WELCOME TO THE PRISM -

- a collaborative art zine showcasing the
experiences of 2SLGBTQ+ youth from Brantford,
Brant, and Six Nations of the Grand River.

Their art centers on interpretations of the Pride
flag's original colour meanings, as designed by
queer artist Gilbert Baker in 1978.

These include red for life, orange for healing,
yellow for sunshine, green for nature, blue for
magic, and purple for spirit.

All of these properties are intrinsic to and uniquely
experienced by 2SLGBTQ+ folks and deserve to
be celebrated and embraced. It is my hope that
this zine does just that, by connecting history, art,
and the lived experiences of youth today.

"A close friend sent me this poem when I was
struggling with coming out and this section
in particular comforted me deeply. Coming
out as an adult felt like a rebirth; letting go
of shame allowed me to live as my full self."

"2SLGBTQ+ is part of the nature of an
individual, not a choice or a phase. I
wanted to depict that by blending in what
appears to be a gay couple in a natural

setting."

"This piece is about the spirit of resistance
that's always been at the heart of Pride and
the queer liberation movement, especially
honouring BIPOC trans femme leaders and

founders of the movement."
