Welcome to our 2017 workshop programme.
The workshops will be available to book via
our website, by telephone and in person from 10am
on Thursday 20th October 2016.
Each year we try to select a range of exciting
workshops to cover various abilities and types of
beading and I hope that you find something that
appeals to your creative side!
All of the tutors work extremely hard to bring you unique and inspiring
designs. In our online brochure we can only show you a small picture to give
you a flavour of the design but if you click on the picture on the website
booking page you can view a larger image. If you do have a question about
a specific workshop please don’t hesitate to email and we will do our best to
answer your query. We also aim to have the tutors’ sample pieces on display
at the Studio ahead of the workshop date so you can see the designs for real.
This year we welcome to the Studio for the first time our new international
tutors; Nancy Cain from USA, Anna Lindell from Sweden and Kinga Nichols
from USA.

Extras”. Here you will find information for additional workshops that we run
throughout the year including ‘technique classes’.

Workshop Fees
All full day adult classes run from 10.00am – 4.00pm (unless otherwise
stated) and cost £36.00 per person excluding materials (unless otherwise
stated). All workshop fees are payable at time of booking.
Tea, coffee, fruit teas and squash will be available to help yourself throughout
the day and you are welcome to bring a packed lunch.
Please see our cancellation details below for our refund policy.
Cancellation
Should you need to cancel your place for any reason, up to 2 months prior to
the workshop date, then an amount of 50% of the fee will be refunded to you.
Any cancellations made after this point will incur a forfeit of the full fee paid.
Should we manage to re-sell your place then a full refund will be given.
We reserve the right to cancel a workshop up to two weeks prior to the event
if there are insufficient numbers. Should the workshop have to be cancelled
we will refund your fee in full. We regret that refunds cannot be given in any
other circumstances and course fees or deposits are not transferable.
Bookings
You may secure your place by telephone, online via the website or in person.
A requirements list will be sent to you approximately 4 weeks prior to the
workshop date.
By placing a booking for a workshop you are deemed to have read and agreed the
above terms.
Group Visits
If you are a member of a beading group or have a group of friends that are beaders
why not have a relaxing day out at our Studio. The workshop area is available for you
to use, at no charge, to sit and relax and enjoy light refreshments. Please note there
is a maximum seating area of 12 people and you would need to telephone the Studio
prior to your visit to check availability.
Private Workshops
We are also able to offer private workshops for groups of between five and twelve
students for a private workshop with Lynn Firth. There will be a workshop fee
chargable for this based on the numbers attending. Please telephone the Studio on
01747 830666 to discuss your workshop requirements.
Batty Beaders Beading Group
The Batty’s meet normally on the third Tuesday of each month. They are a
‘self help’ beading group who enjoy each others company whilst they sit and
bead and have been meeting now for over twelve years. If you are interested
in finding out more about this group please email Mary Gray at philip.

Getting to the Studio
The Stitchncraft Studio is situated approximately 2 miles to the north of Shaftesbury on the
A350 Shaftesbury to Warminster Road. The A350 links to the A303 just 4 miles to the north.
Off the A350 follow the sign for Semley and Wardour Castle. The Stitchncraft Studio is
approximately ½ mile on the left hand side on the brow of a hill set back off the road.
You can also get to the Studio easily by train and then a taxi ride from nearby Tisbury
railway station. Tisbury is on the main railway line from London Waterloo.

Introduction to Beadwork for Beginners
Would you like to learn to bead but really don’t know where to
start or what the difference is between a seed bead and a Delica
bead? Come along to this informative yet practical workshop and
learn the basics of beadwork that will give you the confidence to
embark on your own beaded projects.

Byzantine Wave Necklace - Gary Taylor
A stylish piece of chainmaille jewellery which is complimented
by the SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS drops. Gary will show you how
to create the undulating waves which gives this piece of jewellery
a unique look. There will be a small charge payable to Gary on
the day for the jump rings used in class which should not exceed
£5.00. Experience of working with pliers an advantage.

