"THE TRAVELER"
Written By: Lois (Dutey) Calhoun

“HIS GRACE CAME AT EASTER."

The traveler was reading in Malachi, which was the last book of the Old Testament. It
ended with God saying He would curse the earth because of the wickedness that would
be happening. After that, it was 400 years since God had spoken to the prophets, and

the folks were starving to hear from God. The traveler looked out at the grey sky and
thought that folks today are starving for the truth, but it is seldom found, because

churches had begun watering down the truth, in order to not hurt folk’s feelings, and
to draw a crowd to their churches. He thought of the needs the folks had back then.
They had the law, but the Jewish leaders demanded folks to do things, they themselves
would not do. The leaders had gotten themselves to a place where they were exalted in
their own minds, and to please God was far from their mind. The traveler looked out
the window and shook his head and said, "Lord, it's the same today. The leaders who
should be telling us to stay away from sin, are now permitting sin to even take place in
the church itself. They have begun reading new versions of the Bible, that leave out the
vital things You command of us, and instead they are leading your people astray." The
traveler knew God's Word tells us things to keep away from, and things we need to be
doing, yet so many of those scriptures are never being preached on. Folks had gotten
to a place where they feel whatever they think is right, is fine to do. "How can folks be
so blind and think they can make up their own rules to go by?" He thought. In his mind
he knew most of them did not really want to know the truth. It was becoming as it was
in that 400 year span where God did not send messages to the prophets. God is still on

the Throne and He is still trying to get preachers to preach the truth without
whitewashing it, but the preachers have become exalted as the Jewish leaders back

in the time of Christ's coming. The leaders then were content in doing things their own
way, and when Christ came and told them they were wrong, they hated Him for it, and
began to try to destroy Him so very often. They wanted nothing to do with Jesus. The
traveler thought: "that's how it is today. Folks want nothing to do with Jesus. They think

they can live in sin, and act, talk and dress like the world and in some way still go to
Heaven, or have all the time later to make things right with God." It saddened the

traveler as he thought on these things.
The traveler looked at his calendar and saw that Easter was just around the corner. A
time folks celebrated, but mostly with chocolate bunnies, and Easter egg hunts, and

such. He wondered how many really thought of what it really was all about. He
thought: "When Christ came to earth, it was to bring in a better way. No longer for
folks to go by the Law, but His grace was about to be shed abroad for anyone willing to
accept His gift on the cross. The traveler knew the Law had to come first, so folks would
know right from wrong, and know they needed to be saved from sin. The offering of
blood of animals only covered their sin for a year, and then they would have to go take
a sacrifice again to sustain them for another year. The traveler smiled to himself and
thought as he looked out at the tall pine tree in the far distance, it had been there
many years, by the size it was, and had weathered the storms. God's Word is the same.
If we go by it, we too can weather the storms. "We don't need to make blood sacrifices
anymore. Christ became our sacrifice on the cross, and if we but accept Him as our
Savior, our sins will be forgiven. He read in Revelations 2: (7) "He that hath an ear, let
him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to
eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. (8)And unto the
angel of the church in Smyrna write; these things saith the first and the last, which was

dead, and is alive;"
The traveler said out loud, "If only we could get folks to see their need for Christ's
blood to wash their sins away, and to realize time will not always last here on this earth.
One day Christ is coming back, and then folks would go to either Heaven or Hell. The
earth will be dissolved, and eternity will begin. The traveler thought of how bad times
were now. Folks being scared not knowing what tomorrow awas going to bring. "If only
they gave their hearts to God, and then use common sense, all would go according to
God's plan. But even in this time it seems folks are forgetting God." He bowed his head
and began praying: " Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you with a heavy heart for my

family. These times are so troubling to all, but I know I can find peace in you Lord.
Sometimes the storm gets raging so, that it scares me, but I know You can calm my
storms, because all these years I have been your child, Father, you have calmed all my
storms. Thank you for that. I know in You is peace and comfort, and I thank You for
always being there when I need You. Please speak to our family's hearts, and let them

see their need for You, and what goodness you have for them, if only they will
surrender their hearts to You. Help us Lord to be a light to others, so they can see You
in us. Thank you for allowing Your Son; Jesus, to come and die for our sins, and we are
so thankful He arose that third day to give us victory in Him, if we but choose Him as

our Savior. Thank you Father for all your blessings on us and our loved ones. These
things we beg in Your precious Son; Jesus' name. Amen."

COMMENT: Easter is a time we need to remember that Christ died for us, so we could
be forgiven of our sins, if we but accept that gift on the cross. I am so thankful He arose

that third day, and is on the right hand of Almighty God on the Throne. Folks God is
real, and the devil is real. It's your choice whom you will serve. Like Joshua said in
Joshua 24:15 "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day

whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other
side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me
and my house, we will serve the LORD."
Folks, so often when we go to YouTube to get a song to go with the articles, I have to
wait upon the Lord, because I know if I wait on Him, He will lead me to the one I need
to add to the articles. Here is the one I am sure that He wanted me to add to this
article. I pray each of you will strive to hear this song. It is such a great comfort, and I
can truly feel God's sweet peace stirring down in my soul when I listen to it. If you
cannot use a computer, find the song someway on your phone, and listen to THE
MCKAMEYS singing "HE CALMS ME." I am so thankful for this group. They have sung

so many songs that was just what I needed to hear when I listened to them. God does
that. He gives us what we need when we need it. Do you belong to Him? Here is the

link to that song:
