On Auction

Boulton & Cooper have an interesting pair of Carlton Ware items in their auction on 10
June. “Lot 23. A pair of Carlton Ware Figures of George VI and Elizabeth on original
bases inscribed ‘Crowned May 1937’. 9 ½ inches (24cms) high overall (damage to globe
and cushion). Estimate £100-£150.”

Carlton Ware produced these figures to commemorate the coronation of George VI in
1937. Our records show that the figure of George was originally modelled on Edward VII
but his abdication threw the industry into panic and remodelling was required!
