On behalf of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club professional team, I would like to officially welcome you to the 2023 golf season. We value your support and contribution to the success of the Club and trust your experiences will continue to exceed your expectations. The following pages will review important information relevant to this year and provide an overview of the golf operation at RTJGC. In April 1991, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. witnessed the opening of what he considered the best golf course he ever built. In the lead up to the official opening, Mr. Jones would famously say, “The first view I got of the property, I got a view of the lake and said, you’ve just got to build a golf course here. Nature has given us such a great piece of land with natural contours. The terrain is esthetically perfect. Every place you stop and look, you get a new thrill. We couldn’t have done anything better anywhere. It will be known forever.” Thirty-two years later, the Club’s mission statement; “to provide and operate a private golf club for the pleasure and benefits of its Members and their guests, and to enhance and promote the game of golf. The Golf Club is intended to be a sanctuary where Members and their guests can pursue one of the finest possible golfing experiences available in the world”, continues to guide everything we do as a professional team and golf club. Our goal is to honor the vision that Mr. Jones had for the club bearing his name, and to uphold and build upon the traditions of the game of golf while executing the Club’s mission. Warm Regards, John Glorioso, PGA Head Golf Professional

As many of you know, this past fall the Club broke ground on the installation of our new state-of-theart irrigation system and course improvement project. The replacement of the irrigation system has been discussed for over a decade, and we are excited to see the benefits of nearly 3,000 individually-controlled sprinkler heads and over 35 miles of newly installed pipe encompassing all 200+ acres of the property. In addition, the highly anticipated course improvements and playability of holes #1 and #3 have been completed. Tee-box complexes on #2, #4, #15, #16 and #18 have been blended into the natural terrain providing better visuals and alignment to the fairways and greens. The professional team is looking forward to the opening of these areas and will continue to update the membership as the irrigation project progresses. With these renovations and improvements, the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) and USGA officials will return to the Club for the first time since 2014 to provide new yardages, ratings, and slope for the course. Once these new numbers are determined, we will introduce our new scorecards for 2023. As a reminder, at the time of this publication, the Club is still under a score posting freeze with regards to rounds played at RTJGC. As soon as the VSGA and USGA have updated our information, we will notify the membership to commence postings immediately. Your Golf Course Weekend Member Game Instruction Program
The Main Range SHORT GAME RANGE Our unparalleled short game facility provides the perfect place to practice bunker, chip or pitch shots. While doing so, we strongly encourage you to replace the divots you have taken. This will help to preserve the integrity of the grass over time. This is also a great habit that translates to doing the same on the golf course. In addition, and to make use of the short game area more convenient, we allow carts to enter the short game range. This will make the use of the short game area easier when conditions permit. When there are no carts allowed on the golf course, there are no carts allowed on the short game area. Also, please remember the short game facility is just what it is called - a place to practice your wedge game around the greens. *Do not hit drivers and other long shots that can be played on the regular range. The maximum distance for the short game range is limited to 60 yards. Guide for Use of the Practice Facilities Robert Trent Jones Golf Club provides its Members and guests one of the finest practice facilities of any golf club in the world. Along with the privilege of being a member of a world class facility comes the obligation to honor and respect our beautiful and meticulously manicured grounds. To ensure that these facilities maintain the highest standard, the Board of Trustees, in conjunction with the superintendent and the professional staff, have provided this guide to the Members on the proper use of the practice facilities. These are not recommendations, but requirements. Please remember, that as Members, we are all responsible for the guests we bring to the Club. There are three practice putting greens for use. One is located at the Driving Range and the other two are located by the first tee. These greens will only be used for putting and not for chip or pitch shots that make ball marks. This will ensure the best quality putting surface and a true roll of the golf ball. In addition to putting, you can also play any shot that does not make a ball mark or a divot that could scar the green or turf. PUTTING GREENS
