The boy who
cried wolf
Once upon a time, there was a shepherd
boy who used to take his flock of sheep
to the hill to graze on the fresh green
grass. Sitting there, he had nothing to
do the whole day.
One day, an idea struck him. To overcome his
boredom, he cried out, “wolf! wolf! there is a
wolf after my sheep.
Wolf! Wolf!
All the men came running with
their sticks and to their dismay
found no wolf! The boy laughed.
Again after few days, he feel
bored again.
So the shepherd boy jumped
up and yelling, ‘‘wolf!
Wolf!’’ again.
the villagers again came running
up the hill only to find that the
shepherd boy had fooled them. He
laughed and laughed. However,
this time, the villagers were very
angry, and they told him that the
next time he cries out for help,
they would not come.
Next day when his flock of sheep were
grazing, he heard… growling sound of
wolves.
Three wolves came out and
the sheep started running
in all directions. He cried
out loud “wolves! wolves!”.
But this time no one came to
help him. He spend the rest of
the day looking for his sheep.
The shepherd boy returned
home crying with none of his
sheep. The wolf had taken
away all of his sheep.from
that day onwards, he promised
never to lie again.
This short story teaches us a moral lesson that people refuse to
believe a liar even when he is telling the truth. Moral of the story is
we should be honest and never tried to lie to someone.
