Indraprastha INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Dwarka
Imagination is more important than knowledge;
Knowledge is limited,
Imagination encircles the world.
Mind like parachute works best when opened!
This is a time of great changes. In education too, we see fast changes with the domains
of education expanding at a staggering speed. The student today is an individual, is a
real person with feelings of self-respect, sensitivity, responsibility and compassion. We
need to recognize, appreciate, applaud and foster the fine blend of sensibilities in a child
and thus this E-Journal is to be viewed as a launch pad for the children’s creative urges
to blossom naturally.
Children should be taught not to toil for the momentary pleasure, rather strive hard for
permanent treasure. Not mere facts and knowledge; children should be motivated to be
the source of knowledge themselves. The edition is to set the budding minds free,
allowing them to roam free in the realm of imagination and experience to create a world
of beauty in words. The initiative also espouses the school spirit which is built up within
the school through the collective actions, thoughts and aspirations of our staff
members. All these, we believe, would spur higher growth and enterprise in the
students. The Journal is a glimpse into our world at INDRAPRASTHA
INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL.
My gratitude to the students and teachers who have been of immense help in breathing
life into these pages.
I want to breathe free….
In the past few days, our city has been called several names- Gas chamber, pollution
capital, and much more. As the air quality dipped to dangerous levels- from very poor to
severe to hazardous, we watched in horror to know that we are in fact, breathing
POISON.
The blame was passed from firecrackers to farmers; from one government to another.
Sadly, the situation stayed the same for over two weeks. Schools were shut down in
view of an Air Emergency- A word I heard for the first time! We got used to breathing
this poison.
Children spent the children’s day this year trapped in the confines of their homes, as
they could not be allowed to be outside in the air.
Is this the earth all are leaving to us children? All the adults teach us to save the earth,
stop pollution, plant trees, but how could they themselves be so irresponsible that we
cannot be sure if there will be an earth to protect when we grow up?
Everybody is passing the blame to each other, but it is not the government or authorities
they are answerable to. The adults of the world are accountable to us children. The
moment we took birth on this earth, we became equal partners of this gift of nature.
What gave you the right to jeopardize our right to breathe?
It took a girl like Greta Thunberg to go all the way to the UN to make the world sit up
and take notice of climate change. Now all us students must take a stand, hold all adults
to their accountability.
We will not accept going to school wearing masks. We will not accept that “air quality
has improved to very poor “I will not leave my country to go to another, just so I can
breathe. We also want to gift our future generation this earth, like we got.
Every effort is a drop in the ocean. Act now, before it gets too late. I say this on behalf
of all the children of this city, of the country and the world…We want to breathe free…

How can schools address to the problem of bullying.
Well, the most frequent and abundant problem faced by school going children
is the problem of bullying. Anyone can fall prey to bullying nowadays. Bullying
refers to any kind of physical or mental harassment. It can be verbal, physical
or psychological. It can range from calling names to spreading rumours or even
extorting money or other treasured possessions. This mainly happens to school-
going kids. The bully actually tries to grab attention of the others in a negative
manner.
He/she tries to prove to the other person that they are superior or more powerful
than them. This starts affecting the victim and they actually start criticizing
themselves and there is no need of a bully to do that anymore. Well nothing
good comes out of bullying, but it can completely ruin a person’s life. It
weakens the victim’s soul and confidence. They actually start doing the
opposite of what they actually used to do earlier. Sometimes the victims even
start harming themselves. They commit suicide just because they think that they
are not worth life. This is all because another person told them so. Children are
not victims because they are weak, but because they allow other people to make
them weak. The bully is happy just because his work is done but he is still not
satisfied. This may cause him to try and bully another child. This may happen
because of many reasons. It might be possible that the bully was himself once
a victim and wants to prove it to everybody that he is not weak; and he is able
to do that by hurting others.
It might also be possible that there is some other problem going on in his family
and he does not want that to affect him. The victims are either afraid or
embarrassed to disclose their problems. They might have been threatened by
someone. It is the parents’, friends’ and teachers’ responsibility that they take
care of the children. We might not be able to tell by their faces what is wrong,
but we can surely tell it from their behaviour. Children start acting very shy and
they become more reticent. They start hiding things from their parents and
think that if they tell their parents about it; they would be chided and afterwards
beaten up by the bullies for telling their parents about them. The children do not
take meals properly. They can’t sleep because they are afraid that the bullies
might come and torture them at night. Well to solve this problem, a lot of steps
have to be taken.
Firstly, children should learn how to tell and share their problems. If any child
sees any wrong happening with the any other child, they should tell any teacher
that they see around them and tell the child’s parents so that they could look
into the problem.
Bullying is more frequent in schools so the schools should also look into this
problem very seriously. They should take strict actions against the bullies. They
should have two or more counsellors in the school that could help the children
to open a bit more than they usually do. Schools should arrange workshops so
that the children learn about the consequences of bullying. They should
especially take care of the students with special needs as they too could land up
being the frequent victims of bullying. Every person has his or her personal
space and nobody has the right to enter that.
Your skin isn’t paper, don’t cut it,
Your face isn’t a mask, don’t hide it,
Your size isn’t a book, don’t judge it,
Your life isn’t a film, don’t end it…….
SAY NO TO BULLYING….

