STORY TITLE: THE SUN WILL RISE
Today is vacation day!
Eva and her siblings woke up this morning with so much joy in the corners of
their eyes and cheeks. Before the earliest cock crowed, they got off their beds and
started getting ready for the day. Maa Ansah didn’t have to talk much today as
she always did. As she hurried off her bed to wake them up and assign them to
their early morning duties, to her greatest surprise, Eva was already sweeping her
room. Maa Ansah shouted, ‘Eii, m’anyane anaa eye daae?’(Am I dreaming)
Eva giggled shyly like a baby. Eva was the eldest among her siblings and was such
a brilliant and smart girl. At school she always excelled in her class. She was a
beautiful girl
Looking out the window, Maa sees Elsa gathering the leaves that had fallen off
the old neem tree on the compound leading to the gate of the house. Maa had
still not realized what was going on this day. Elsa was a good artist, she loved
painting and sketching. She was as beautiful as Eva. ‘Hey Chris wake up!’ said
Maa, ‘ Are you serious at all? Don’t you have school today?’ Chris was the
youngest and was really lazy but funny. He was very handsome like her beautiful
sisters and always had a huge smile on his face. ‘But Maa, why do you want me
to go to school this early? Today is vacation day! And I hope you have made
preparations because I’m not taking any excuses.’ Maa Ansah then realized why
Eva and Elsa had suddenly become ‘good girls.’ After waking Chris up, Maa Ansah
started preparing breakfast for the family.
Mummy Ansah was really hardworking. She always told her children ‘We don’t
just grow by age but by maturity and responsibility.’ Mummy Ansah was an H-
teller and a business woman. She had so much passion for her family and God. Mr.
Ansah, the man of the house, was fond of reading the daily newspaper in his night
robe. He was a big tough man. Mr. Ansah was a wealthy man and he was also
generous. He owned two companies, five houses and acres of land. He was also a
lay preacher as well. He always told his children “Education, hard work, faith in
God and generosity are the main keys to success”. All his children agreed to this
advice. Mummy Ansah sends the children to school before going to work. The
children are really happy to be in school for their vacation party. Mummy Ansah
leaves her children while they wave her good-bye. They had so much fun. Eva
couldn’t wait to bring her report home to show to her dad because she knew she
did well in the examinations. Mr. Clinton, who was Eva’s uncle, was the principal
of the school Eva and her siblings attended. He was Mr. Ansah’s younger brother.
Chris on the other hand was happily playing games with his pack of friends until
the examination reports came in. ‘Oh boy! This is so bad,’ Chris scratches his head.
When school closed Mr. Clinton drove Eva and her siblings home. For some
reason their mom did not pick them today. When they arrived, the children were
surprised to see their family members, some members of their church and a few
family friends at the house. The children entered their rooms to freshen up. A
family meeting was held when they came down stairs. Elsa and Chris sat near
their mother wandering why she wore black from scarf to sandals, whiles Eva sat
near Mr. Clinton. The family head, grandpa Sam greets the gathering in a low tone
and tearfully announces the unfortunate death of Eva’s father, Mr. Ansah. Eva
and her siblings then realized that their father wasn’t at the gathering. They burst
into tears which was accompanied by more wailings and weeping. Grandpa Sam
consoled all of them but Eva kept crying. After a while her siblings stopped crying
and went to play with their cousins. Eva ran to her room and tore her report
papers out of anger and sorrow. That evening Eva did not eat and she did not
sleep as well.
After the funeral of her late father, her family members scavenged over all her
father’s property. They took all his lands, companies and four houses leaving Eva’s
Mother with only one flat. Mummy Ansah watched this quietly as she grieved,
and advised her children not to worry. Mr. Clinton was so kind that he offered Eva
and her siblings full time scholarship in his school. After vacation, Eva and her
siblings went back to school and everything about Eva and her siblings changed.
Eva became lazy. she never did her work and she was always waking up late. But
Chris became very hardworking. It was as if their father’s death had suddenly
made him realizes he needed to be responsible and take care of the family. Elsa
also became more hardworking and creative than ever. Mummy Ansah was
getting worried about her daughter, Eva. Eva, on the other hand, was thinking
about her father’s death and her mother’s suffering.
A part from being an H-teller, Eva’s mum had a small business, so this is how
Mummy Ansah pays for everything in the house. When mummy Ansah comes
home late, she is so stressed that Eva has to look after her mother and her
siblings. When her mother gets sick, Eva tries her best to help Mummy Ansah. Eva
was always scared when her mother was sick because she felt she and her siblings
would be left orphans if that happened. Because of this, Eva found it difficult to
concentrate in class. She would always be thinking about her family. Nobody
understood Eva. She stopped going to church on Sundays; all her friends tried to
do their best to help but they still did not understand her and what she was going
through.
One evening, Eva had a dream. In the dream, she saw her father in a boat. Her
father didn’t say a word. He just waved her as he canoed on to the other side of
the river. On the sides of the boat were written these words—Education, Success,
God, Fight, Victory. All these words came in different boats. Eva then woke up and
started crying uncontrollably.
In the morning, as Eva was preparing for school, she was thinking about the
dream she had and then told her mom about it when she couldn’t make any
meaning from the dream. Her mother just told her to pray.
While Eva was at school, she decided to talk to her uncle, Mr. Clinton. When Eva
went to Mr. Clinton’s office, he was happy to see her. He kindly offered her a seat
and a mug of tea. ‘What brings you here today, niece?’ said uncle Clinton while
pouring out some tea for Eva. ‘Uncle,’ Eva responded, ‘I am here because I
wanted to talk to you about a dream I had last night.’ Uncle Clinton was no dream
interpreter, but he was ready to listen. Eva then told her uncle about the dream
and they both prayed. While chatting, uncle Clinton said that Eva’s dad used to
say something before he passed. “He always said, ‘Education, hard work, faith in
God and generosity are they main keys to life’.” said uncle Clinton. Eva then
remembered her dad always told them that and some of those words were in her
dream. So uncle Clinton told her that might be the dream’s meaning. Eva thanked
her uncle and left his office.
Since that day, Eva changed. She became the old and brilliant Eva. She wanted to
become a lawyer so that she could help her mother win back their family
properties. After Eva completed high school, she had a scholarship to study at a
law school. It took Eva some years to finish law school. She then started a
counselling center to help people with law related issues. With this, she helped
her mother pay some house bills at home.
Years later, Eva became a lawyer. She fought so many cases and won by the grace
of God and was a famous lawyer. She was also a great woman of God.
She then decided to take her family to court to regain her properties. So, Eva
represented her mother as her lawyer. After the case the judge declared Maa
Ansah the winner and the rightful owner of the properties.
Eva’s family had no choice but to return the two companies, four houses and the
ten pieces of land. So, Eva and her siblings divided it among themselves. Eva was
the new C.E.O of her father’s companies. Her siblings had two houses each and
her mother had five pieces of land the other five were given out to others. Two
lands were given to Mr.Clinton and the remaining land was given to Eva’s family
to share because Maa Ansah knew it was the right thing to do. In the end, Eva got
married with four beautiful and intelligent children. She also runs her own
counseling center as well as her father’s companies. She is a great lawyer. Elsa is
also a visual artist— world-famous . And Chris is also a politician. These three
children made their mother proud and joyful. Eva tells us, ‘so this is how my story
turned out to be. Never do give up in life no matter what, and never give up on
happiness when a loved sadly, unexpectedly, painfully dies.’
