SPOTLIGHT Gyproc inaugurates India’s Largest Plasterboard Plant at Jhagadia
Saint-Gobain India’s Gyproc Business
opened its new plasterboard manufacturing
facility at Jhagadia (Gujarat) on 30th January,
2018. It is India’s largest plasterboard
plant with an annual capacity of
30 million square meters.
The construction work of the facility began
in February 2016 and in record time, the
Operations team manufactured the first
saleable plasterboard in September 2017.
Today, the facility is replete with latest technology and automation for enhancing productivity and process capability. As
a market leader, the Gyproc business aims to continue to promote quality construction systems and expand its range of
environmentally friendly products and solutions designed to maximize acoustic and thermal comfort, indoor air quality
and fire resistance. This new investment will play a crucial role for the Business in serving the growing needs of the
Indian market in dry and light weight construction space.

Glass Business Declares Winners of Transparence 12.0 SPOTLIGHT
Saint-Gobain India’s Glass Business recognized
architecture and design students at the Grand Finale
of Transparence 2018 on March 10 in New Delhi.
The theme of India’s largest competition in this
sector was Wellbeing in Healing Spaces.
The participants had to make sure that the five pillars
of wellbeing - comfort, aesthetics, sustainability,
health and happiness – were present in the design
of these spaces.
This 12th edition saw a record number of entries,
with around 300 of them coming from over one hundred architecture and design schools in India. Twenty Five top
institutions, including the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, IIT Kharagpur (West Bengal) and Manipal
University (State of Karnataka), have adopted this subject as a curriculum project for their students, with credits and a
faculty assigned as mentor.
The regional and national winners were chosen by a panel of eminent Indian architects and received cumulative
scholarships of INR 1,50,000. Apart from the contest winners, scholarships included rewarding 5 budding architects to
empower their dreams and contribute to socially sensitive projects. The theme of the next edition, which will take place
in 2019, will focus on working spaces.

MARKET BUZZ GNO Abrasives Launches ‘Norton Car Spa’
With a view to expand its portfolio under the
Auto-after market segment, Grindwell Norton’s
Abrasives Business recently forayed into
Automotive Detailing Segment with the launch of
its first flagship Car Detailing Studio at Indore on
11th March, 2018.
Named as ‘Norton Car Spa’, the center offers a
range of services right from basic cleaning and
de-germification of the interiors and exteriors
of the car to high-end paint protection systems.
Norton Car Spa also provides a choice of products for home usage and services including high-performance ceramic
coatings and paint protection films. The centre deploys highly trained technicians who are experts in offering its Car
Detailing services.
Senior Management from the Abrasives Business, select customers and media fraternity were present at the launch
ceremony.

Grindwell Norton Participates in IREFCON 2018 MARKET BUZZ
Grindwell Norton’s (GNO) High Performance
Refractories Business and Refractory Zirconia
Business participated in the 12th edition of India
International Refractory Congress (IREFCON)
2018. The conference was held in New Delhi
from 7th to 9th March, 2018. The theme for this
year’s conference was “Refractory solutions
through user collaboration”. Refractory
makers from India and overseas came
together to engage in a dialogue with the
industry stakeholders and end consumers at
the three-day long conference.
Designed with the objective of aligning industry best practices with the global standards of operations and
uses, IREFCON provided a unique platform for bridging the gap between the products developed by refractory
manufacturers and the requirements of refractory users. An exhibition, consisting of more than 40 stalls, was also
part of this year’s congress. More than 50 companies across the world displayed their latest product offerings and
technologies at the exhibition.

MARKET BUZZ GNO Abrasives participates in IPTEX 2018
The Abrasives Business of Grindwell Norton
(GNO) participated in the 5th edition of IPTEX
2018 in Mumbai from 22nd to 24th February,
2018. Designed to meet the growing need
for excellence in all aspects of the gears
and power transmission, the event provided
a platform to highlight the latest gear
manufacturing technology available to the
Indian marketplace.
At the event, the Abrasives team displayed
a range of latest abrasive technologies
and leading products for all Gear Grinding
applications. The Business took this opportunity to launch ‘Xtrimium ’ – a new product portfolio for the Gear
Grinding industry aimed at enhancing customer experience. About 1000 visitors from across the country visited
the trade fair. The event also facilitated cross-business networking, creating new business opportunities for the
industry stakeholders.

