Overview
LCD Panel Type and Backlighting Solutions
LCD screens are typically based on the panel type and backlighting solutions. There
are three different panel type solutions available in the market: Twisted Nematic (TN),
In Plane Switching (IPS) and Vertical Alignment (VA). These options of panel types
provide different features, such as viewing angles, colour reproduction, response time
and contrast
TN Panels are the most established and are still the most popular technology as they
provide the shortest response times, offer high brightness, use less power and are
inexpensive to manufacture. Despite these advantages, it should be noted that colour
shift occurs at wider viewing angles and there is also a grey inversion effect when
viewing the picture from above or from the sides.
In comparison IPS Panels have noticeably improved colour reproduction and viewing
angles. The drawback is their difficulty to emphasise blacks, which in turn leads to
problems with the contrast. IPS Panels are also expensive and have not yet been
widely adopted by the market.
VA Panels, which are the panel types used in E-Motive® multimedia and picture LCD
products, combine the advantages of both TN and IPS. This solution offers good
viewing angles, improved blacks and excellent contrast.

Dot Matrix
Dot Matrix
E-Motive® offers a wide range of dot matrix display formats for both horizontal and vertical
mounting. These products display arrows, floor position and programmed messages and are
available in both standard and slim profiles. The E-Motive dot matrix displays are often used for
surface-mount installation, making them an ideal solution for modernisation applications. Standard
diameter dot sizes are 1.8mm, 3mm and 5mm and the dots are red in colour.
The long format dot matrix display is an LED digital signage system designed for semi-outdoor
applications such as sports stadiums and train stations. With its large size (up to 1500mm) and high
brightness, this product is clearly visible from afar, making it ideal for high-profile installations. Along
with the ability to show static or scrolling text messages, the long format dot matrix display is also
able to interface to hall lanterns and gongs, indicating the direction of travel of an elevator.

current floor and direction of travel. The system is quick and easy to install,
involving mounting a sensor on the elevator and placing a magnet at each
floor. As the sensor passes the magnet, it increases or decreases the floor
number depending on the direction of travel
Key Features
+ S tand-alone from controller board: no reliance on protocol compatibility
+ Indicates floor level and direction of travel
+ Q uick and easy to install
+ W orks for all elevator applications up to 8m per second and covers up to
32 floors
+ Low maintenance
+ T he sensor can be configured to output the floor setting in binary, Gray
code, or sequential output.
