First-Aid Training
for Staff

Emergency training such as Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) and how to use an
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) are
essential lifesaving skills to have. Emergencies
can happen anytime, anywhere, hence it
is essential that our operational staff are
competently trained to prevent any emergency
from escalating into a major disaster.

The First-Aid and CPR/AED course aims to
provide our staff with both practical and
theoretical skills so that they will be able to
perform effective CPR/AED on victims, as
well as the approach to performing critical
emergency interventions on victims. CPR/AED
courses are conducted yearly within OCC/ACC
for new staff as well as existing staff to refresh
their knowledge and skills.

NTUC Club Appreciating U for frontline
staff started as a ground-up initiative in
year 2018, previously known as “Guest
Services Day”. In 2020, it was combined
with “Appreciating You - Unsung Hero”
where it included the celebration of
backend contribution by our service
partners. Due to covid, the event was held
virtually for the past two years.

On 24 Aug 2022 (Wed), in view of the
relaxation of the safe management
measures, this year’s Appreciating U event
was held onsite at both OCC’s Octagon
Room and NTUC Club. The event was
livestreamed between both venues
with pampering treats like massage and
sumptuous High Tea bento set catered for
frontline operations staff on the day. OCC’s
General Manager, Emmanuel Lem was also
present to personally thanked the staff.

NEW
BUGGIES

The Club is pleased to announce that the new fleet of
electric-powered buggies will be arriving at the end of
January 2023. Tight manpower and shortage of parts
caused by the COVID-19 situation largely impacted and
caused great disruption to the global supply chain, leading
to a delay in the delivery of new buggies.

In the meantime, in order to ensure we have sufficient
operational buggies, we have actively replaced the batteries
in our current buggies. More information will be provided
nearer to delivery date.

9 The Orchid — GOLF Aranda was officially opened for Members play
on 30 July 2022. There was a slight delay in the
ArandaThe Completion of completion of the Aranda golf course upgrading
project, mainly due to enhancement works like the
construction of the sandbelt bunkers, lengthening
of certain holes, addition of new hazards, all
intended to make this course aesthetically
pleasing and also more challenging for golfers.

Aranda 1 (Par 4) Blue Tee White Tee Red Tee
367m 323m
340m

OLD NEW

The opening hole on Aranda had been stretched out. The tee boxes had been pulled farther back to make this hole
longer. The fairway bunker on the left had also been elongated to put it back in play. More trees had been planted on
the right-hand side of this hole to shield off stray balls heading to the direction of the swimming pool.

Aranda 2 (Par 3) Blue Tee White Tee Red Tee
201m 160m
181m

OLD NEW

The pothole bunkers had made way for these sandbelt style bunkers. This hole is trickier than it looks and club selection
is important. A well struck shot can reach the green in one but beware of the bunkers guarding the green.

Another significant change to this hole is the re-routing of the buggy path. After completing hole 1, golfers can hop into
their buggies and have a clear view of the hole 2 tee boxes. There is no need to fear being hit by a stray ball from the
flight behind.

Aranda 3 (Par 4) Blue Tee White Tee Red Tee
384m 343m
360m

OLD NEW

This medium Par 4 hole used to have a valley where water log often occurred. The valley had been backfilled to level
this area to address the water log issue. Golfers attacking the green in two must steer clear of the fairway bunker.

The Orchid — GOLF 10

Aranda 4 (Par 5) Blue Tee White Tee Red Tee
451m 388m
424m

OLD NEW

Perhaps the most challenging hole on Aranda, the fairway had been elevated to allow golfers standing on the tee boxes,
a clear view of the fairway. This hole demands accuracy for both the tee and second shots. The new green is tucked
farther back and it is another tricky green where you will want to get your approach on the right level, so that you can be
aggressive on your approach putt.

Aranda hole 4 used to have many dangerous play incidents in the past. The Greens committee decided that the buggy
path should be extended and brought nearer to the green, so that golfers, after completing the hole, can get back to their
buggies quicker to move off to the next tee box and will not be exposed to shots coming in from the flight behind them.

Aranda 5 (Par 4) Blue Tee White Tee Red Tee
399m 327m
354m

OLD NEW

This is another hole with massive changes made.

The waste bunker had been transformed into a water hazard. A good drive across the hazard in the fairway can set up a
short to middle iron to the green. Golfers who go for the green in two could be rewarded with a birdie but they also risk
having their balls land in the bunkers in front of the green.

Aranda 6 (Par 3) Blue Tee White Tee Red Tee
145m 102m
122m

OLD NEW

The shrubs that used to line the right side of this hole had been cleared up, revealing a clear entry into the green.
However, the green is flanked on the right side by the water body and the left side by bunkers. For golfers who over club,
they may just see their ball land in the water hazard at the back of the green. This hole will definitely require precision and
wind direction must be taken into consideration.

11 The Orchid — GOLF ArandaThe Completion of

Aranda 7 (Par 5) Blue Tee White Tee Red Tee
480m 430m
443m

OLD NEW

The fairway bunker on the left of the hole had been shifted to closer to the middle of the fairway. More trees had been
planted to shield off stray shots on the left of this hole. When approaching the green, there is a pot hole bunker which is
situated just before the green.

Aranda 8 (Par 4) Blue Tee White Tee Red Tee
328m 283m
298m

OLD NEW

Hole 8 green had been shifted to nearer the water body. Golfers who over club may see themselves land into trouble in
the water hazard or the bunkers that are surrounding the green. The buggy path for this hole had also been rerouted to
allow golfers to get to their buggies quicker to help speed up play.

Aranda 9 (Par 4) Blue Tee White Tee Red Tee
394m 356m
375m

OLD NEW

The bunkers on this hole are all much bigger now. The tree line for this hole had also been amended. More palm trees
had been planted along the right-hand side of this hold to shield off errant shots from the adjacent hole. The contours
on the green here is also much gentler but they are still the 2-tiered greens which would require some good local
knowledge to navigate.

The National Day Golf was a roaring success
as 200 golfers turn up in hues of red and
white to tee-off for Singapore’s 57th birthday.
This marks the first National Day Golf game
after a 2-year hiatus due to the COVID-19
pandemic. The golfers’ pride and respect for
the nation can be felt from the resounding
singing of the national anthem and reciting of
the pledge during the flag-raising ceremony.
The game commenced shortly after with
many golfers posing for the camera, just
having a blast. After their game, golfers were
treated to delicious buffet lunch followed by
prize presentation.

21 The Orchid — LIFESTYLE

In the first collaborative event between
our Golf and Social teams, the event went
smoothly and was a tremendous success.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter as
children posed with cute inflatable floats
in the pool and splashing around while
bazaar stalls lined the walkway, selling
a variety of products as well as live food
stations. We would like to thank members
and guests for your support including
golfers who dropped by the Recreation
Clubhouse after their game in the morning.

Fun at the
pool with cute
