Carefully read the text below about Desa Dairy Farm to answer all of the
questions in Malaysia's Mini New Zealand’s game.
Desa Dairy Farm is located at the Mesilau Plateau, Kundasang, Ranau, Sabah. It is one of the
subsidiaries of Desa Group of Companies which is wholly owned by the state government of
Sabah, Malaysia. The real attraction here is the cattle farm, producing about 900,00 liters of
milk per year. The farm is 199 hectares and most of the milking cows are Friesians, the highest
milk producers of all cattle breeds. Without further ado, let’s head to “The Calf Pen” where the
main activities take part – feeding young calves and goats. The feeding timetable and charges
are shown below:
Agropen Activity:
morning feeding time (08.30 am), afternoon feeding time (12.00 pm)
Milk & Grass for Feeding:
milk feeding (RM1.50), grass feeding (RM 1.00)
A young goat is harder to feed in comparison with the calf since they would use all
their strength to drag those grass feds off your hands, which sometimes you might
get shocked and lose your own grips! A goat prefers having more grass than milk and
simply enjoys if visitors gently pat/rubs on their forehead, they might have well
co-operated enough to face your camera if you had performed the right
techniques. Besides learning the milking process, feeding the calves with bottled milk,
feeding goats with grass and so on. The most important thing that you never want to
miss in Desa Dairy Farm, is none other than enjoying delicious Desa homemade dairy
products.
The Desa Dairy Farm includes a large food & beverage section which consists of a few
small booths – Desa Gelato (Ice Cream), Desa Retail (Milk Beverage and Cheese) and
Desa Pastries (Pizza, Sausage and Chicken Nugget). After Desa gelato, then let's head
over to the “Desa Retail” section which mainly focuses on selling – Desa milk
beverages, yogurt, and various type cheese. In our opinion, the Desa chocolate milk
RM 4.20 (500ml) and RM 7.00 (1litre) is a must-try on the list or you can have the
coffee milk flavor if you are a coffee addict, forget about those cheese product as a
foreign traveler since we still have two and half hour road trip back to Kota Kinabalu
city.
