It is a privilege to be at Waikowhai Intermediate as it is a great place to come
each day to work, learn and have fun.
In 2019 we have had an increased focus on well-being. The school’s ‘family
feel’ has always been commented on, and is a strength. Building on this
strength means that our children have every chance to be in the best place
possible to make the most of the opportunities at Waikowhai Intermediate.
Developing Lifelong Learners is a broad vision and one we strive towards, so
that we set our learners up in the best way possible to achieve to their
potential and contribute positively to their community. An awareness of their
own well-being, and having the skills and empathy to positively support and
affect the well-being of those around them, are part of the skills that will
support them to achieve to their potential.
Children at Waikowhai Intermediate are fortunate because of the skill,
dedication and commitment that our staff bring to the job. Waikowhai
Intermediate is a successful school because of our wonderful staff and the
role of the parents and caregivers supporting our staff to do their jobs is
critical. Working together with our community will always get the best results
for our children and we value the community's support.
As our Year 8s move on from Waikowhai Intermediate we have confidence
that they will be Lifelong Learners and make positive contributions to their
community, reaching their potential in whatever they set their mind. Our best
wishes to all of you for the future.
We look forward to seeing our Year 7s again next year and continuing to walk
alongside them in their journey as they take increasing responsibility for their
learning.
Thank you to all staff, students and our community for another superb year.
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday with your family.

HARD TECHNOLOGY
Hard technology is a time for us students to create, learn,
design and construct a technological model out of wood
and other hard materials. Students gain a good learning
experience with the hard tech world, and also discover a
passion to be creative and to construct an innovation
that will change the world.

BEACH ED 2019
It was a hot, sunny few days at Muriwai Beach. The Year 8's had a blast at Beach Ed.
Everyone was outside participating in awesome activities, learning about life saving
and what rips looks like in water. We also played a few games in the water and on the
grass / sand. Beach Ed was a really fun experience and definitely taught us a lot about
keeping safe around water. A special shout out to the wonderful life savers keeping our
beaches safe!

Japan Trip
On a windy autumn day we set off on an adventure to Singapore and Japan.
After a long 12 hour flight we landed in Sunny Singapore. Here we had a few
days of fun in the city of gardens. But after the long flight we needed some
sleep so we headed to the hotel to relax on the comfy beds and unpack. The
next day we caught the gondola to Sentosa Island and visited Universal
Studios. At Universal Studios there were loads of epic rides. The next day we
took the train to the Singapore Zoo and got to see many exotic animals. There
were even cute white tigers. We got lunch at a traditional Singaporean market
in which vendors sold delicious street food. After a sweltering day out we had a
swim in the refreshing pool before heading to bed. In the morning we travelled
to gardens by the bay. At gardens by
the bay there were mystical artificial trees and two mega greenhouses. Later on
we went to Raffles Mall to have dinner. The next day we flew out
of Singapore to Japan. A few movies later we arrived in Negora from
here we had an hour drive to Seto City. When we arrived at the
school there were cheer leaders with pom poms dancing to
Japanese music. Next we went to do-jo and ate traditional Japanese sweets
and drank delicious green tea. We then went for a tour and met our home-
stays, we were excited and nervous at the same time. In Japan we did
many fun activities. We went on a boat one day and saw otters,
they were so cute. We also
visited Nagoya castle,
It was really beautiful
and showed us the
historic side of Japan.
At school we learnt how to
write in Japanese characters and learnt how to make
ceramics. It was fun meeting our home stays and
making new friends at school but sadly we had to say
goodbye.
