In 1953, twin brothers Bill and Bob Meistrell co-founded Body Glove when
they designed the first practical wetsuit. Almost 65 years later Body Glove
continues to innovate products for watermen and women all over the world.
It all began in a pool in Booneville, Missouri.

Bill and Bob were fascinated with the water. When they were 14 years old,
they fashioned their own diving helmet out of a vegetable can and a tire
pump. They explored the bottom of a pool reading magazines while the other
held the air pump on the surface.

In 1953 we invented the first practical
wetsuit, which revolutionized surfing
and diving. We came up with the phrase
“fits like a glove” and Body Glove was

born.

THE BEGINNING

Bev Morgan offered Bill the opportunity to buy in to his local marine / dive
shop, Dive N’ Surf. Bev owned the shop with Hap Jacobs, who later pioneered
the modern surfboard. Jacobs wanted out and Bill accepted the offer on the
condition that his brother Bob be brought in as the third partner. Bev agreed,
Bob and Bill borrowed $1800 from their mother and each bought one third of
the business. To keep themselves afloat, the twins continued lifeguarding on a
part-time basis.
Bill and Bob needed to find a way to combat California’s cold water. They
tried everything from wartime electrically heated flyers suits to wool sweaters
that lasted only as long as they were dry. Finally in 1953, they discovered an
insulating material used in the back of refrigerators. With this “neoprene” the
Meistrell brothers fashioned the first practical wetsuits. Their new innovation
helped them buy Bev’s share of the business in 1957, and Dive N’ Surf became
the home of “The Body Glove.”

It is this history of innovation and love of the ocean that challenges
Body Glove to make products fitting every waterman’s needs. Body
Glove pledges to continually build products that enhance and pro-
tect us both above and below the water’s surface.

LUKE HOPKINS

SUP DESIGNER & ATHLETE

From a very early age, Luke Hopkins was using and appreciating Body Glove products
while wakeboarding and playing on the water. He grew up to become a professional
whitewater freestyle kayaker as well as a pro stand up paddleboard athlete and helped
pioneer the sport of whitewater SUP. Still always representing BodyGlove as an athlete,
he took a position as the Body Glove International outdoor sporting goods manager and is
now the Surf9 watersports division president.
Luke’s extreme competitive spirit he used in his kayaking and pro paddleboarding career
as a SUP cross racer is what drives him in his development of Body Glove products, new
innovations, and helping others achieve a great customer experience. He loves time spent
on the water with his wife Anne, who’s also a Body Glove athlete, and their 2 daughters.
When he’s designing or developing a new product, he often has his family in mind and
how they can all share that experience on the water together.

SUP YOGA ATHLETE

Alex Keller is an avid adventurer and international yoga teacher. She organizes and leads
yoga teacher trainings, retreats and workshops all around the world. Alex blends her love
of yoga with her love of stand up paddle boarding to create a practice connected to nature.
Alex is an ACA certified level 2 SUP instructor, ACA SUP yoga endorsed, E-RYT 500 hour
yoga instructor and wilderness first responder.

Finding your Oasis
As a water lover who has devoted her life to yoga, nothing ignites both of my passions like
stand up paddle board (SUP) yoga. Over the past 7 years, I have paddled many boards and
of course tried to yoga on all of them. I am generally not a picky person, but when it comes
to my board I found out that the quality of the product directly affects the quality of my ex-
perience. After much searching I’ve finally met people who look beyond the basics of paddle
boards to create not only a great board, but an amazing platform to practice yoga on. You
wouldn’t go winter surfing in your bathing suit, so why would you yoga on a board not de-
signed for freedom of movement? Body Glove has created a great inflatable paddle board
designed specifically to meet the needs of yogis and adventurers alike. Body Glove has built
some innovative features into their new Oasis board. I recently had the opportunity to ex-
plore beautiful waters and experience everything the board had to offer, here are a few of my
favorite features.

It’s inflatable. I am no stranger to carrying my board for long distances so I was shocked at
how light and easy it was to carry the inflatable board. The ease and convenience of this in-
flatable board allowed me to take my SUP yoga sessions to the most secluded places on the
river.

The integrated paddle handle system. Carrying the board to the river was a breeze. Since
there isn’t a permanent handle of the center of the board, I didn’t have to worry about chang-
ing my practice to avoid the center of the board. The Velcro straps at each end made it easy
to store my paddle while I practice yoga, without having to worry about it floating away.

The non-slip surface. The entire deck of the Oasis yoga board was a perfect non-slip surface.
Between sweaty palms and wet feet sliding around is usually a risk when I practice yoga on a
paddle board. The yoga mat like material on the Oasis board made it easy to stick any pose.

DALEY MEISTRELL

SURF ATHLETE

Daley was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, California, and grew up with a love
for the water! Summers were spent going to the beach and and worked as a junior
lifeguard. He played water polo and competed on the swim team at Mira Costa High
School and played 4 years of Division 1 Water Polo at Santa Clara University. After
college, he became an LA County Lifeguard and really pushed his love for the ocean
to another level, competing in Rock 2 Rock and the Catalina Classic, a 32-mile prone
paddleboard race between Catalina and Manhattan Beach. He’s a third generation
family member of Body Glove, and has worked for the company for over 6 years.

It’s in Body Glove’s innovative spirit to come up with new products and overcome
challenges by inventing something new. For years, surfers have struggled with
the challenge of surf traveling with damaged boards, high priced airline baggage
fees or having to settle for expensive subpar surfboard rentals.

Body Glove’s inflatable surfboard line allows you to travel with your board hassle-
free. We use higher pressure dropstitch, double layer PVC, and carbon stringers
creating a much stiffer board that still performs well and easy for any skill level.
We use 2 inch and 2.75 inch thick dropstitch allows for more high surfing perfor-
