The magazine we were reading was "Mulan," which is based
on a popular film worldwide that focuses on a few
management skills and action.

The majority of readers will be attracted to the restrictive
gender norms and societal expectations that our heroine is
subjected to at all times until she begins destroying them one
by one.

Mulan is a strong and independent woman who stands in
opposition to the traditions and rules of her kingdom, and she
stays the hero of her narrative by striking her own way.

Mulan deserves high ratings on both the storyline and
technical fronts and is proficient enough to rank among
Disney Animation's best successes. Mulan is a masterpiece
that is well worth your time and money, and it comes highly
recommended.

THE SYNOPSIS

Mulan is a legendary female heroine, the daughter of a
renowned soldier who is troubled by her community's
expectations of a graceful woman. When the Hun
invaders demanded that the kingdom raise a male army,
Mulan escaped dressed as a man to beg and save her
elderly father from being forced to the front lines of battle.
Mulan, who hides her gender among her new soldier
mates, provides a little levity throughout the narrative.
Mushu aims to guard and encourage.

Mulan at the same time. Mushu also strives to repair his
soiled reputation among the deceased Fa family
guardians. Mulan was weaker than her other troops, but
she worked hard and managed to rise to become a
valued member person of her squad, headed by Captain
Li Shang.

Captain Li Shang fell in love with her, and Mulan
appeared to share his feelings. After Mulan defeats the
Huns with her clever strategy, Shang discovers that he's
not even a man and removes her from the squad. Mulan
finds that the Huns are still alive before leaving the

saved the kingdom and lived happily ever after.

EXPLAINATION ABOUT THE SCENE

Mulan decided to take her father's place to fight in the
war. Mulan challenges the traditions and culture of the
Chinese society in order to protect her father. Mulan is
aware that disguising as a man and entering the army
could have lethal consequences. She could have been
discovered and killed, or she could die in battle. But
Mulan keeps training until she is strong enough to scale
the post, and her determination comes from her desire to
prove herself to be as able as the other men.

During the war, Mulan’s decision of shooting the cannon
towards the top of the mountain was one of the most
admirable acts. she makes the decision in a matter of
seconds, and she act quickly and in front of Huns.

WHAT IS MOTIVATION?

direct the behavior is known as motivation (Petri, 1981). Motivation can inspire,
encourage and stimulate individuals or teams to achieve goals and objectives. It can
affect all aspects of the results and the success factors for all members of the teams.
This concept is not designated by the project manager to a team member, instead
motivation is internal to each team member and derived from a team member’s desire
to achieve a goal or work toward expectations (Peterson, 2007).

EXPLANATION ABOUT THE SCENE

When Mulan decides to go to war instead of
her father, she decides to do it while sitting on
the foot of the Great Stone Dragon. She is
seeing her parents inside the house, seeing
how they love each other and how she loves
them. And it was the motivation she needed to
make that decision. So, Mulan takes her
father’s scroll when her father was sleeping.

goal. It is based on foresight, the fundamental capacity for mental time travel. It involves
the use of logic and imagination to visualize not only a desired result but the steps
necessary to achieve that result. In project management, project planning is the most
important because it will help the team to set out their plan and vision based on their
technical expertise to achieve the project goals. The project manager will coordinate the
overall plan based on the team’s plan in every aspect to achieve the goals such as
financial control, building design and site management.

In Mulan (1998) movie, one of the characters in the movie, Captain Li Shang plans the
training course for his soldiers for the future. He trains their discipline and self-control
as well as their technical skill such as combat skills and accuracy, which is essential to
survive the war. The song “Make a Man Out of You” is the perfect description of his
desired goals for his men. He makes them “tranquil as a forest, but on fire within”, he
helps them “find their center” so that they are “swift as a coursing river, with all the
strength of a great typhoon, with all the strength of a raging fire and mysterious as the

In this chapter, we will discuss about Li Shang in this scene. For the information,
Captain Li Shang is promoted to be a captain in the Chinese Army. He may be young, but
with his physical strength, discipline, and self-control, he is very proficient in his job as a
captain. According to Leadership in Cinema (n.d), he represents the best quality of
Chinese Army and can be seen in “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” sequence. It shows
Shang’s physical abilities and how he’s being active in the training. In the training, he
demonstrates the level of strength, agility and weapon mastery and expecting his men
to have the same quality as him. For example, he demonstrates the wooden poles drills,
runs through the mountain together with his men and help Mulan, the heroine to
master hand-in-hand combat. It makes him not only physically strength, but also able to
emotionally handle a leadership position in the military.
Secondly, Captain Li Shang’s determination can be seen in this scene. We can see how

accomplishments, such as retrieving the arrow
and racing with the pails of water, enable her to
believe in herself more. Mulan's self-confidence
helps her as a leader since she believes she can
do what she sets out to do.

Shang
Shang is promoted to a captain in the Chinese army in this movie, and the "I'll

powerful as well as emotionally capable of handling a military command post.
Shang's dedication is evident as he whips and forms his troops into genuine
