overall Reflection
I believe that the microteaching class is a perfect way for me and other future educators to learn
the fundamentals of teaching. It is a teacher-training course that gives teachers the chance to
hone their teaching abilities by enhancing a variety of clear and concise tasks referred to as
teaching skills.
I've learned the fundamentals of microteaching in this course, including presentation and
reinforcement techniques that will enable me and the other future educators to practise teaching
as much as possible and with ease. This class provides me with the opportunity to practise my
teaching skills with my familiar classmates and receive immediate feedback from them after each
session, which I can apply in the next round of teaching. Due to the ability to get quick feedback
following each practise session, microteaching class effectively reduces the difficulties of real
teaching.
In addition, by observing how my classmates deliver their lessons in class, I have picked up additional
knowledge and fresh ideas. Because this class allows us to use a trial-and-error method, having the
opportunity to practise my teaching and watch my classmates do the same helps me with self-
training.
Moreover, this class assists me in developing the skills necessary for a teacher to deliver effective
lessons. In this class, I learned many fundamental teaching skills such as attention-getting skills,
questioning skills, communication skills, stimulus variation, demonstration skills, reinforcement skills,
and many others.
Furthermore, my confidence improved as a result of my microteaching course. Since microteaching
requires frequent presentations, it aids me in overcoming any fears or insecurities I may have. As a
result, I am more confident in delivering the lectures. The microteaching class creates a simulated
environment in which future teachers can practise, learn, and improve their abilities. Therefore, it
creates the ideal learning environment where we can improve our abilities and self-confidence.

This was our first day of Madam Nirmala's Microteaching
class. On our first day, we began by becoming acquainted with
the course and what we would be learning in general.
The S.O.W. and assessment briefing were the first things we
went over in class. Madam informed us of the assignments and
projects that we will be covering through out the semester so
we would be aware of it and be prepared.
Madam Nirmala also reviewed our class rules and expectations of us as her students. Furthermore,
she relates how she informed us of the class rules to how we should do the same once we are
teachers in order to set boundaries for our future students. We also went over the DSKP briefly
as Madam Nirmala gave us advice for our internship.
Friday, 9th September 2022
We went over the first chapter in the second class of the
first week. We learned the distinction between teaching and
microteaching as we progressed through the first chapter. For
example, we learned that teaching is a traditional way of
learning for students, whereas microteaching is a mini lesson
done by students who will soon become teachers.
Madam Nirmala then explained the KBSM and KSSM, as well
as the CEFR for English. The changes that occurred within
these syllabuses were also discussed with us.
We were also shown a sample lesson plan as well as the DSKP. Madam Nirmala demonstrated how
much time should be spent on each section of the lesson plan and how to achieve the lesson
objectives. To conclude the day's lesson, Madam asked us what we knew about educational
philosophy and went on to explain it once she had heard our answers.
Wednesday, 14th September 2022
Madam Nirmala decided to thoroughly review the lesson plan
construction on this day. She showed us how to fill out each
section of the lesson plan, such as the Learning Objectives,
Differentiation Strategies, and so on.
Madam Nirmala went on to explain how to use the DSKP in a
lesson plan. We were taught how to select the appropriate
content and learning standard for our lesson, particularly for
our main and complementary skills.

Since we were nearing to our first mock-teaching, Madam
Nirmala began teaching us on set induction, which is our third
topic. Set induction is the pre-lesson in our lesson plan. A pre-
lesson is considered as important for teachers to execute as it
is the introduction to the topic we would be teaching.
Relating to set induction, Madam Nirmala also taught us
attention getting methods. In order to hold students' attention
in class, attention-getting techniques should be used as soon as
the teacher enters the room.
Morever, Madam Nirmala also gave us tips for effective set induction. The tips that were given by
Madam was to keep our set induction short and sweet, keep it fun and meaningful.

In this class, Madam Nirmala began her lecture on Topic 7
which is Teaching Aid. Madam listed down three types of
teaching aids that we could use in our class/mock-teaching.
The three teaching aids are visual aid, audio aid and audio visual
aid. We were then given the task by madam to list down as
many teaching aid we can for a virtual classroom.
The reason we were taught Topic & right away was due to us
getting nearer to our first mock-teaching presentation. Madam
wanted to make sure we were equipped with the knowledge we
need in order to prepare ourselves with our first mock-
teaching presentation.
Wednesday, 12th October 2022
In this class, we began the fourth topic, which is Stimulus
Variation. Madam Nirmala explained on ways to enhance
students' engagement in class such as our intonation, adding a
mysterious element of surprise, using realia items that could
engage with students, short games and quizzes, calling
students' names to answer questions, use gestures and more.
Madam Nirmala also shared with us five factors that can help
us to get students' attention, such as intensity, contrast,
movements, audio-visual aids and teacher's personal behaviour.
To conclude the lesson, Madam Nirmala gave a short activity for us which was an impromptu
presentation with classmates where random students where selected by Madam to present at the
front of the class with no preparation. This activity helps us to be quick on how to engage with our
students and also how we could get their attention with our intonation and body movements.

