In what will be the longest 60-inch tunneling project to
date in North America, the machine will tunnel a total of
2,600 feet from the south side of the mountain to an
intake in Lake Ouachita. Up to 23 million gallons of
water a day will be gravity fed 17 miles to a new water
treatment plant.

The micro tunneling machine was custom built in
Germany with tooling based on the rock it will go
through in Blakely Mountain. It was shipped to
Michels’ Wisconsin headquarters, then to a tooling
shop in Canada.

Operation Clean Sweep to begin on July 18

The City’s third Operation Clean Sweep of 2022 is
scheduled for Monday, July 18, through Friday, August
5, to include approximately 404 address points from
Main to Seventh streets, between Albert Pike Road and
the railroad tracks.
Week One: Monday - Friday, July 18-22
Planning & Development’s Neighborhood Services
Division will go door-to-door to distribute information
packets about City services, as well as a notice for
properties identified as violating the City’s property
maintenance ordinance.