Mermaid Scissors Keeper - Angela Massey
Use four classic bead embroidery stitches to make this luscious
mermaid scissors case as a one-of-a-kind gift or beautiful addi-
tion to your own beading or sewing basket. If you prefer not to
use a face it can be substituted with an equivalent sized cabo-
chon, button, or other element. Students must be proficient in
even count peyote stitch bezels for Rivolis, as no tutorial for
this part of the project will be provided

Scarf Ring - Sarah Payne
Add a little bling to your scarf with this sculptured scarf ring.
This is both practical and decorative. Choose your colours to
co-ordinate with your favourite scarf then add crystal for the
bling that every lady loves.

Oculi - Heather Kingsely-Heath
Oculi is a richly textured set of bezelled dome beads with
intersecting panels. These two elements are linked together, to
create an ornate statement. Oculi is worked using a variety of
beads including sizes 15 and 11 seed beads, Czech pinch beads
and 14mm dome beads. Students can choose to make a bangle or a
more closely fitting bracelet.
Suitable for all students who have mastered basic thread tension.

Anita Bracelet - Justine Gage
This delicate classy bracelet has a secret! It was inspired by
fabulous Indian jewels, with pearls and rich vibrant colours. You
will learn a new way of capturing a SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS
Rivoli. It also has an invisible clasp. And the secret? It is
reversible! Surprise your friends with a quick flip, and get two
looks for the price of one!

Nuts & Bolts - Heather Collin (taught by Lynn Firth)
Nuts and Bolts is the combination of three different patterns that
make up this rather delightful and very tactile pendant. Make
more than one to suit your wardrobe and seasons. This project
uses prismatic right angle weave, right angle weave and peyote
stitch. Students must be familiar with RAW and peyote stitch.
Suitable for intermediate and advanced beaders.

7-Cord Braiding on the Kumihimo Disk - Pru McCrae
This workshop introduces the highly versatile 7 cord braid.
Strictly speaking it is not kumihimo because its origins are not
Japanese, but it is made on the kumihimo disk and it is a great
addition to your braiding skills. The workshop is suitable for
complete beginners because it is a simple braid structure, but it
is also suitable for more experienced braiders, who are looking
to expand their repertoire of braids.

Bow Belle - Shona Bevan
A second chance to sign up for Shona’s beautiful and popular Bow
Belle. Stretch your Right Angle Weave skills with this statement
bracelet that puts a stunning oval stone at the centre of a bow that
will never come undone. Capture the stone with a unique bezel
then use variations of RAW to frame it with curved crystal wings.

Cogs in Time - Chloe Menage
Use CRAW and 2-hole CzechMate Triangle beads to create rings
that you’ll embellish with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystals and
fire-polished beads. In this workshop we’ll stitch spiky rings of
different sizes and join them together for a steampunk-inspired
necklace. The design possibilities for these components are endless!

Bead Embroidery for Beginners - Lynn Firth
Learn how to use a focal Geode cabochon, SWARVOVSKI
ELEMENTS cupchain, pearls and Miyuki seed beads to create
wearable pendants and brooches using different bead embroidery
techniques. You will learn how to prepare the fabric, how to place
your design on the beading foundation and add Ultra Suede
with a beaded edge to create a neat finish. Some basic beading
knowledge desirable but not essential.

Bumble Bee - Heather Kingsley-Heath
The bumble bee is a little three dimensional beaded treasure
and one of Heather’s most popular workshops. It is worked in a
combination of stitches and a mix of bead sizes. The translucent
wings sparkle with a scattering of tiny 2mm crystals. This
workshop includes a beaded felt flower for the bumble bee to call
home. Students must be confident with thread tension.

Elica Necklace - Jean Power
Turn sparkling SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Rivolis into intricate
pendants with a matching SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystal or
pearl chain. The pendants are beaded using Miyuki size 15 seed
beads. Students must be comfortable working with CRAW
(cubic right angle weave) and small beads.