Please review the divot pattern that is suggested for the driving range as shown in the image to the left. This pattern will allow for maximum turf recovery at the fastest rate. Guide for Use of the Practice Facilities DRIVING RANGE Please remember there are days when the range needs to be clean picked of range balls for maintenance purposes. When the range is closed, scheduled for Monday and Thursday evenings, this includes the Learning Center. Our indoor hitting bays will continue to utilize the Trackman and Full Swing Launch Monitors. For those not familiar with this type of technology, these are radar-based systems that obtain maximum data and provide the most accurate information on your shot performance. If you are interested in learning how to use this equipment, please contact the professional team for an individual demonstration. New for 2023, Titleist ProV1 will be our new practice ball. These balls are for practice only and are to remain on the range or short game facility. Many of you have seen and used our new target greens located to the left side of the main practice facility. This area was created to provide an expanded short game area for all types of wedge shots and is intended only for use from the grass area surrounding those targets. For the safety of your fellow Members and staff who are responsible for maintaining this area, please do not hit full shots from the main range or practice bays to this area. Practice balls will be situated throughout the area for your use. As a reminder, please keep carts off the area, and do not use the sand and seed mix from the carts to fill divots. With this type of grass being different from the golf course, the maintenance team will fill the divots with the proper mix. WEDGE RANGE

While rounds played did not reach the numbers from the previous two years, it was the third highest recorded total in club history at nearly 18,500 rounds. By all indications, growth of the game will continue into 2023, and as such, the professional team will continue to follow and enforce all guest play guidelines as established in the Club’s policies and procedures. These guidelines are considered paramount to the enjoyment of the course by our Members and their guests. Members are requested to provide the shop with their guest names forty-eight hours prior to their scheduled tee times. This detail provides the staff at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club the opportunity to welcome each guest by name and adds to our world-class RTJGC experience. The professional team will send out email reminders to obtain guest names or other Member names within your foursome. As mentioned above, an “X” tells the staff that the tee time is blocked, however, it does not indicate how many players are in the tee time. If you are reserving a spot that includes guests, instead of the “X” please designate “TBA” (found on the guest tab) until you can update with the guest name. This will allow the staff to prepare. The 2023 tournament registration period will open on Thursday, February 23, at 9:00am. At that time, Members will be able to sign up for all events, except the 32nd Anniversary Member-Member, which will have its own registration date of Thursday, April 20. After much discussion between the Golf Committee, the Board of Trustees, and the professional team, it has been determined the Member-Guest Invitational and Member-Member events will change to a lottery for registration. With the popularity of these tournaments at an all-time high, it was concluded that a lottery system was the most equitable and transparent system to provide the membership the opportunity to register for these events. Lottery sign-ups for the Member-Guest Invitational and Member-Member tournaments are as noted below: MEMBER-GUEST INVITATIONAL LOTTERY SIGN-UP February 23 at 9:00am - February 28 at 6:00pm Lottery will be drawn on March 1 at 10:00am *Entries accepted after these dates will be placed at the end of the waitlist.* MEMBER-MEMBER LOTTERY SIGN-UP April 20 at 9:00am - April 26 at 6:00pm Lottery will be drawn on April 27 at 10:00am *Entries accepted after these dates will be placed at the end of the waitlist.* 2022 champions from the Member-Guest Invitational (Nate Guilmain) and Member-Member (Rich Buckner & Andy Heye - Gross Champions and Cleil Albrite & Don Mayer - Net Champions) events are exempt from the lottery process. In addition, as gratitude for their service to the Club, Board of Trustee Members are granted exemptions into the events should they choose to participate. This year, Members will be required to fill in their partners for the Member-Member event to streamline the registration process and assist the professional team with pairing singles who wish to participate. The management team will utilize a random picker lottery program to select this year’s participants and waitlist order for both the Member-Guest Invitational and Member-Member tournament. You will receive separate invitations through Greenvelope with the details for both events, and included in the invitation will be a link to the lottery registration. Once the lottery takes place you will receive a separate confirmation noting whether