The Dance and Dialogue series at the Luckman enriches our
community by fostering opportunities to experience life skills
sessions, where everyone is encouraged to approach dance with
an open heart and gain in empathetic understanding. Bringing
that emotional openness into the workshop dance classes helps
the kids to understand the deeper meaning of dance, getting to
see dance as a communication through movement about human
concerns and about stories of human interest.

Under the direction of Dance and Dialogue founder Ricka
Glucksman Kelsch, this program at the Luckman is an opportunity
for students to put dance in a context emotional honesty through
movement, and so to grow as an individual. It is a chance also to
see that through that individual growth in empathy, dance has a
place in bringing people together, in their communities and as
individuals.

THE LUCKMAN

OUR STORY

Since 1994, the Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State L.A has presented
cutting-edge professional music, dance, theatre, and visual arts from around
the world to the Los Angeles community. Located five miles east of Downtown,
the Luckman is home to three unique spaces: the Luckman Theatre with a
capacity of 1,152, the Intimate Theatre with seating of up to 300, and the
3,600 square foot Luckman Gallery.

The Luckman Fine Arts Complex is conveniently located just five miles
east of Downtown Los Angeles, on the campus of Cal State LA, where
the 10 and 710 freeways meet.

From the 5, 101, or 110 Exit Eastern Avenue, turn left over the
to the 10 freeway east: freeway, enter campus, and follow Paseo
Rancho Castilla north. Directional signage
From the 710 freeway: will help guide you to the Luckman.
Take the freeway north until it ends, turn left
From Pasadena: onto Valley Boulevard, left on Mariondale
Avenue, right on Paseo Rancho Castilla.
Directional signage will help guide you.
Take Fremont Avenue south, right on Valley
Boulevard, left on Mariondale Avenue.
Directional signage will help guide you.

PARKING

Parking is available on-site in the secure, well-lit lot directly in front of the
Luckman Complex entrance with the use of a valid permit. Permits can
be purchased at the yellow kiosks located throughout the parking lot. A
valid permit must be displayed on your vehicle’s dashboard at all times.
