represents our time here. The sun is also a sign of
new beginnings, as we had when we started here as year 1’s, and will be
when we start college as year 9’s; it also is a symbol of good luck, which
all hope to have in college next years.

Kate This represents our beautiful community, and the nature that New
Saunders Zealand has. Pink is for the sunset. The sun represents all the good
Room 15 times we had together, while the clouds show all the hard times when
worked together

Katie The drawing represents all the students of St Heliers - as underneath our
Anderson uniforms we are all superheroes. The other meaning is that St Heliers
Room 15 teaches us to embrace and find everyones hidden talent/ personality and
that we are all super heroes in our own way.

St Heliers School Yearbook 2019 55

Liberty This piece has the name and year/age group. The two people are
Johns-Kerr two different genders and races, showing that our school is diverse.
Room 14 Rangitoto shows our love for NZ culture and the sky shows we use
this culture any time of the day

Martha The hands are for the students of SHS Rangitoto is in the background
Yamaguchi to state that it is our mountain and since we are surrounded by water,
Room 14 we used colours related to water.

Masha We are all different but are one Year 8.
Shvarchuck The school logo represents the school and it’s in a tree because trees
symbolise strength and the leaves stand for new growth. There are some people
Room 14 who are all very different symbolising how different our school is, as well as lots
of different images to show different interest. The background is blue as this
shows one of our school colours and also ‘the sky as the sky is the limit’. It’s
colorful to symbolise creativity and the quotes are examples of our school values
particular by care and dilligence.

Sarah Doel My cover art symbolises teamwork and diversity throughout
Room 14 St Heliers School. The emblem is the most prominent feature
to show that the school means a lot to us. The outline of the
emblem and the silhouette is the same colour to show how St
Heliers has influenced/helped build a strong foundation in every
student so they have the ability to succeed in the future.

Maria The puzzle shows that our school (St. Heliers School) is a bit like
Sakata a puzzle, that was built up to be what it is now. Each piece of the
Room 14 puzzle represents the students and teachers, built to St. Heliers
School. The Rangitoto Island view in the back, represents St. Heliers.
