Bouquets

Dear Brother Emmanuel, thank you for great service by the team.

Recently NTA booked OCC meeting rooms for Exco meetings and were assisted by a responsive
and accommodating team.

Especially our Annual Convention of Delegates yesterday (26 Mar, Friday) at the Sapphire Suite.

We made a last minute request for early use of room for setup : very quickly Sis Sheena helped
to arrange and promptly responded that Bro Arnand will facilitate in getting the room ready and
opened by 7.30am.

When I arrived on Friday at 7.35am, Technician Daniel Sim was there and the room was all ready.
He stayed on to help until the system was all up and running properly, and gave assurance that Bro
Jimmy would arrive shortly.
Bro Jimmy was also very responsible to run through all the setup one more round before our
meeting started.

It has always been great going back to OCC and meeting very hospitable old friends who always
made time to come by to say hello, particular Sis Sheena and Bro Arnand
Grateful for USS which association can tap on to use OCC facilities – along the way introducing LM’s
family of services to a relatively new team of Exco Leaders.

Look forward to more meetings at the Club.

Recently you may have noticed the Club’s “big ben”
was out of action for a few weeks and Members
were asking when it will start “ticking” again. It
took a while to get it back up as the replacement
component had to be specially ordered from
Switzerland but its finally up and running again.
Members should already be aware that the Club
is under-going repainting works and getting a
fresh coat of paint. This is all part of our facility
renewal programme to refresh the Club’s facilities.
Currently, the Golf Club House and Guest Room
block are being re-painted and we are sure that
you can already see a big difference.
The Club will continue to minimise any disruption to
service while the repainting works are in progress.
we would like to take this time to thank you for
your patience during the upgrading period.

The upgrading project on Dendro commenced on 1 June 2021. Although there were several days
where work had to halt intermittently because of wet weather, we are pleased to inform you that
there was no major delay and we are on track with the upgrading progress. Major earthworks had
begun. After which, the greens would be shaped before the laying the irrigation pipes.

When is the Price increAse For bAll Prices?

As shared in the Orchid buzz on 3 June 21, Members can look forward to the various infrastructure improvements
at the driving range.
Driving range ball rates have not been revised for over 10 years and this would not be sustainable in the long
run. The price revision is necessary as we seek to improve the driving range experience and also ensure that the
Club can cope with the increasing operating, maintenance, and manpower costs.
with effect from Thursday, 1 July 2021, the Club revised the rates of driving range ball as follows:

Categories Current Rates New Rates w.e.f Thursday, 1 July 2021
OCC Members Off-peak: $0.04 per ball $0.07 per ball

Visitors Peak: $0.05 per ball $0.09 per ball
Off-peak: $0.06 per ball

Peak: $0.07 per ball

Reminder to members to change to the new RFID cards for the new
driving Range Tee-Up system

The upgrading of the driving range Tee-up system is expected to be completed by 31 December 2021. The Club
has been gradually phasing out the use of the sMART Range cards since January 2021. From 1 January 2022,
these cards will not be valid.
Members are reminded to utilize the remaining value in your sMART cards by 31 December 2021 or to purchase
a new RFID range card at $5 (subject to GsT) over the counter and do a balance transfer. OCC member can
enjoy a 50% discount when you purchase the first new RFID range card at $2.05 (subject to GST).

reMinders on golf course etiquette

TIPs TO beAT slOw PlAY

waiting around for other golfers to move on to the next tee could be frustrating. Golfers should remember
that their pace of play affects others in the golf course and it is the golfer’s duty to keep up with the front flight
to make their round of golf efficient and enjoyable.
Here are some tips for avoiding slow play in golf…
1. Lose the elaborate pre-shot routine
Plan your shot while walking to your ball or while others are playing. be ready to play when it is your turn.
2. Manage the lost ball scenario
We have witnessed this before. When one flight mate’s ball goes left and another flight mate’s ball goes right,
the whole flight goes in search of the ball on the left before trudging to the right in search of ball number two. It
is good etiquette to help look for balls but please don’t forget about the group behind.
3. Keep up with the pace
Golf is not a game that should be rushed but a 5-hour round is not great fun at all. every golfer should do
their best to keep up with the group in front and leave no clear hole between flights. Pace of play is the total
amount of time it takes to play a round of golf. Flow of play is how well players move through the golf course
without having to wait, regardless of the actual time it takes to play.
4. Play ready golf
when driving or riding in a buggy, take several clubs with you to your ball so that you do not have to walk back
to the buggy. Develop an eye for distance and be efficient with the pre-shot routine.
In recent months, we have sent out the Marshal’s advice to golfers who are slow and have held
up flights. We wish to remind golfers to follow the Marshal’s advise when being approached to
speed up play or to close up the “gap” with the flight ahead of you.

CAse

we would like to share a recent case of slow play whereby
players were escorted out of the course. The flight was issued the
1st warning for bad timing on Aranda hole 3 as they were almost 1 hole
clear from the flight ahead of them.
After the 1st warning, the Marshals continued to monitor their pace but there was no improvement at all. Their
2nd warning for bad timing was issued at hole 6. At hole 8, the 3rd and final warning was issued and the flight
was advised to pick up their ball and to proceed to the next hole as they were holding up the entire field. The
golfers refused.
Finally, at Vanda hole 1, the flight was 2 holes clear from the flight ahead and they were escorted out of the
golf course.

PITCH MARKs ON THe GReeNs

we hope that members have enjoyed the new Vanda greens since its opening.
Pitch marks have begun to show up on these new greens. Not only do they
make our greens look unsightly, pitch marks can affect ball roll and cause
the player’s putt to deviate offline.
A correctly repaired pitch mark will recover in 24hours. An unrepaired
pitch mark will take up to 2 months or longer to recover.
we urge members to repair their own ball marks and if you have the
time, repair as many as you can.
everyone has a part to play in ensuring that we have consistent greens
surfaces to putt on every hole. when a pitch mark is left unrepaired, it
becomes a permanent bruise, causing the maintenance crew to have to punch
out and replace the damaged turf.
Repairing pitch mark is good etiquette! Here’s how to do it correctly.

RePAIRING YOuR DIVOTs

Properly repairing divots helps the turf recover
as quickly as possible and helps to restore a
smooth playing surface. An unrepaired divot
can take months to heal.
As you admire your shot, watch where your
divot went. Replacing your divot is always
the best option for repair. If the entire divot
explodes into pieces, look around for any
other usable divot that can fit in your scar.
Regardless of the club used,
replacing a divot is a simple act.
Find the dislodged turf and replace
it, making sure to push the divot
back into the scar with your foot
to enhance rooting. To properly fill
a divot, place sand in each divot,
making sure the divot sand does
not spill onto undamaged turf. use
your foot to compact and level the
divot sand. This will provide better
soil-to-seed contact to enhance
germination and survival of the turf.