The scourge of corruption
Corruption is a major problem in India. It is like a cancer that is eating away our country.
Not all of us are corrupt, but a good percentage of people take bribe from those who come
to them to get something done. One reason for this is that government employees in most
states are not paid good salaries and wages remain stagnant in public sector companies
for years. As the cost of living increases, people find it hard to make ends meet and resort
to corruption to make extra income.
If one wants to get a driving licence or a ration card or a marriage certificate, most
probably one has to grease someone’s palm in the concerned office with money. There is
corruption in every field of work. Political and electoral institutions are largely
responsible for India being perceived as one of the most corrupt countries in the world.
Corruption in the academic field means that merit is ignored, and mediocrity- exalted.
Corruption reigns over every institution, be it a school, college or an office.
One way to diminish corruption would be to increase pay scales of lower grade
government employees. Tough laws and surveillance are very important for stopping
Corruption as well. Above all, strict punishments need to be meted out to guilty individuals.
Furthermore, there should be an efficient and quick implementation of strict laws. Installing
cameras in workplaces is an excellent way to prevent corruption. Above all, many
individuals would refrain from indulging in corruption due to the fear of being caught who
would have otherwise engaged in corruption.
The government must make sure to keep the inflation low. Due to the rise in prices, many
people feel that their incomes are too low. Consequently, this increases Corruption among
the masses. Businessmen raise prices to sell their stock of goods at higher prices. In addition
to this, the politicians support them due to the benefits they receive.
Also, there should be a policy to reward efficient people and punish corrupt ones.
Increased transparency and vigilance are therefore the need of the hour.

GRATITUDE IS GREAT
Kalam – My Hero!
At times, our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each
of us has a cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within
us. Gratitude is one of the most underestimated ways that anyone can use to enrich their
lives. It is the feeling and attitude of appreciation and thankfulness for the good that we
receive in life. Imagine going through a day where strangers smile at you, greet you, and
people hold the door open for you, and more importantly, you feel that this world is full
of kindness and people are willing to help you without expecting any return. How
would that make your day?
Born on October 15, 1931, Dr. Abdul Kalam has been the greatest inspiration for me
throughout my academic journey. Though he had limited means, he worked very hard
and earned a scholarship at college. He grew up to become the best aerospace scientist
in the country. By doing this, he busted people’s myth that only the rich could afford to
dream.
In spite of being the President of India and a famous scientist, he maintained his
simplicity. He worked tirelessly and took very important decisions. Through his
speeches and talks he made the youth of the country develop a scientific temperament.
His quotes and thoughts are still imbibed in every young heart. His quote: “Don’t fear
for facing failure in the first attempt because even the successful Math starts with ‘zero’
only,” has always boosted my morale whenever there has been any setback in my life.
A few hours before he died, Kalam thanked the security personnel who had to stand all
the way from the airport to IIM in the pilot car!
His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure;
He is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.

The Dark between the Stars
We are strangers,
Strangers in all sense.
Except maybe one,
We look at the same dark between the stars.
We see the same sky.
We see the same fireflies at twilight,
Hear the same songs of oceans near the shore.
We’re after the same rainbow’s end.
Waiting ‘round the bend.
Feeling its colours to the core.
And the expanded clouds against the fiery sunset,
Like a phoenix preparing for flight.
Flying to places beyond,
Far beyond what stars can fathom.
And looking, I feel too.
I feel a connection with looking,
Looking at the very same sky.
We yearn to fly too.
Fly alongside that phoenix,
But it seems the rest of the world is shy.
So let’s fly,
Let us share these moments,
Us- the lost and forgotten,
Finally have something that gives us purpose,
Something we have in common.
And silent we watch and utter not a word,
We are understood as we understand.
We live in a world of silence.
And in the world of silence,
You needn’t speak to be heard

THE ELEVENTH HOUR – Delhi’s Pollution!
• The air quality in Delhi, the capital territory of India, according to a survey of
1650 world cities, it is the worst major city in the world.
• Air pollution in India is estimated to kill about 2.5 million people every year.
• Delhi’s pollution problem is also caused by the factor of animal agriculture, as
smog and other harmful particles are produced by farmers burning their land in
other cities.
• Motor vehicle emissions are one of the causes of poor air quality.
• The Badarpur Thermal Power Station, a coal-fired power plant built in 1973, is
another major source of air pollution in Delhi.
• Heavy metal rich fire crackers.
• In addition, research shows that pollution can lower children’s immune system
and increase the risks of cancer, epilepsy, diabetes etc.
• It has been reported as one of the worst levels of air quality in Delhi since 1999.
• Low visibility has resulted in accidents across the city.
• On 25th November 2017, the supreme court of India banned the sale of fire
crackers in Delhi to alleviate pollution.
• Poor air quality is a cause of reduced lung capacity, headaches, sore throats,
coughs, fatigue, lung cancer and early death.
• India has the world’s highest death rate from chronic respiratory diseases and
asthma.
• The river Yamuna, the reason for Delhi’s existence, has suffered heavily from
pollution.