Jewelled Links - Annette Bolton
Little raised jewelled squares make up this lovely bracelet. The
squares are linked together and then they are highly decorated
and embellished with fire polished beads and SWAROVSKI
ELEMENTS crystals. You can experiment by using a variety of
colours, or obtain a sophisticated look by beading the bracelet in
one colour, the choice is yours.

Bubble Hubble - Melanie de Miguel
Students will learn how to use the Bubble Hubble technique and
develop it by manipulating both the orientation of the squares
and the bead colours within the stitches. As this is a technique
workshop, students can expect to make a number of samples
throughout the day. Students must have previous working
knowledge of Hubble Stitch.

Tulip Blossom Necklace - Sabrina Rawlins
Tulip Blossom is a fun and dainty necklace to bead. Learn how
to make these lovely blossoms with Tulip beads and make a
necklace chain for them to sit on in size 15º seed beads whilst
mastering right angle weave (RAW).
Suitable for all beaders with some experience of beadwork.

Borgia Pendant Series - Shona Bevan
Borgia is a series of three double-sided pendants made with
beautiful teardrop shaped pearls and embellished with crystal
bicones. The workshop will cover the techniques to create each
pendant, as well as how to make a beautiful elegant rope to
suspend them from. Bead the rope with all seed beads for a simple
look or incorporate crystals for some easy to wear glamour.
Suitable for beaders with experience of right-angle weave.

Introduction to CRAW - Siân Nolan
Everything you ever wanted to know about Cubic right angle
weave (CRAW), but were too afraid to ask! If you have been too
scared to try this versatile stitch, here is a great opportunity to
give it a go. It’s sure to become a firm favourite in your stitch
library! As well as learning the stitch Siân will show you some
simple, but stunning, design ideas. Students must have a
working knowledge of right angle weave.

Conquering Bead Crochet - Gillian Lamb
Have you always wanted to crochet those lovely beaded ropes or
perhaps take the technique a little further? Come and learn Gillian’s
unique “guaranteed to work” way to crochet with beads and for
those who would like to try out something new another interesting
method of bead crochet. Suitable for all levels from total beginners
to those who have some experience.

Beaded Egg - Sarah Payne
Follow in the footsteps of Fabergé with this pretty beaded egg and
create a stunning centre piece or an Easter present for someone
to treasure or even keep for yourself. Use your own colour
combinations to make your special egg unique and why not add
some SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS for that extra sparkle. Working
knowledge of peyote stitch essential.

This stylish pendant with beaded cube beads converts into a
dice game with collapsible cup. Students will learn to bezel a
druzy bead, build perfectly fitting beaded cylinders and create
dice made of beads. Previous experience with peyote stitch is
recommended for this project.

Kabedoscope - Laura Andrews
Escape to the bliss of mandalas in motion with this necklace that
is also a functioning kaleidoscope. The focus will be on beading a
sturdy cylinder of beads to house the kaleidoscope parts. Next we
will move on to the joy of embellishing and enhancing. Previous
experience with peyote stitch is helpful.

Pearl Kisses Bangle - Lynn Firth
This lovely bangle is created with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS
pearls, Miyuki seed beads and Czech MiniDuo beads. The beads
form delicate pearl ‘kisses’ on the outside edge of the bangle.
Have fun mixing and matching different colour ways with this
cheeky design. Students should have a working knowledge of
right angle weave.

Hilzingen - Heather Kingsley-Heath
For beaders who want a quick and easy way to create a flexible
cuff to show off many of the pretty new accent beads. The base
is worked in size 8 seed beads. The detail is worked in size 15
and 11 seed beads with a choice of accent beads. This design is
slightly stretchy and made more so with the use of Sono beading
thread. Students must be confident with thread tension and
basic right angle weave.