Glass Business’ Jhagadia Plant receives CII’s HR Excellence Award 2017 REWARDING MOMENTS
The Jhagadia plant of Saint-Gobain India’s
Glass Business has been conferred with
Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) HR
Excellence Award for the year 2017. The
plant received the award for its significant
achievement in HR Excellence bases
CII’s HR Excellence Model. The award
stands testament to the plant’s focus
towards empowering its employees and its
constant endeavor to create a healthy work
environment.
The plant underwent onsite assessment based on stringent standards encompassing all aspects of human
resource management. The dimensions included 1) Leadership (2) HR Strategy (3) Learning & Development
(4) People Well Being and Employee Engagement (5) HR Management Processes/Practices and (6) The Results as
Performance and Perception Indicators. Jhagadia plant achieved qualifying scores in all the mentioned dimensions
in its maiden assessment year to receive the coveted recognition.
The award ceremony took place at New Delhi on 19th February, 2018. The award was received by Mahalingam K,
Team Leader - HR (Jhagadia), K. Balaji, Team Leader – HR, Learning & Development and Glass Solutions, Chennai,

REWARDING MOMENTS GNO Abrasives Wins Leader of Reference Award 2017 – Second Year in a Row!
GNO Abrasives received the prestigious
'Leader of Reference Award - 2017' for the
second year in a row. The award was accepted
collectively by GNO Abrasives' Senior
Management team from Mr. Patrick Millot -
President, Saint-Gobain Abrasives. The team
received the coveted recognition for their
consistent efforts through various initiatives
across sales, marketing, manufacturing and
customer service functions for staying ahead
of the competition.
In the year 2017, the team successfully faced market deterrents including demonetization and GST Tax Reformation
while maintaining its leadership position. To face the growing competition, GNO Abrasives had in-place an end-to-

Gyproc bags three awards at Realty Plus INEX Awards 2018 REWARDING MOMENTS
Saint-Gobain India’s Gyproc Business has been
conferred with three awards at the Realty Plus
Interior & Exterior (INEX) Awards ceremony held
in Mumbai on 31st January, 2018. The Business
received the awards in three distinct categories
- Product/Brand of the Year, Television Campaign
of the Year and Digital Innovation. Gyproc
Business received the awards for its Integrated
Marketing Approach, innovative product offerings
under the Roofing and Ceilings segment and
visually appealing customer engagements on the
television & digital marketing platforms.
Mr. Sudeep Kolte, Vice-President, Sales &
Marketing and Mr. Aninda Gupta, Manager – B2C Marketing received the awards on behalf of the team. Renowned
architects, real-estate developers, CEOs of building product companies and other real-estate professionals across
the country attended the gala evening.

REWARDING MOMENTS Accolades for Crystals Business
Saint-Gobain India’s Crystals Business recently
received two recognitions.
• The Business received the certificate of
Excellence as Best EOU (Export Oriented Unit)
from the Export Promotion Council, Ministry
of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
The award was presented to the Business for
its outstanding export performance during
the year 2015-16. Mr. K. S. Gopalkrishnan,
General Manager – Crystals Business received
the trophy and the certificate from Mr. C.R.
Chaudhary, Minister of State for Commerce &
Industry at the award ceremony held in New
Delhi on 12th February, 2018. Exports contribute
to about 85% of the turnover of the Crystals
Business. The Business caters majorly towards
Security, Industrial and Medical applications
like Radiation Detectors, Arrays and Pan Cake
Detectors for its customers based at USA,
Europe, China and South East Asia.
• In January 2018, the Business became the first
plant within the Ceramic Materials Activity (CMA) worldwide and within the Group in India to receive WCM Silver
Award. The plant scored 60.5 points in the two-day WCM audit and made it to the Silver certification. From the
WCM perspective, the plant has achieved significant progress on all the WCM pillars including Safety, People,
Involvement, Preventive Approach, Workplace Management, Level of Autonomy and Result Sustenance. Mr. K.

