4th Annual Shop with
a Hot Springs Cop

A total of 100 youth, selected by area
school counselors, had a brighter
holiday thanks to the 4th Annual
“Shop with a Hot Springs Cop” event

that was held on Sunday, Dec. 11,
at the Walmart on Albert Pike.
The Police Department shared on
their Facebook page: “Our
community stepped up big time
to help make our Shop with a Cop
a success!” Walmart provided the
children with goody bags, cookies
and hot chocolate. The HSPD was

also able to surprise some
adults this year at the
checkout register by paying
part or all of their expenses.

RECENT OFFICER GRADUATES

On Dec. 9, four new
Hot Springs Police
officers graduated
from the Arkansas
Law Enforcement
Training Academy.

Market thanks to the Garland County Master

Gardeners (GCMG), which funded the addition of

10 apple trees and 10 blueberry bushes through the

group’s Coleus Fund, which was set up to benefit the

community through local projects. Not only will the fruit trees

and bushes provide healthy snacks for trail-goers, they will

also be used for pruning demonstrations by City of Hot

Springs Urban Forester Allen Bates and Garland

County Extension Agent Luke Duffle, who

also oversees the GCMG.

RARE CERTIFICATION EARNED
Derek Leaverton ~ Planning & Development / Permits & Inspections

Residential Building Inspector Derek Leaverton,
after studying for 9 months, recently passed the
NABCEP PV System Inspector Certification test to
become one of very few who have this certification
in the state.

The Permits and Inspections Division had more
than 50 solar permits pulled between July 1 – Dec.
31, 2022. Each permit requires six inspections,
and Leaverton is now qualified to do all of these
inspections.

and promote a healthy and safe environment for all

employees and visitors to City facilities through the

involvement of all individuals with regard to education, communication and safe work practices.

This committee is made up of CHS employee volunteers who want to learn about the City's different
departments and help use resources to save lives and reduce injuries in the workplace.