Flower Net - Gary Taylor
Learn how to create delicate, pretty, free flowing flower shapes 13
from wire which are joined together to produce a tactile lacy effect
necklace or bracelet. Use simple wire working techniques to create
an eye catching delicate piece of jewellery. No experience of wire
work necessary. There will be a small charge payable to Gary on
the day for the jump rings used in class which should not exceed

Samara Cuff - Justine Gage
This cuff was inspired by the way light filters through Moroccan
carved wooden screens and it looks more lovely when held up to
the light! With an invisible fastening, this eye catching bracelet
can be made with any number of rows and columns to suit your
style. As an additional bonus the base unit can also be made into
a variety of beaded beads.

Embellished Prumihimo Braided Bracelet - Pru McCrae
This bracelet is braided on the Prumihimo disk and then
embellished with beadwork. The workshop is perfect for those
who have enjoyed beaded kumihimo on the regular disk and
would like to develop their skills and learn how to create their
own designs. Prior experience of regular Kumihimo essential.

Flowers in the Snow - Siân Nolan
New pastel SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Rivoli’s and Czech etched
lentils give this pretty flower necklace a frosty appearance like
spring blooms just breaking through the snow. Right angle weave
is used throughout this project and the flowers are made with
various sizes of fire polished beads. Students must be proficient
in RAW for this project.

Friday 5th May
Pentocular - Jen Kent
A fun pendant created using SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS pearls
and Miyuki drop beads to net two Polaris beads in place. Hung
on a simple chain of CRAW. A working knowledge of CRAW
(cubic right angle weave) is useful but not essential.
Suitable for intermediate beaders.

Revolution Necklace -Shona Bevan
Create a revolution with this striking v-shaped necklace that
combines Czech SuperDuos and SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS.
Three different circular components unite to showcase the beauty
of the SuperDuos and contrast them against the sparkle of a set
of three Swarovsk Rivolis.
Suitable for intermediate and advanced beaders.

Slinky Bracelet - Sallyann Dunn
Based on St Petersburg stitch, with some adaptations, this
Slinky Bracelet forms a very fluid tactile material. The bracelet
is fastened with snap fasteners that are hidden when wearing so
they won’t be seen. Beaded with Miyuki seed beads and a bit of
sparkle with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS bicones.

Sea Flower - Nancy Cain
Learn a new technique Nancy developed called Pinch-in-the-Ditch
which has multiple uses and applications. It is related to stitch-in-
the-ditch but with a new twist. Create structural shapes around
three 14mm Swarovski Rivoli stones with seed beads and circular
peyote stitch. The central Rivoli is double encased whilst the rope
is tubular peyote with gentle undulations. Students need to be
proficient in peyote stitch.

Couture Cuff - Nancy Cain
Couture Cuff is a beautifully sophisticated statement piece hand
crafted in structural peyote. The structure of the cuff’s channel is
stitched with an inventive technique that Nancy developed called
Pinch-in-the-Ditch. The reward of taking time to hand craft
the Couture Cuff is a magnificent display of beads and crystals,
so comfortable to wear and beautiful to behold on the wrist.
Students need to be proficient in odd count peyote stitch.

Fusion - Nancy Cain
This watch style piece is built from two separate components
which are engineered in Peyote stitch and built in stages allowing
the underside to have a fun peek-a-boo of embellishment. It is
created from the outside-in and the inside-out alternately using
the working and tail threads. You can make a bangle bracelet just
using the square Puffy Links or a ring of just the centre component.
Students must be confident in peyote stitch.

Bobbin Bracelet - Nancy Cain
Bobbin Bracelet is a big, comfortable and classy reversible
bracelet. Seven rivoli components on each side wrapped with
6mm SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS pearls and are connected with
Swarovski bicone crystals. Make one side subtle and the other
side a party! Students need a working knowledge of peyote stitch.

Guinevere Cuff - Heather Collin (taught by Lynn Firth)
A beautiful textured Medieval Cuff, stitched in Cubic Right
Angle Weave. The Matte Metallic beads enhance the knobbly
texture of the beaded beads and the double closure at the back
holds it securely in place. A wonderful pattern to add to your
collection and the beaded beads within the structure are quick,
fun and interesting to bead. Students should have a working
knowledge of CRAW.

Lotus Flower Necklace - Sabrina Rawlins
This lovely design teaches you how to bezel around two sizes of
SWAROVSKI ELEMENT Rivolis with Czech Tulip beads. The
Lotus flowers sit delicately on a CRAW (cubic right angle weave)
chain. This statement necklace can be made in many colour
combinations to compliment your outfits.

Little Tiny Beaded Beads - Justine Gage
Use seed beads to make three types of hollow, self-supporting,
geometric beaded beads. Once mastered they can be embellished
with various shaped beads to make them larger and more
interesting. Make them to match a project you are working on
or simply string as a bracelet or necklace! Students need to be
comfortable working three dimensionally and in RAW.

Rondo - Gary Taylor
Rondo combines two different chainmaille weaves to form necklaces
and bracelets that look super complicated. This clever piece of
jewellery using two different sizes of jump rings which also lends
itself to being decorated with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystals
and beads. There will be a small charge payable to Gary on the day
for the jump rings used in class which should not exceed £5.00.

Bead Embroidery Pendant - Angela Massey
This pretty little pendant is made using an image that’s been pre-
printed on cotton lawn which is then backed, layered, and beaded
to create all kinds of different looks. Once you’ve learnt how to
make the pendant you can apply the same technique to larger
projects to create book covers, beautifully embellished images for
wedding albums, family photos, and many other creative projects.

Make a Wish! (Needle Case) - Siân Nolan
Who doesn’t need a magic wishing wand from time to time?
The magic wand (which can be made in two different lengths)
is made using a mix of advanced peyote and netting stitches,
topped off with a sparkling SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Star
Pendant, embellished with glittering Loch Rosen, jingly bells
and a special glass bubble containing magic fairy dust (3 wishes
maximum). A secret wish can be written and hidden inside the
wand. Note: This is not a toy.

Celtic Knot Bracelet - Sarah Payne
This stunning statement bracelet is made using Miyuki Delica
beads and uses 3 dimensional structure to frame the traditional
pattern on the base putting a modern twist on a contemporary
style. Explode circular peyote outwards to make arches and
embellish with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS bicones. The workshop
will concentrate on the technique used to ‘explode’ the peyote.
Students must be confident with peyote stitch.

Garland - Sabine Lippert
The Garland bracelet is rather sturdy like a cuff. It is based on
a zig zag rope, beaded in Chenille stitch, which is covered with
pretty blossoms and arcs.

Signora - Sabine Lippert
Signora is a beautiful necklace which is beaded mixing many
different beading techniques including peyote, right angle weave,
cubic right angle weave and Chenille stitch. The workshop
instructions include not only the lovely necklace but also a
matching bracelet to complete the look!

Night and Day - Sabine Lippert £66.00
Night and day is a convertible necklace which can be worn either
long or, if you prefer, short. The textural spheres glisten with
SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS chatons whilst the beaded Chenille
stitch rope has a little bit of “spike” with the addition of Rizo beads.

The Charming necklace is beaded with a cocktail of techniques.
These include right angle weave, cubic right angle weave and
Hubble Stitch. This lovely tactile necklace has chains of beaded
spheres which cleverly hang from a central component.

Tetra Star - Jean Power

Inside Out Kumihimo Bracelet - Pru McRae
An alternative method of adding beads to kumihimo which
captures the beads on the inside of the braid rather than
positioning them on the outside. They are clustered to form a
beaded bead effect and a reliable method of achieving regular
spacing will be explained. An excellent ending method is used where
the fastening is braided into the design, avoiding the need for glue.
Students must have prior experience of beaded kumihimo.

This Fabergé Imperial egg inspired pendant is created by

Taking its motif from the classic heraldic emblem of England,
this necklace is comprised of five 3-dimensional rose elements
linked together with circular beaded components. The roses

stitches are prerequisite for this workshop.

Modern Medieval Bracelet - Laura McCabe
This unique dimensional bracelet fuses modern and medieval
jewellery aesthetics. The intricately beaded domed structures

stitching is used to incorporate right angle weave, peyote stitch
and herringbone stitching all into a single element. Proficiency

Inspired by a painting where a lady was wearing a chain around
her waist and from it hung a pomander. The Isabella Vessel
combines three stitches: right angle weave, peyote and the
wonderful new Hubble stitch. The vessel opens to hold a treasure
of your choice. Participants must be familiar with right angle
weave and peyote stitch. There will be homework prior to this class.

Deco Revival Necklace - Maggie Meister
The necklace was inspired by an architectural feature
found in many Art Deco buildings. Participants will learn to
capture a coin-shaped bead in a circular peyote bezel. Each
component is made by building off of the focal coin with brick
stitch using three colours. The chain is made with Double St.
Petersburg stitch using tiny square beads. Participants should be
familiar with peyote and brick stitch.

Chain for Lady Blanche - Maggie Meister
This beautiful and delicate chain was inspired by a book from
the Museum of London about the Cheapside Hoard which was
discovered by workmen in 1912. In the workshop, participants
will learn to make components using a variation of Huichol
Stitch (a type of netting), Cubic Right Angle Weave, and Peyote.
Participants should be familiar with peyote and CRAW.

seed beads. The square shapes in the bracelet are recurring in
Anna’s necklace “Bastet”, dedicated to the Egyptian cat Goddess
and stitched for the Battle of the Beadsmith 2015.

beads, pearls and crystals. Students must be confident with

Jointed Father Christmas - Sarah Payne
This Father Christmas is worked in shaped peyote with
embellishment adding detail. Using techniques adapted from
traditional toy making, this Santa has jointed elbows and knees
allowing him to be posed to suit your personal Christmas
display. He stands about 7.5cm tall in his black boots. Of course
you can make him in green for a very traditional Santa.

Dress Up Dolls - Siân Nolan
Dress up a metal doll armature with clothes made in right angle
weave and accessorise with metal charms. Your doll can be worn
as a pendant, used as a bag charm or ornament. Doll measures
approx 9cm tall. Students must have previous experience of
RAW. Payment to the tutor on the day for the metal doll/
charms (not more than £6).

Iskra Box - Jean Power
Learn how to use geometric beading techniques to create a
striking vessel that stands on its own beaded feet. The lid has
a large crystal centrepiece and further crystal highlights are

variations to make unique piece of beadwork. Students must be
familiar with peyote stitch.

This pretty flutterby is inspired by art nouveau enamel jewellery.
You’ll use 2-drop brick stitch, peyote and embellishment

different sizes, perfect for hair combs, pendants, earrings or
more! In the class we’ll work on a smaller butterfly that will be

Go further into the realms of Hubble stitch on a great beading
adventure to explore the next exciting technique called Wave
Hubble. This produces gorgeous, lacy beadwork with exciting
patterns and a wonderful silky, tactile quality; learn how to use
the technique to create beautiful, flexible ropes both vertically
and horizontally. These can then be morphed into rigid, toroid
forms, to be used as toggle clasps and methods for bezelling
rivolis! Students must have working knowledge of Hubble Stitch.

A Christmas Tree decoration that can be worn as a pendant.

little Christmas Ornaments. They measure only 6cm. Students
must be comfortable with peyote stitch.

A mixed media combination of padded silk textile construction
encased with detailed beadwork of repeating motifs.
Samarkand pendant is worked in a combination of stitches and

can be supplied on the day by Heather for £7.00 per pack.
