STUDI KOMPARASI PENGALAMAN AKTIFIS PERDAMAIAN MUSLIM DAN KRISTEN DALAM MEMBANGUN DIALOG ANTARA AGAMA DI JEMBER Asari Universitas Islam Negeri Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq (UIN KHAS) Jember, Indonesia e-mel*: [email protected] ABSTRACT Many people hear of interfaith dialogue, especially after 9/11, as a method of resolving religious conflicts and confronting religious fundamentalism. What is least questioned, however, is the premise that modern conflicts blame religion or that dialogue about religion is the business of ordinary people, unimportant and unrelated to academic or elite matters. It is with this assumption that conflict resolution efforts have been made, and it is not surprising that not much progress has been made in this field. Maybe we need to rethink interfaith dialogue critically, and that's exactly what needs to be done. For this reason, the researcher digs deeper into the comparative experiences of interfaith dialogue peace activists, not only from the perspective of the Muslim community, but also from the perspective of the Christian community in Jember. There are several research focuses examined in this study, namely: 1) What is meant by interfaith dialogue for Christians and Muslims?, 2) What are the obstacles they face in building interfaith dialogue?, 3) What activities are acceptable in building dialogue. Based on the findings and analysis combined with theory, researchers can conclude three answers to the research questions. First, for Christians, interfaith dialogue is a) an exchange of views on the beliefs and culture of other adherents, and learning from each other, because Christians and Muslims come from the same father (Ibrahim), b) a momentum or opportunity for reconciliation and increasing understanding between one another or between one group and another, c) Open our minds and have an attitude of mutual understanding, by seeking the truth because one cannot fully understand all the truth. One's knowledge is limited and requires other experiences, and spreading understood truths. There are several obstacles in building interfaith dialogue. For Christians, the obstacles are: a) Christianity and Islam have a bad history in the past. This history involves mistrust and violence against each other, b) Theological perspective" that Jesus is the only savior and Jesus will always be the savior and that is really important for a Christian's faith, c) Political barriers because religion and politics are bound together and sometimes close together because both are part of human life. What activities are acceptable in building interreligious dialogue, for Christians are as follows: a) Praying together while adhering to each other's beliefs, b) Visiting other people's places of worship to gain experience and knowledge, c) Celebrating holidays, such as Passover, Passover or Ramadan are other activities that are acceptable to Christians. Whereas for Muslims are as follows: a) Social activities to cooperate more in solving social problems, b) Cultural activities to further develop sensitivity to each tradition and its values, c) Intellectual activities are accepted for Muslims. MENANAMKAN MODERASI BERAGAMA DI LEMBAGA PENDIDIKAN Ahmad Zaki Muhyiddin Universitas Islam Negeri Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq (UIN KHAS) Jember, Indonesia e-mail*: [email protected] ABSTRACT The upholding of religious moderation in Indonesia needs to be guarded together, both by individuals, institutions, society and the state. Religious moderation is needed because extreme attitudes in religion are not in accordance with the essence of the teachings of the religion itself. Extreme behavior in the name of religion also often results in the birth of conflict, hatred, intolerance. Attitudes like that need to be moderated. So, among the millennial generation this attitude of moderation needs to be encouraged so that they can also accept differences that exist, including differences of opinion that exist within the religious community itself. When viewed historically, the term moderation has long been known as a living principle in human history. For example, in ancient Greek mythology, the principle of moderation is well known and inscribed in the inscription on the statue of Apollo at Delphi with the inscription Meden Agan, which means "moderate moderation". At that time, the principle of moderation was understood as the value of doing everything proportionally. not excessive. Moderation is also known in the traditions of various religions. If in Islam there is the concept of wasathiyah, in the Christian tradition there is the concept of the golden mean. In the Buddhist tradition there is Majjhima Patipada. In the Hindu religious tradition there is Madyhamika. In Confucianism there is also the concept of Zhong Yong. Thus, in the traditions of all religions, there is always a "middle way" teaching. From this it can be seen that each religion refers to the same point of meaning, namely choosing a middle way between the two extreme poles and not exaggerating is the most ideal religious attitude. Friday prayers and congregational prayers are religious orders, whereas health protocols are a product of science; thus, the purpose of this paper is to examine religious and scientific views on pandemics, the relationship between religion and science on pandemics, and the views of maqasid shari'ah between maintaining religion (hifdz al din) and soul (hifd al nafs) during a pandemic. Methods: This study used a transdisciplinary paradigm to investigate religion-science relationships, with maqashidshari'a serving as a research focus in the dynamics of hifzad-dinandhifzal-nafs in the framework of the Covid-19 pandemic. I conducted content analysis technique to the possible data emerged. To ensure the data trustworthiness of the study, I employed triangulation procedures. Results: Religion can positively respond the scientific findings. The Qur’anic verses and Hadits that require salat jum'at at the mosque, and the perfections during salat in straight and tightlines during pandemi may be replaced by only performing salat dhuhur at home or by implementing it with strict health protocols to minimize the risks of transmissions of the new cases. Conclusion: In the context of a pandemic, the religion-science relationship is dialogic. Maqasidshari'a prioritizes hifdzalnafs over hifdzad din because of maintaining the safety of life is dlarury while the perfection of worship is hajyi. All in all, religion can be justified in following science in order to save humanity and human rights. Keywords: Fiqh pandemi, religion, science, maqashid shari’a 56

NATIONAL IDENTITY AND ITS INTERPLAY OF TEACHERS' IDENTITY, KNOWLEDGE, AND PEDAGOGY: THE CASE OF MALAYSIA Norhakimah Khaiessa Ahmad Department of Language and Humanities Education, Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia e-mail*: [email protected] ABSTRACT National identity is one of the most important forms of ideology that affects human behaviours. Yet, the issue of whether it influences language teachers as educators’ subject matter knowledge or teaching practice receives less attention. With curricular reform and textbooks are no longer dominated by the local flavours, language teachers have their role in ensuring the education agenda is intact. Given the fact that the Malaysian government recently introduced the concept of Malaysia Madani as the core concept for the national identity, it is important to understand if and how language teachers’ existing knowledge and instruction have foregrounded their national identity. This paper examines the issue by investigating the interplay of Malaysian primary school English teachers’ teacher identities, their subject matter knowledge and teaching practices and how this interconnectedness leads to the formation of national identity. The implications for civil society and teacher education will be discussed. Keywords: National Identity; Teacher Identity; Grammar Teaching; Pedagogical Content Knowledge 62
