YEARBOOK ART COMPETITION
Ben In the middle of my yearbook cover is the SHS logo, which is split into quarters
Hammersley with each of the houses in each quarter. School objects are scattered around the
SHS logo, such as a pencil, backpack and football, along with a ribbon banner
that says Camp Adair on it. There is also a rocketship which symbolises when we
did the mission to Mars project, and a computer that symbolises what we had to
do in quarantine. The background is made up of vertical rectangular strips of the
colours from all the four houses.
Mate This drawing represents the journey the Year 8’s went through. We went to
Csuhaj space, but at the end of the year we have to return and the journey has to
come to an end. I chose to do it this way because of all the references to our
adventure being out in space. The rail is like our pathway leading back to St
Heliers School.
Nina Foy The image I have created is a collage of different memories from this year in
Year 8. I have matched the colours according to what the image shows. I have
chosen to put all the images in thought bubbles because everything I have drawn
is a memory from this year, that we can look back and reflect on. I have drawn
these images because they were big moments that the whole of Year 8 had
participated. Therefore, this image can relate to everyone's year.
Braxton On the yearbook front cover I put 2020 because it's been an extremely crazy year. I
Savage put COVID-19, America and the Australian bushfires because they’re some of the
uncertain events that have happened this year. I put the house colours on the front
because Kikorangi, Whero, Kakariki and Kowhai are the best houses, and I put the
best school in history on there too - St Heliers School.
Cara Prest My cover represents the wild adventure we have had this year but how we are
overcoming it. The rocket ship symbolises the journey and how we are only headed
in the right direction. The caution tape represents the experience we have had with
COVID-19 which has affected the year massively. I’ve used maroon and blue in the
background as they are the St Heliers School colours. The stickmen are in the shape
of the school logo signifying that our year group is a team and we can achieve
anything together.
Theo My cover shows the road that the Year 8’s have been taking to college. All the values
Koningham on the sheet show what we have learnt over our time at school. The messages are on
buildings, trees and clouds to show that we use all of these values in our daily lives,
and that is why we are being taught them at school. The cover is fun and colourful
to show that learning these values at school isn’t grey and boring, and that learning
these at school is fun and colourful. These values are the ones that you need to have
when you grow up.
Will The image that I have drawn represents the troubles of 2020. You can see students
McKenzie of SHS standing on a stage rising above the troubles of 2020. We can see the fires,
Covid and a house with a padlock on it representing that we have been locked in our
houses. Money is falling from the sky because everyone is losing money over 2020. A
closed sign is there to infer that businesses are closing down over Covid. But while all
of this goes on, the students of SHS rise above it and stay strong.

Ellie The earth represents our school and how we hold people up, and that we are bigger
Schwartfeger than the community and we are a family. The mask covering the earth is about how
this year we had COVID-19 and how a lot of people got sick, and how the world had
to wear face masks to protect us from the virus. The flagpole with the name of the
houses are there because sport and being a team is a big part of our St Heliers life
growing up. The school crest is the biggest part of all, and how we wear it with pride
when representing the school.
Emily Clark This image is about a girl in her messy bedroom in lock down about to go on
a zoom call in her pajamas. It is meant to reflect how most of the students
were learning in lock down, and how it had affected us. The colour scheme
and design is also a radiant mess, symbolising how we all were when we
could not leave our homes. All the smaller details are used to show the
theme, and add interest into an otherwise confusing image.
Kyra Guard I choose a hand on my cover to display the 4 houses, as well as to show
how St Heliers School has given the Year 8s a helping hand throughout our
time here. I chose the background to be pink because it's one of the colours
chosen for our graduation social. Lastly, I chose a sun with everything that
describes Year 8 in it, because Year 8 made us shining stars.
Kyran I chose the four house colors for my background, to make it vibrant and
Fernandes bright. Our houses form the backdrop of our life at St Heliers and make
our activities fun and exciting. The computer with the St Heliers logo
represents our school life at home during lockdown. I will never forget St
Heliers School as it is the best school on earth and I have developed strong
friendships here. The laptop has helped us stay in touch with each other at
school and outside.
Pedro Leite The camera on my yearbook cover represents that every moment that we
had this year will be saved in our memory, just like when you take a picture
and it gets saved in the memory of your phone or camera. The pictures
represent all the moments that we had in 2020. There is the rocket from the
Mars Inquiry, the Camp Adair sign, the Covid-19 lockdown and the symbol
of the best school.
Ruth Gerson My image represents St Heliers School. The flag represents us at St Heliers
School being a community. The school values are written on the pole that the
person is holding, and this represents us always following the school values. On
the right-hand side of the flag, there is Rangitoto and a whale tail. The whale’s
tale is seen as a symbol of good luck, speed, strength and freedom, and this
represents us (as year 8’s) moving on and going to college next year. On the
right side of the flag, there is a sports ball representing sports in St Heliers
School, as well as music and art.