On this day, it was finally my turn to present my first
mock-teaching which is set induction. The topic that I have
decided to focus on is Special Relationship and the
grammar focus is adjectives. Since my topic is on Special
Relationship, I have decided to bring a cat along with me
for my attention getting.
The feedback that I have gotten from my classmates and
Madam herself was that I had a good voice projection.
They also stated that the use of cat as my attention
getting was a brilliant idea. I was also complimented by
Madam on my attire as it was "proper". Madam also
stated that I had a smooth transition into the topic and I
moved and used all the space in the class to interact with
the students.
Wednesday, 2nd November 2022
Madam Nirmala began teaching us Topic 5 which is
Questioning Techniques. She introduced us skills for us to use
to question our students in class in order to engage with the
students. We also discussed the characteristics of a good
question that teachers could ask such as unambiguous, properly
directed, comprehensive, thought provoking and more. Madam
then went on and relate Bloom's Taxanomy with the questions
techniques.
Madam then taught us on how to handle students' responses which consist of three types; when
students answer the question, when students ask a question and when students don't respond. We
were also given tips by Madam that we should not wait for students to answer our questions and
instead, give them hints.

Fatin, Qaisara and I presented our Task A: Educational Game
on this day. We came up with a game called Musical Time
Bomb. The students who are effected by the time bomb will be
the one to play the educational game by choosing one of the
three levels we provided. Each of the levels have different
marks that they would get. The game we created covers the
topic Time to Spare and the activities that we have added in
our educational game had all the four required skills such as
speaking, listening, writing and reading activities.
The feedback that we have gotten from Madam was that she
liked how we covered all the four skills in the educational game.
We also got a few advice where Madam told us to use a velcro
tape for the name of the activities so it would be easy to
reuse the educational game board with other topics and
questions.
Friday, 11th November 2022
On this day, class was conducted online. During the online class,
Madam had requested for us to present our second mock-
teaching presentation video, which is While Lesson, that we
have recorded prior the class. Since there were many of us, I
did not manage to present my mock-teaching video on that
day. Despite that, I have learned a lot from watching my
classmates' videos. I had made sure to watch their pre-
recorded mock-teaching video where I would then listen to
Madam's feedback so I could apply those feedbacks to myself.
I managed to learn a lot from the feedbacks that were given
to my classmates and made sure to take note of it.
Wednesday, 16th November 2022
Today's class was held in a lecture theatre for the first hour
of the lesson and was then continued in Zoom due to clashing
of venue with other classes.
Topic 8 was discussed in today's class, which is Closure in a
Lesson. Madam explained how we should be wrapping up our
lesson and that we need to put as much effort in to closure
activities just as the rest. Madam then went on and explain
the importance of a closure in a lesson and that is to ensure
students understood what was being taught to them. Closure is
also important to make sure the learning outcome that we
have stated during our pre-lesson is achieved by our students.
Friday, 25th November 2022
For today's class, Madam Nirmala briefed us on Task B:
Educational Website. Madam explained what needed to be done
in order to accomplish Task B.
Madam gave us a few example of website that we could use
for our Educational Website such as Wix app, Tumblr and
more.
Today's class was cut short as Madam needed to attend a
meeting.
Friday, 11th November 2022
We entered a new topic which was Topic 9: Use of
Whiteboard in Classroom. We were taught a few whiteboard
strategies as we go through the topic.
Once Madam had explained the topic to us, she gave us a white
mahjong paper for us to tape it on the wall in exchange of
whiteboard. Madam then asked us to write on the "whiteboard"
and focused on our handwriting as in whether it was readable
and visible to the students.
Each of us took turns to write on the mahjong paper pasted
on the wall and have recieved feedback from Madam on our
handwriting and whiteboard skills.
Wednesday, 7th December
Fatin, Qaisara and I presented on our Task B; Educational Blog.
The three of us have decided to use Tumblr as our website.
Each of us have created two activity surrounding the topic
Time to Spare. We used various types of teaching aid to
create our activities such as Canva, Youtube, Padlet and many
more.
The feedback Madam gave us was positive. She stated that our
Educational Website was easy and the design of our Tumblr
was simple, straight forward and had no unnecessary design to
distract the students from their lesson.
Madam had also commented that our activity covered all the
four skills she asked and that we have used different teaching
aids to keep the students engage.
Friday, 9th December 2022
Today's class was conducted online and Madam had decided to
view the pre-recorded second mock-teaching video that have
yet to present their video.
I presented the video to Madam and my classmates and have
recieved positive and also useful feedbacks for myself. I was
told that I was engaging with my students and that I was also
enthusiastic. They also mentioned how I kept my students on
their toes as I kept asking them questions and also gave them
feedback right away. But I was also advised that I needed
more activity to keep the students more engaged and that I
needed more probing questions
Wednesday, 14th December 2022
Today's class was also conducted online. Since we have finished with all
the chapters, Madam Nirmala recapitulate the topics that we have
learned.
She also explained regarding our Portfolio that we were told to do at
the beginning of the semester. Madam went through in details of
what is needed to be added in our portfolio and showed us some of
the examples of previous students and their portfolio to give us an
idea of how our portfolio should be.
Friday, 16th December 2022
Since I did not manage to present my last mock-teaching
presentation video before the submission of this portfolio, I did
not have the chance to get feedback from Madam Nirmala
and share it here However, I did manage to ask my classmates
to watch my pre-recorded video and gave me feedback so I
could share it in my portfolio.
I was told that my voice projection was loud enough to hear in
the video. My classmates also mentioned that I kept on
engaging with my students and gave them immediate
feedbacks after they have managed to answer my questions. I
was also complimented on my activity and was told that it was
a creative way to end the lesson and that giving them
homework online through Google Classroom was also a good
idea.
That is all
Thank you :)