you made the field or your position on the waitlist. Every tournament entry, cancellation, or waitlist will receive a registration email from the website. Be sure your email inbox settings allow you to receive communications from the RTJGC website. Cancellation Policy The professional staff will send all entrants an email 45 days prior to the event to confirm participation, and the event will be billed in full 30 days prior. Any cancellations less than 30 days out from the event will only be refunded if the spot is filled by another Member. Outside Events Robert Trent Jones Golf Club is available to host outings on select days throughout the year. The combination of a world-class venue, five-star dining, and an exceptional staff will provide your guests with an outing experience that will be truly memorable. The professional team at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club is looking forward to another successful season in 2023. With nearly a hundred seasons of shared experience in our profession, we will continue to provide our Members and guests with the personal attention they have come to expect at the Club. This past year brought some well-deserved accolades to members of our staff. In October, the Association of Golf Merchandisers named Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, under the direction of our Director of Retail Nancy Freitag, a winner of the prestigious AGM Platinum award. This award honors and recognizes the top 100 premier golf shops, including public, private, resort, and off-course golf shops worldwide. The criteria for selection for this award is based on a combination of factors that include visual displays, customer service initiatives, social media initiatives, shop renovations, promotional ideas, merchandising events, innovative use of fixtures or props, retail initiatives, staff training, and growing the game of golf at their facilities. Last year was another record setting year in the professional shop. The shop reached $1.2M in merchandise sales breaking the record of $1M in 2021. These sales figures would not be possible without the continued support of our membership. In our efforts to provide you with the newest styles and trends on and off the course, this year, we will add Vineyard Vines and Lacoste to our staple vendors, Peter Millar, Polo/RLX, Holderness and Bourne, Greyson, Nike, Galvin Green, and G/Fore. As in years past, the professional team is always here to assist you with any of your needs. Robert Trent Jones Golf Club has forged special relationships with many vendors throughout the golf industry and can special order accessories, apparel, clubs, etc. that we may not have in stock or have temporarily sold through. Additionally, we offer the ability to order corporate merchandise branded with your company logo, RTJGC logo, or any charity logo you are affiliated with at competitve pricing. Please inquire with the professional team for more information. In November, our Director of Instruction Mike McGetrick was inducted into the World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame. This honor, which Mike shares with only 28 other instructors, is not only a testament to his ability as a teacher, but also to his lifelong dedication and career in helping golfers of all skill levels, including tour professionals on the PGA, LPGA, and Champions Tour, not only reach their potential but enjoy this “game of a lifetime”. Please join us in congratulating Mike on this incredible achievement the next time you are at the Club. We are fortunate to have Nancy and Mike on our team again this year, along with Gage Tefft who will be returning for his third season as an Assistant Professional. In addition, the team will be adding Chip Zimmerman as our new Lead Assistant Professional . John Reid and Clint Godfrey will join the team as PGA Apprentices. Chip joins our team from Sault St. Marie Country Club in Michigan and is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he grew up in a golfing family. During his youth and collegiate years, Chip played soccer and golf competitively and was elected to NCAA All-American Teams in 1996, for both sports before focusing completely on a golf career. After graduating from Greensboro College in North Carolina, Chip chased his dream of playing on the PGA Tour and twice reached the US Open Sectional qualifier as well as playing in a National Assistants Championship. Chip resides in Lovettsville with his wife April and stepdaughter Makayla who is a senior at Woodgrove High School. He also has two older daughters, Emerson who is a sophomore at the University of Alabama and Ella who is a freshman at Vanderbilt University. John is joining our team from just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. John was raised in the Rocky Mountains as one of six children to Mike and Randolyn Reid. Golf was a big part of John’s family growing up and his love for the game began in his childhood watching his father compete on the PGA Tour. Having the opportunity to be around the game and learn from his dad turned golf into his passion. His high school years were spent in Westminster, Maryland where he took 4th in the state championship and helped