Principal's Report

2018 has been a superb year, there
has been a lot to be thankful for!

We appreciate our community at
Waikowhai Intermediate.
A successful school like ours needs
the support of the community to
offer and achieve all that it does. We
are thankful to the parents and
caregivers who volunteer in so
many varied ways throughout the
year.

It seems our lives are getting busier, and the new norm in Auckland is to have both
caregivers working, so we are genuinely grateful for the help that we receive from our
parents and caregivers. It makes a real difference to what we can achieve as a school

and the opportunities that we can offer our students.
We are also thankful to our students who make Waikowhai Intermediate the place it is,
439 at the time of writing. It is our students through their hard work, energy, humour,
great character and courage for new learning that make Waikowhai Intermediate a great

place to learn and come each day.

At school there are a group of wonderful people we call support staff, who we owe a
great debt of gratitude to as well. They are our Teacher Aides, Caretaker, Receptionist
and Office Manager who all do critical jobs with great humour to keep the place running

so very well. Between them they help to ensure that every student has the best day
possible.

Last, be certainly not least, there are the teachers and our leadership team, as without
great teachers in front of our classrooms it would not be the same, their work is greatly

appreciated.

So thank you to our community, students, support staff, teachers and our leadership
team for your part in making Waikowhai Intermediate the great place that it is, I am

certainly grateful to come to work here each day.

Have a great summer break!

David King,
Principal.

Megan 2018 has been an

amazing year for the CASS

Unit. We have learnt all about how they

learn best. Everyone who participated in the

CASS Reading and Writing group were happy with

how fun it was. The CASS Unit have been involved in

everything Waikowhai. From chilling in the library locating

their favourite books, to heading outside for some awesome

P.E sessions. It has been amazing to see everyone get involved

together. A special congratulations to Tayla for being an

amazing school councilor this year!

SCIENCE
EXTENSION

Science Extension is a Class By Daniel
for people

who LOVE science. Every
Friday the students get to

do really fun science
experiments. They have
looked closely at really
creepy creatures and even
got to do science with FIRE.

23

Classroom science

This year during Classroom Science, Waikowhai students were
on an adventure of learning. All students got to participate in
some awesome experiences such as watching REAL LIFE baby
chicks hatch! Dissect lamb brains! AND dissect chicken hearts!
The students also learnt how fast and slow energy can burn

among lots of other exciting activities.
It was a wonderful year of science!

HARD TECHNOLOGY

Hard technology is a time for us students to create, learn,
design and construct a technological model out of wood
and other hard materials. Students gain a good learning
experience with the hard tech world, and also discover a
passion to be creative and to construct an innovation
that will change the world.
