I want to take online classes, what are the requirements?

ICM is planning to be primarily in person for the Winter 2023 term. The majority of
the ICM courses will be offered in an in-person format. Therefore, there will be very
few online options available for students. If you have challenges arriving in Winnipeg
before the commencement of the Winter term we strongly encourage you to submit
the Online Interest Form for special permission to enroll in online courses in the
Winter 2023 term.

Due to travel restrictions, I am not able to arrive in Winnipeg
before January 9th. Am I still able to take in-person classes?

No. All students who wish to study in person have to be in Winnipeg before January
9th 2023. Students who are not able to arrive before that date should enroll in online
classes (you can change the class format from in-person to online anytime before
January 15th).

Can I take 5 courses?

If you are a UTPII student who completed the PASS course with a minimum of 900
points you are permitted to take 5 courses. Alternatively, if you have not met those
requirements, students can apply to register in 5 courses by submitting the Course
Overload Request Form on the Student Portal Forms page and submit it prior to the
deadline listed. To qualify for course overload, students must have maintained a
minimum 80% attendance rate in all courses the previous term, along with achieving
a minimum academic requirement in their respective program. For more information
on these requirements, please see section 4.6 of the ICM Student Handbook.

I registered for online classes during my timeslot and now I
want to switch to a different online class but can’t do it. What
should I do?

Please login to your Student Portal to make changes in your timetable.
Students will be able to update their timetable until the registration deadline: January
15th, 2023.

Will ICM be offering both in-person and online courses for
the Winter 2023 term?

Yes. ICM will be offering courses both through online remote delivery and in person.
If you will be in Winnipeg for the Winter 2023 term, you may be eligible to take
some of your courses in person. It is important to note that not all courses will be
offered in an online format.

The course I want to take is already full. Can a student
advisor enroll me in the course?

No. Student advisors are not able to enroll students in courses and do not keep
waiting lists for courses. Courses fill up fast once registration opens, so please enroll
yourself in other courses and keep checking the portal enrolment system to see if a
space becomes available in the course you want. You are able to make changes to
your timetable through the portal until January 15th, 2023. If you cannot enroll in a
required course that you MUST take this term in order to complete your ICM program,
please email [email protected] for assistance. Please note they cannot place
you in courses that do not have seats available.

I registered in my courses on at my registration time, but
when I checked my timetable today, it is empty. What
happened?

You probably forgot to click ‘Finalize Enrolment’ when you registered for your
classes. This means that your enrolment selections would not have been saved. You
may also have missed an error message stating that you do not have sufficient funds
to register in your courses, so carefully check your account details. We will NOT be
able to re-enroll you in the courses you originally selected. Please re-enroll yourself
in classes through the enrolment system on the portal. If you can no longer get into a
required course that you MUST take this term in order to complete your ICM program,
please email [email protected] for assistance. Otherwise, please keep checking
the enrolment system to see if a space opens up in the course you want. You have
until January 8th to make changes to your timetable through the portal enrolment
system.

I can’t register in a course! I am blocked from a course!
I can’t see a course I want in my enrolment!

a. Do you have enough fees in your account for a full-time load?
You will need a minimum of $ 6,431.36 + lab fees for 3 UTP II courses, more for 4 courses or
labs, or $7,862.15 for 3 UTP I courses. If you do not have enough fees in your account,
please email Finance at [email protected].
If you just paid your fees, but the money is not yet showing up in your account, please email
the proof of payment (i.e. wire transfer receipt, etc.) to the Finance Officer:
[email protected]

b. Does the course conflict with another course in your timetable?
If so, please check for availability in other sections of the course. If no other sections are
available, you will need to select another course that does not conflict with your timetable.
Students are not eligible to register in courses if the timings of the course/lab conflict.

c. Are you trying to enroll in MATH 1210, ENG 1430, ENG 1440, ENG 1450, or ENG 1460?
If you are not in UTP II Engineering, you cannot choose MATH 1210, ENG1430, ENG 1440,
ENG 1450, or ENG 1460. You will not be permitted to choose those courses until you are in
the UTP II Engineering program.

d. Do you have a UTP I math condition?
If so, you cannot register in MATH 1500, MATH 1300, STAT 1000 (unless you’ve successfully
passed MTH099 with a B+), CHEM 1100, PHYS 1020, PHYS 1050, COMP 1010, COMP 1012,
or BIOL 1020 (unless you’ve successfully passed BIOL1000 with a C or higher) until the
condition is cleared (minimum C in MTH 103).

e. Are you in your first term at ICM?
If so, please note that students in their first term at ICM cannot take ENGL 1400, ARTS 1110,
COMP1010, COMP1012, PHIL 1290, POLS1502, GMGT 1010, GMGT 2010, GMGT2070,
MKT2210, INTB 2200, or HRIR 2440.

f. Limited Access Registration
This initial registration period will be available to all students who have paid their fees for
the upcoming term. Students are prevented from registering in courses they previously
attempted regardless of the letter grade achieved (including VW grades). Students will only
be eligible to register in courses they have not yet attempted. This registration period will
typically be limited to the first two business days of course enrolment.

I get am getting an error message and cannot enroll in my
courses. What’s wrong?

***Note: Please send us a screen shot of the error message, if possible. This will help us identify
the issue you are facing more quickly.

a. Are you getting an error message when trying to log onto the portal?
• If so, please email [email protected] for assistance.
• If you have forgotten your portal password, please click on the ‘Forgotten your
password?’ link on the portal login screen. (top)

b. Are you getting an error message when trying to enroll in a course or finalize your
enrolment? (Please see ….)
• Do you have enough fees in your account?
• Does the course conflict with another course in your timetable?
• Are you a science student trying to enroll in MATH 1210, ENG1430, ENG 1440, ENG
1450, or ENG 1460?
• Do you have a UTP I math condition?
• Does the course have a lab as a co-requisite?

How can I get my requests answered the first time?

I can’t register in CHEM Example:
1100. Please register me Name:
in this course. ICM Student ID:
Program: I am in UTP II Science.

Email Example: I am not able to register in CHEM 1100. I have not taken this
course before, I have enough money in my account for the course and I have
the two pre-requisites for this course (MTH 103 and CHM 100). When I checked
my conditions, I noticed that I am still blocked from CHEM 1100 despite
passing MTH 103 last term.
Would you be able to amend the condition for me so that I can register myself
in CHEM1100?

Students who have completed 12 years of study in their home
country may be eligible to ‘JUMP’ to UTP Stage II if in a single term

they successfully complete four UTP Stage I classes with a
minimum grade of B (70%) in each course, as well as passing ILS or

ILS102. Additional assessment will be made on a
case-by-case basis.