his team to multiple county and conference championships. John was highly recruited by Southern Utah University and Utah Tech University where he earned academic honors and received his Bachelor’s degree in Pyschology. During his collegiate career, John played in over 50 collegiate tournament rounds of which 18 were below par. John enjoys spending his time on the course helping those with their game, as well as working on his own. You can find him at the local gym, lake, library, or hiking trail in his free time. Clint was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Growing up he enjoyed hiking, skateboarding, and baseball, but golf was the sport he loved the most. Clint enjoys competing in tournaments and playing golf whenever the opportunity arises. His biggest golf accomplishment to date was setting the course record at a local course in Utah with a (-14) 57. Clint’s progression towards becoming a member of the PGA has seen him take roles at the Promontory Club in Utah, Andalusia Country Club in La Quinta, California and Whisper Rock Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. In his free time, Clint enjoys spending time with his wife Sally and their dogs. They like going on hikes and spending time around lakes while their dogs swim. Chip, John, and Clint are excited to be joining the team at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club and are eager to meet our Members, while bringing their own personal experiences in golf to our club. Have More Fun GOLF PROFESSIONALS Twelve years ago, the PGA of America and the USGA announced a joint initiative encouraging golfers to play from tee boxes that best suited their golf game based on driver distance. The Tee It Forward initiative was inspired by Barney Adams, founder of Adams Golf, who believed many golfers were playing from tees that were too long given how far they hit their drives. The concept and the campaign were well received, and golf editorial support was widespread and even included a television PSA featuring Jack Nicklaus. Recent surveys by the National Golf Foundation (NGF) found 73% of recreational golfers could recall Tee It Forward, but only 30% had moved up over the past 12 years - and most of them were over the age of 50. Certainly not everyone needed to make a leap forward, but the ones who did and followed the Tee It Forward campaign’s advice, almost unanimously enjoyed the benefits. As a matter of fact, more than 80% said they had more fun. At Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, we utilize six different sets of tees during normal play days. These tees range from a forward set at 5,500 yards to a “tipped out” length of 7,500 yards. This variety in distances provides each player the opportunity to enjoy the game from a yardage more suitable to their handicap and abilities. The next time you come out to play, use the Tee It forward guidelines to determine the yardage to play from, and hopefully it will lead to an enjoyable round in a different way. Average Drive Tour Pro 300 yards 275 yards 250 yards 225 yards 200 yards Recommended Course Yardage 7,600+ 7,150 - 7,400 6,700 - 6,900 6,200 - 6,400 5,800 - 6,000 5,200 - 5,400 We have a talented team of golf professionals here at RTJGC. Please know the Board of Trustees has requested that they kindly remind Members and guests of club policies when necessary. Any questions or comments about these rules, or the reminder of these rules should be directed to Matt Freitag, John Glorioso, or any Member of the Board of Trustees. We look forward to seeing you at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club very soon!
Pace of Play The golf experience at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club is a major part of our mystique. Whether it is your first glance at the pristine conditions when you arrive, the staff welcoming you into the Georgian clubhouse, or your views of Lake Manassas while on the course, we all strive to make your time on property second to none. A major aspect of this experience is the length of time it takes to complete a round at RTJGC. Since 2020, the professional team has utilized the TagMarshal GPS system to assist in monitoring pace of play and to identify problem areas on the course. With this system and the professional team’s presence on the course, the average time to play a round of golf in 2022 was approximately 4 hours and 19 minutes. For 2023, we will continue to use TagMarshal to help foster a culture of ready golf while maintaining this part of the RTJGC experience. In addition, the pace of play guidelines (see right) established in our policies and procedures will be enforced throughout the season. As always, the professional team asks that you continue to follow the rules instituted by the USGA and R&A, specifically, Rule 5.6 which addresses pace of play during a round. Rule 5.6 encourages prompt pace of play by recommending: For a player with an established Handicap Index, the maximum score for each hole played is limited to a net double bogey, calculated as follows: PAR OF THE HOLE + 2 STROKES + Any handicap strokes the player receives on that hole = MAXIMUM HOLE SCORE Maximum Hole Score for Handicap Purposes (Net Double-Bogey) START