There are 99 names of Allah mentioned in the Holy Quran. All these names explain Allah’s
attributes to the believers. HE has revealed HIMSELF by the name of ALLAH many times in the
Holy Quran so we know about HIS supremacy.

According to a hadith, there are 99 Attributes of Allah, known as the Asma ul Husna.

One could ask what happens if you learn 99 names of Allah? The simple answer to this question
is “Sawab” or blessings. Reciting and learning Allah names can help you in many spiritual
ways.

In this article, we are going to explain the meaning of those 99 names in English and Arabic.

Allah Names Mentioned in Quran

And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah, so call on Him by them, and leave the
company of those who belie or deny (or utter impious speech against) His Names. They will
be requited for what they used to do. (Surat Al-A’raf 7:180)

Say, “Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful. Whichever [ Allah name] you call –
to Him belong the best names.” And do not recite [too] loudly in your prayer or [too]
quietly but seek between that an [intermediate] way. (Surah Al-Isra 17:110)

And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.” Indeed, those who disdain My
worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible. (Surah Ghafir 40:60)

Allâh! Lâ ilâhla illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)! To Him belong
the Best Names. (Surat Taha 20:8)

Importance in Hadith

You can read the importance of names of Allah from the hadith which are given below:

Narrated Abu Huraira: Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “Allah has ninety-nine names, i.e.
one-hundred minus one (99 Names of Allah), and whoever knows them will go to
Paradise.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 50:894)

Abu Huraira reported Prophet Muhammad SAW as saying: Verily, there are ninety-nine
names for Allah, i.e. hundred excepting one (99 Names of Allah). He who enumerates them
would get into Paradise. And Hammam has made this addition on the authority of Abu
Huraira who reported it from Prophet Muhammad SAW that he said: “He is Odd (one)
and loves odd number.” (Sahih Muslim 35:6476)
