HSPD offering child car seat safety checks

The Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD) recently had five of its staff
members receive National Child Passenger Safety Certification. To receive
this certificate, an individual must complete a 3-day/24-hour course, pass
three written exams, complete several car seat installation scenarios and
complete a one-day car seat installation event.

Car Seat Technicians are able to educate the public
on proper car seat safety, such as if car seats are
expired, finding the right car seat, best practices
and any other related concerns.

At this time, individuals can make an
appointment to have car seats checked by calling
the HSPD front desk at 501-321-6789, ext. 6701
or 6702, and ask for a car seat technician. The
appointment takes about 15 to 20 minutes per car
seat. It is requested that when these appointments
take place, that the child designated for each
specific car seat be present for optimal car seat
safety checks.

HSPD hopes to have this initiative in full operation by the end of May, which
will allow these educators to host car seat safety clinics in addition to the
appointments.

Congratulations to Community Service Assistant (CSA) Sarah Jones,
Community Service Assistant (CSA) Rena Spence, Dispatcher Leigh Cobb,
Officer Mikki Yamauchi and Officer James Yerina for this accomplishment.