Gyproc’s Jind Plant Receives Saksham Sathi Award REWARDING MOMENTS
The Jind plant of Saint-Gobain India’s Gyproc Business has been
conferred with the Saksham Sathi Award for employing and training
apprentices at the plant. The plant received the award from the
Government of Haryana as a part of the Chief Minister’s flagship
initiative ‘Saksham Haryana’.
‘Saksham Haryana’ was introduced in October 2017 with the objective
of providing employment to over two lakh youths and achieve grade
level competencies for children in government schools in Haryana.
As a part of this initiative, Government of Haryana felicitated more
than 22 organizations that have employed more than five percent of
apprentices as a part of their workforce.

the award from Mr. Manohar Lal, Honorable Chief Minister,
Government of Harayana and Mr. Vipul Goel, Minister of State for

The Saint-Gobain India Delegation received 2
awards at the 57th Association of Business
Communicators of India (ABCI) Annual Awards
2017 held in Mumbai on 22nd December, 2017. The
team received a Silver trophy for the ‘Saint-Gobain
Employer Brand Communication Campaign’
nominated under the multimedia based category
and a Bronze trophy for the corporate film on
Grindwell Norton (GNO) nominated under the
corporate film category.
This year, ABCI received over 1900 nominations
in 32 categories from over 250 organizations
representing private sector companies, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and communication agencies across
the country. Ms. Medha Shanbhag, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications received the awards on behalf
of the Group in India.

The Saint-Gobain India Managers’ Meet 2018 CONFERENCES & MEETS
The Saint-Gobain India Managers’ Meet 2018 with Mr. Pierre-André de Chalendar, Chairman and CEO, Compagnie
de Saint-Gobain (CSG) was held in Mumbai on 31st January, 2018. Over 180 Senior Managers across the Group
in India attended the meet.
At the Meet, prior to the session with Mr. Chalendar, presentations were made by the Business Heads and
Senior Managers from Glass, Abrasives and Gyproc Businesses to the Senior Managers’ Group. In their
presentation, Mr. A. R. Unnikrishnan, Director – Sales & Marketing, Glass Business and Mr. K. Srihari, Business
Manager – Inspire, spoke about the new trends in world of marketing. The two highlighted important aspects
from the marketing world citing case studies and relevant examples from their Business and industry. This was
followed by the second presentation by Mr. Girish Dash - General Manager (Technical), Gyproc Business and
Mr. Prashant Gudur - Manager - Numerical Modeling and Grinding Technology, Saint-Gobain Research India (SGRI).

CONFERENCES & MEETS Mr. Dash and Mr. Gudur jointly spoke about the initiatives undertaken by the Gyproc Business in association with
SGRI to improve the acoustics in corporate offices. As a part of their presentation, the duo shared insights on
the need for good office acoustics, recent trends in office space designs and the business plans for the year
2018. The last presentation was made by Mr. Amit Koul - Head - Sales & Marketing, Abrasives Business and
Mr. T. S. Narayana Prasad – Business Head, Thin Wheels. The team gave an overview of the Abrasives Business
including last ten years’ history, the distribution network, product offerings along with their applications, market
wise growth dynamics, digital initiatives and strategies for 2018.
The India Managers' session began with the presentation by Mr. Anand Mahajan, General Delegate. In his
presentation, Mr. Mahajan highlighted the Group’s performance in India in 2017, the dynamics of the Indian
market, the improvement in the Group’s performance in India over the years and the future focus for the Indian
Delegation. Mr. Pierre-André de Chalendar covered three main points in his presentation - current Saint-Gobain
Group business scenario, short-term priorities and the Group’s long-term vision. After providing an overview of
the Group’s progress in 2017, Mr. Chalendar spoke about setting three short-term priorities: accelerating internal
growth, renewing external growth and improving margins by achieving operational excellence by adopting
latest manufacturing trends. In the end, he spoke about the long-term priorities for the Group. These include
sustainable urbanization, electric vehicle revolution, multi-comfort for customers and tailor-made innovation.
In conclusion, Mr. Chalendar put forth the below priorities:
• Accelerate internal growth through a customer centric approach, a specific resource allocation and a strong
focus on innovation
• Improve our external growth profile with an active stream of acquisitions
• Sustain our commitments on HR, CSR and operational excellence
In the end, a Q&A session was organized for Mr. Chalendar to address the questions posted by the managers
through the digital platform. The questions ranged from enquiries about Saint-Gobain’s investment plans in
India, future growth prospects of the Indian market, recent trends in Manufacturing 4.0 and the digital initiatives.

