In these unprecedented times, we regret to inform you that due to the health concerns caused by the COVID-19
pandemic, the Tau Beta Spring Market 2020 has been cancelled. While Tau Beta remains committed to supporting The
Children’s Center through our charitable events, volunteer hours, and financial donations, we believe this to be the most
prudent course of action at this time.

Although this decision was difficult it was made easier knowing that the fundraising appeals for this year’s Spring Market
have been record-setting. Because of the extreme generosity of our members and our corporate donors we will be able to
continue with our significant donation to The Children’s Center.

My gratitude goes out to the efforts of our amazing Spring Market Committee, led by Chairs Sharon Wacker and Patty
French, who have worked tirelessly for months to put this event together. We will continue to promote our 24 unique
vendors on our website and through our social media platforms and look forward to seeing all of them in person next year.

Thanks to our wonderful raffle donors, we will be able to go ahead with our Spring Market raffle. Prizes are spectacular
this year—please check them out in your invitation. The drawing will be held Thursday evening April 23rd. You may
purchase tickets on the website or by returning your response card.

TURKEY DRIVE

Thank you to everyone for your generous donations. Dinner
for 100 families were distributed. We appreciate all the food
and monetary donations from all who participated.

HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVE AND SHOP

Chairs: Susie Cooper and Patty Ilitch
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Holiday Gift Drive and Shop. The Children's
Center raised over $38,000, with the boutique serving 534 families and 1484 children. The
families expressed such gratitude when they realized they would have Christmas gifts for their
children. Be sure to get involved with the event in 2020, it is very rewarding.

Tau Beta Recognition Grant
Application

Goal: To provide Tau Beta members an opportunity to nominate and award funds to worthwhile
charitable organizations committed to improving lives in the greater Detroit area.

Grant Guidelines:
• Any Tau Beta member in good standing may submit a Grant Application for a charitable
organization of their choosing. Please do not notify the organization of their nomination.
• Grants shall only be awarded to organizations who have achieved 501(c)3 tax status and who
have been in existence for a minimum of two years.
• An organization may only receive a Recognition Grant once in a 3-year period.
• Recognition Grants shall not exceed $5,000.00.
• In order to maximize the impact of a Recognition Grant, smaller organizations may be given
preference. Alternatively, a particular project within a large organization will be strongly
considered.

Grant Process:
• Application deadline: October 1
• The Recognition Grant Committee shall review the Applications and make recommendations
to the Tau Beta Board.
• Tau Beta Recognition Grants shall be announced at the January Annual Meeting.
• The number of Recognition Grants awarded shall be determined by the number of Applications
received and the funds available, as vetted by the Recognition Grant Committee and the Tau
Beta Board.
• Recognition Grants will be funded from no more than 50% of the income earned from the Tau
Beta Endowment Fund as determined on December 31 of the previous year combined with
funds raised by Tau Beta that the Board may designate to the Recognition Grants program.
• Tau Beta Recognition Grants will not impact our annual contribution to The Children’s Center.

Editor’s Note

Thank you to all of the contributors! A special thank you to Anne Baxter. Members should have received the 2019
Annual Report in the mail early February. Last year it was decided to switch to this new format producing an Annual
Report as opposed to listing donors and contributors in the Black & White. Anne put this together and did a
fantastic job! As a reminder, if you are chairing a committee, please send Anne your lists of correctly spelled names