TIME 8:30am & earlier 8:40-10:30am 10:40am-noon after noon SUGGESTED PACE under 4 hours under 4 hr 10 min under 4 hr 20 min under 4 hr 30 min Policy 3.4 Pace of Play Singles and twosomes do not have priority over foursomes. Players should recognize that their pace of play effects others and they should play promptly throughout the round (such as preparing in advance for each stroke and moving promptly between strokes and in going to the next tee). A player should make a stroke in no more than 40 seconds (and usually in less time) after the player is able to play without interference or distraction, and Committees should adopt a pace of play policy (rather than only say they may do so). In addition, rule 6.4 expressly allows playing out of turn in match play by agreement, and for stroke play. This allows and encourages players to play out of turn in a safe and responsible way to save time or for convenience (also known as “ready golf”). PRIORITY: Commonly, there are scenarios in which singles and twosomes reserve tee times at RTJGC. While these groups or individuals are welcome to play, they are not to assume that their smaller group has a right to play at a quicker pace than posted in our policies and procedures. The suggested pace of play standard is as follows:
The Handicap Committee in 2023 will continue its work to ensure the integrity of the handicap indexes of all players competing in club tournament events. The Committee is comprised of the following members: Jim Carlisle (Committee Chairman), Gray Fontenot, Richard Hunt, Ethan Morris, John Whittington, Board of Trustee John Quirk, and Head Golf Professional John Glorioso. Many thanks to Richard Hunt for his years of service as Committee Chairman. To promote transparency and consistency within the handicap review process, in 2022 Robert Trent Jones Golf Club began using a third-party analytical tool, Cap Patrol, to monitor Member handicaps. Cap Patrol automatically reviews GHIN data and tournament performances of every Member of the Club and, in some cases, proposes an index adjustment to better reflect a golfer’s demonstrated playing ability. Adjustments are made in accordance with Rule 7.1a of the USGA’s Rules of Handicapping, which requires notification to the player prior to application and allows an opportunity for appeal, among other provisions. We have received positive feedback from Members on our decision to adopt Cap Patrol and to adjust pursuant to its consistent and objective standards. In addition, Robert Trent Jones Golf Club will continue to apply the following guidelines for club events: • Guests who do not have an established USGA handicap index will compete with a 0 index (“scratch”). It is the host Member’s responsibility to ensure their guests have a valid and verifiable USGA handicap index. • Any Professional who competes on a PGA, LPGA, or Champions affiliated tour, will play to a +4.0 handicap for all RTJGC club events. • Club professionals will play to “0” or the lowest amateur participant’s handicap in the field. Alternatively, if a club professional has a valid GHIN index, he or she may be played at that index, provided it is no higher than scratch. • All club professionals will play to a “0” in the Member-Professional tournament. It is the responsibility of all Members to post their scores after playing a qualifying round. A qualifying round is any round, not played alone (unless accompanied by a caddie who may act as a marker) and in accordance with the World Rules of Golf. The professional staff will post all scores for which a scorecard is prepared by a staff member (e.g., tournaments, Member games). Members are responsible for posting all other qualifying rounds. Consistent score posting is integral to the mission of the Handicap Committee, which monitors for missing postings and is authorized to make index adjustments as necessary. Other score-posting reminders and guidelines: • At present, scores are not being posted at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club because of hole closures and other changes related to the course enhancement projects. Members will be notified when score postings should resume. • Scores are to be posted on the day played. If a score is posted later, it must reflect the actual date of play. • Scores are to be posted using Equitable Stroke Control, which caps a score on a hole at net double bogey (i.e., double bogey plus any handicap strokes to which you are entitled). • Rounds played alone are not to be posted unless accompanied by a caddie who may act as a marker. • A score should be posted any time you play 7 or more holes. Post a 9-hole score if you play at least 7 but less than 14 holes. Post an 18-hole score if you play 14 holes or more. Record a score of net par (i.e., par plus any handicap strokes to which you are entitled) for any unplayed holes. • Peer review is important. Please check your playing partners for posting accuracy. • If you intend to play a practice round (i.e., a round with multiple balls in play or otherwise not played in accordance with the World Rules of Golf), please notify the professional shop in advance. In this case, we will not expect a score to be posted. Handicaps & Cap Patrol
