Chapter 1 What was Paul Revere's early life like?

Could you imagine growing up with 11 siblings? That’s what Paul Revere had to grow up with. He was
born in late December 1734. He was born in Boston’s North End. He was also the second oldest. His birth is
sometimes mistaken as January 1, 1735, which is in fact the date he was baptized. Paul’s father is Apollos
Rivoire; he was a silversmith. Paul’s mother is Deborah Hichborn.

During the ages of 7 - 13, he attended Boston’s North Writing School. This just so happens to be the
best school in Boston at this time. The headmaster at the school gave Paul and boys like him a higher
education. At the age of 13, Revere graduated from school. It was at this time that he was showing key interest
in silversmithing. Apollos started teaching Paul silversmithing, Paul was quickly becoming a master.

Near this time, he got a job at Christ Church as a bell ringer. This is the same church that the lanterns
were placed during his infamous midnight ride. When he was 19 (the year of 1754) his father died. Since his
father had been teaching Paul silversmithing, he took over his father’s shop. He became the family's main
supporter because of this. Lastly, when he was 21, he became a member of the Colonial Artillery Unit as a
second lieutenant. In conclusion, Paul had a strong childhood that would lead almost anyone to be a great
man/woman.

Chapter 2 How did Paul Revere become well known

On the unsuspecting night of April 18th, 1775, Paul Revere would make his famous midnight ride. On
this night, Paul Revere was on the shore with his horse when he noticed two lanterns shining brightly on the
belfry arch of Christ Church. One light would mean attack by land. Two lights would mean attack by sea. After
seeing this, Revere set off on his ride.

At around 10:00 pm, Revere set off on his ride. William Dawes started off near the same time, but he
ended up taking a different route. At around 11:00 pm, Revere arrived at the Cross River. At around 12:00 am,
April nineteenth Paul arrived at Reverend Josiah Clarke's house in Lexington. Also near this time Dr. samuel
Prescott joined in. Paul didn’t say “The British are coming!” everywhere he went. At around 1:00 am, Paul
Revere and two of the men that were riding with him were caught by Redcoat patrol. William Dawes and Dr.
Samuel Prescott escaped, but Revere did not. During this time, Revere was held at gunpoint. He was only
released when the patrol of Redcoats heard Minutemen firing on their approach to Lexington. Dr. Samuel
Prescott would eventually make it to Concord. In conclusion, this was a very hectic night for Paul and his fellow
riders.

I was standing by horse near the shore gazing at the reflective water. In the reflection I could see a
light. “What's that I thought.’’ I turned to see see 2 lanterns shining brightly in the Belfry Arch of Christ Church. I
immediately knew what it meant.

A while earlier I made a plan with one of my friends who worked at the church. If the british were
coming by land he would place one lantern in the tower. If there were 2 it would mean they are coming by sea.
