He was a pre-eminent Indian artist from Kolkata, West Bengal. His work
is in the permanent collection of a number of museums and galleries
throughout India, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi
and he is the recipient of numerous awards.
He is considered a revolutionary in the sense that he doesn't exhibit in
art galleries. All through his artistic career he has always exhibited on
street corners because he did not want his paintings to be imprisoned
within four walls. Most of his earlier artworks capture remembrances
from the past - some of them are very personal, and some are from the
darkest moments of human history. More recently he has painted
landscapes, depicting lush tropical vegetation, hills and valleys,
seascapes and mangroves in their wild diversity which have made him
even more popular with art galleries.

Manu Parekh is a pre-eminent Indian artist from Kolkata, West
Bengal. His work is in the permanent collection of a number of
museums and galleries throughout India, including the National
Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and he is the recipient of
numerous awards.
Parekh’s early work explored the relationships between man and
nature, as according to him, this was an energetic link that had to
be celebrated. The artist also points out that, since then,
contradictions have formed the basis of his artistic practice, no
matter the subject or genre of his works.Vivid colours and
prominent lines are an integral part of Parekh’s work and each
exudes the energy that he attempts to capture. Parekh admits to
being very strongly influenced by his surroundings.

A painter, illustrator, tutor and writer, Paritosh Sen has been a part of
the world of Indian art, for close to four decades now. Sen's more
recognizable works are his caricatures, which reflect strong underlying
socio-political shades, and his female nude drawings. His style of
representation is influenced by his exposure to Western Modern art,
and has traces of cubism. He uses two dimensional, structured planes
but still creates an illusion of voluptuousness.
Sen has experimented in various media from oil and water-colour to
etching, to even acrylic which is quite rare for an artist of his
generation. Paritosh Sen’s style never remained the same and it is not
possible to categorise his works into any specific art genre.

Born in 1940 in Nizampur, Andhra Pradesh, K. Laxma Goud completed
his diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Government School of
Art and Architecture, Hyderabad, in 1963; he then went on to study
Mural Painting and Printmaking at the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S.
University, Baroda, from 1963 to 1965.
Goud displays versatility over a range of mediums, from
printmaking, drawing, watercolour, gouache and pastels to glass
painting and sculpture in bronze and terracotta. Over the many years
of his artistic career, he is known to have moved from one medium
to another with élan. Fellow artist T. Vaikuntam, in one of his
interviews, reminisces that it was Laxma Goud who introduced him
to the art of sketching and made him aware of the possibilities of
this medium.

Born in 1933 at Lothal in Gujarat.
After initially training as a drawing
teacher, he studied painting at the
Faculty of Fine Arts of M.S.
University, Baroda, from 1956 to
1960. He was a National Cultural
Scholar in 1956, and received a
French Government scholarship to
study etching at Atelier 17, Paris in
1967. His predilection for drawing
was natural. Being an inexpensive,
transformative and free form of
expression, it appealed to him in his
negotiations with form and space. If
one looks at his early drawings
closely, one discovers the skill
behind the chaotic black lines. These
works are never predictable, and
deeply ironic in the manner in which
they use a simple medium to
interpret complex contemporary
visual fields. His self-designed tools
and innovative techniques give his
preferred medium – terracotta – a
contemporary edge. Shah uses a
number of tools, brushes,
instruments and hand tools to carve,
shape and mould his works. He has
designed and executed monumental
murals in brick, cement and
concrete.

Self-taught artist Badri Narayan has been painting for over 45 years.
During this time, he has worked as an art teacher and an artist, but
has always remained a deeply introspective individual. This self-
reflection and autobiographical perspective is the most constant
theme in Narayan's work.
The artist’s paintings are narrative, and titles like ‘Queen Khemsa's
Dream of Hamsa’ and ‘Meeting at Midstream’, are the starting points
from where one must unravel the complexities presented by the
paintings, in order to interpret and understand them. Symbolism is a
recurring feature of his works, though sometimes, he also uses
popular icons of Indian culture like Ganesha. He explains, "I have
picked up the imagery that surrounds me, the one I am born into, and
it comes naturally."
