'PEACE' STATUE RE-INSTALLED
Public Works / Parks & Trails
New pedestal added for security
City workers with Public Works' Street and
Urban Forestry departments, crews from Parks
& Trails and "Peace" sculpture artist Longhua
Xu all worked together Tuesday to re-install the
public art piece atop a new three-foot pedestal
in front of the Exchange Street Parking Plaza.
The piece was refurbished by Xu, and the
pedestal should protect it from further damage.

Shorter landfill commute
The Solid Waste Department began hauling trash on
October 1 to Republic Landfill located just outside
Bauxite in Saline County. The West Central Arkansas
Planning & Development District agreed to a new
seven-year contract in November of 2018, which
officially started this month. The location of this
landfill is beneficial to the City as the round-trip haul
times are an hour less than to the previous landfill in
Jacksonville. This will save fuel and labor costs.