GNO Abrasives organizes ‘My Space’ Training Program for Women Employees TRAINING TIME
In March, during the week of International
Women’s Day, the Abrasives business
organized ‘My Space’ a training program for
women in Abrasives. The objective of the
program was to help the participants develop
their potential to fulfill their professional and
personal goals. Women employees from
all the Abrasives factory sites, attended the
daylong learning intervention at Mora. During
the program, participants received inputs
on a variety of topics including assertive
communication, improving self-confidence, overcoming self-limiting beliefs and developing an understanding
of their core values and strengths. The session also provided important insights on gender stereotypes, popular
perceptions about gender diversity and overcoming gender disparity. Ms. Lakshmi Devi from The Yellow Spot, a
professional training institute, facilitated the program along with Ms. Jyoti Tiwari, Head HR, Abrasives Business.

TRAINING TIME Workshop on Environmental Laws by Gyproc Business
To spread awareness about the Environmental
Laws and to highlight its importance in day-
to-day work, Saint-Gobain India’s Gyproc
Business conducted training workshops
on ‘Environmental Laws’ at its facilities in
Bangalore and Wada. The workshops were
organized in partnership with Dr. Ajay Ojha
from Technogreen Environmental Solutions
on 16th and 20th February, 2018.
The day long workshops included a session on
Regulatory Compliance followed by knowledge sharing on various environmental laws. A series of environmental
laws including Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, Environment
(Protection) Act and Bio-Medical Waste Management were explained in detail by the facilitator. Due-diligence of
regulatory compliance related to environmental laws was done by visiting factory premises. The process of filing
online Environmental Compliance Forms was demonstrated to the participants towards the end of the session.

Flat Glass India’s CSR Initiatives OUTREACH
A series of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives were organized by the Flat Glass Business in and
around its manufacturing sites at Bhiwadi, Chennai and Jhagadia.
• The convocation ceremony of 28 students from the
‘Learn while Earn’ (LWE) program, was conducted on
13th March, 2018 at Chennai. The students underwent
1664 hours of theoretical training and 8800 hours of
practical exposure over a period of 8 semesters as a
part of the program. The team partnered with Nettur
Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) for the program
which was launched in 2011. The students received
their Diploma Certificates in the presence of Mr. B.
Santhanam, President - Flat Glass (South Asia & Egypt)
and Solar (Malaysia), Mr. Padmakumar, Team Leader &
Head Human Resources, Flat Glass Business, Saint-
Gobain Research India & Head CSR - Saint-Gobain
Group in India along with Mr. Reghuraj, Managing
Director – NTTF and Mr. Dhennadayalan – Founder and
CEO – NTTF
• Computer literacy, especially for students, is
increasingly becoming an imperative need in today’s
times. As a contribution to meet this need, the Bhiwadi
team supported the construction of a computer lab at
a Government-owned Girls Hostel in Alwar (Rajasthan).
Along with this, the team also donated 20 computers
and related basic equipments including computer tables
and chairs to the lab. The lab was officially inaugurated
on 20th February, 2018 by Mr. P. Padmakumar, Team
Leader & Head Human Resources, Flat Glass Business,

Group in India and Mr. Surender Yadav – Assistant District
Programme Coordinator, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha
Abhiyan, Alwar, Rajasthan. This initiative directly impacts
300 rural community students
• With the objective to spread awareness on eye care, two
optical screening camps were organized in and around
the Chennai site. The camps, organized in January and
February 2018, focused on creating awareness about
optical hygiene and anemia amongst senior citizens
and women in particular. The Business further provided
support for high-end eye surgeries to about ten patients
identified through the camp. About 200 people benefitted
from this initiative
• As a part of its Health & Hygiene initiatives, the Chennai
team conducted a ‘personal hygiene program’ for
adolescent girls from four Government schools in the
neighbouring villages. Through this program, the girls
were educated on personal healthcare, hygiene and prevention of illness. A total of 197 girls benefitted from
this initiative
