This year we had five teams playing at Gillies Avenue, two SPORTS
B grade and two C grade, and one Reserve A. We also saw
an increase in the number of students attending practice
every Friday morning at 7.30am. Our enthusiastic students
made sure that we had a great deal of Badminton talent, as
well as some absolute beginners. Most of our teams relied
on our talented Year 10 players together with some senior
players, some new to the school.
In the local competition held at Gillies Hall our B1 team
were placed 2nd, B2 were placed 5th. In the C Open grade
our C1 team were also placed 2nd, and our C2 team were

Reserve A. They were placed 4th out of 10 schools.
Friday morning sessions have also been popular in Terms 2

114 2019 Arts Awards
AWARDS The Arts Faculty recognised students who have committed time,
energy, and excellence to the co-curricular programmes in our
four arts disciplines in 2019.
Awards were presented to students in the fields of Excellence,
Leadership, and Service to Music, Drama, Dance, and Visual Arts.
This year we had the opportunity to introduce new awards for
students in Maori and Pasifika Arts, Visual Arts, and Drama. We
are grateful to acknowledge the contributions and sponsorship of
GDC alumni, without whom this would not have been possible.
Special thanks go to the families of Debra Riwai-Faoagali, Peter
Wang, John and Cheryl Willoughby, Tracey Burton, and Nicole
Parish.
